Since you're a veteran pirate (still remember when you tried to gank my first cruiser with your raven, quite a years ago), let me ask you this: Was piracy more fun and potentially profitable when it was mostly in the belts, or when it's almost exclusively at the gate, like now? ------------------------------------------

Care to elaborate on that part? I suspect you have no idea what you're really talking about here and are just a being a sycophant.

Edited by: Kamorius on 08/06/2008 21:32:24 Edited by: Kamorius on 08/06/2008 21:32:11 Tank can I suggest trying to get some RL friends into the game? That always ups the fun factor, especially watching them fumble around in noob ships, shooting stations.
If not I could suggest:
1) Starting a corp (maybe even a noob corp, help people get into the game - can be lots of fun. I know a guy that did this when he ran out of motivation and he stayed in the game because of it).
2) Starting a new character. Sometimes a clean slate is great, though for someone with your reputation and experience, this may not work.
3) Try FW and wait for Ambulation
4) Get into an active corp, involved with wars etc
5) Set a long skill training and take a well deserved break. The urge to play will come back in time!
Those are just some random ideas Tank, I hope you find something that keeps you in Eve.

I think at the root of the problem is the fact that EVE has grown large and new game features cater to team play, player organization.
The role of individual player has been marginalized. A single player has very few chances of achieving anything worthwhile. It's all about the corporations now. Tank CEO is one of those people who prefers to stay on small scale, work with just a few people or solo. That's no longer viable. Can't become rich and famous this way. A single player will get defeated consantly.
EVE is no longer a game of "I am" but rather "We are"

Tank,
I do hope that you don't leave EvE - especially if this post are your parting words. It's not really the way I would envisage someone with a reputation such as yourself to be leaving the game.
I remember you from M3G4 back in '03, chasing my Thorax - although your name, even back then was legendary. However, a fanboy I am not.
You have achievments in this game, a reputation - although your post reeks of self-praise... and at the same time inability to comprehend and adapt to how the game has changed. I mean you no disrespect - I DO respect what you've done - like I said - I'm no fanboy either.
Buying a ship as a pirate can indeed be a pain in the rear end - making money when you go through a dry spell can be hell... but then - it always was. Nothing's changed in that respect.
Seems like you've riden the wave of the good times and thrown all the isk away for a good time. That's your right, your choice. That said, every serious pirate has to learn to realise sooner or later though - that supply and contingency are the only real friends you have. Buying one or two ships and then having nothing more in stock beyond that is rarely a good idea. If you bulk buy and transport them somewhere close to your base, at least you have a stockpile.
You do this every so often, getting new ships is not so much of a chore.
Mind you, you seem to have a problem making isk to actually buy them - tough for a lonewolf but there are ways of making isk - just seems that you can't be bothered to do them.
That's a shame, but if you don't have the patience for those ways - then all I can say is that maybe the current incarnation of EvE isn't the game for you. (And YES, that does actually sound like a weird thing to say to Tank CEO.)
GL with whatever you do anyway - the game has been richer with your reputation. 07

I know all about the video, and all about the kill etc etc. I want to know what you meant with your line about 'mining in a cruiser epic lolfails.'
Please explain what that actually means and why that bit is funny or fails.

Making ISK is easy.
Really, it is. 21983634348 carebears can do it, so it can't be that hard. Everyone can get rich in EVE without having to be creative and without ever talking to or interacting with other players. Everyone has the same opportunities to get rich. Compared to real life, EVE is Utopia. EVE is a happy, fluffy, fluffy lala land where nobody is poor, nobody has to struggle, nobody has to fight others, nobody is forced to be a criminal.
Of course, running missions and mining gets boring over time, that's why we all like to shoot each other for a change, and some of us like to pretend we are pirates because pirates are way cooler than carebears. Pirating is not a means to make profit, it is a sport for the rich people (i.e. everyone).
This is the big picture I got after 1 year of playing EVE. If EVE was different in your days, then you know what has changed and what is wrong with the game today.

If pirating is dead, pirates killed it.
CCP helped some by changing probing out mission runners to a task that didn't require any skill, but the basic problem is the same. Too many pirates and not enough prey. Combine that with the kill mail junkies who don't even try to make a profit and you have low-sec today - an area with a reputation that prevents people from even giving it a chance.
It's a reputation that doesn't match the reality of the situation, but that's another post.
I am hopeful that factional warfare will change the situation. The last few attempts to get people into low sec were complete flops, but I think this war has potential. You still won't have foolhardy transport pilots trying to sneak full loads of Zydrine through, but I suspect that there will be plenty of opportunities for an alert predator to rip off a pound of flesh.

Yep, thought so. You're a muppet.
Mining in a cruiser isn't an auto "fail." It wasn't even that he was mining in a cruiser that was funny about the video or the kill.
I suggest you go back and watch it again, have a look at frigates and cruisers and try to work out why they might have mining bonuses, think about skill trees/paths and relative costs/training time and work out why someone might want to mine in low-sec in a cruiser.
I hate the phrase, however i'll use it especially for you. You fail.

You need to lower your threashold a bit. you know know how to make isk, but that isn't the factor, you need to find something else that makes it fun for you again. Pirate in a cruiser. You know I've been playing since Aug 2003 and i've never had anymore than 400mill in my wallet. But that doesn't bother me, because there are still fun things i like to do.

1. Train a few corp skills
2. Have a few friends join the new corp you just made
3. Set taxrate = 15%-20%
4. Grow corp into bigger corp, and be VERY ACTIVE leading things.
5. Use corp wallet as your own.
Problem solved.
Bottom line, stop being a loner.

Before sentries - at a gate. After Sentries where at every gate - Asteriod belts. But that was long ago. Now ASteriod belts are empty, everyone is doing agent missions in deadspace, its not worth finding them in deadspace. Its back to gates.
Im just speaking out as a 5 year vet. Piracy was a profession for me. Thats how I made isk. Piracy is no more tbh, at least not like it used to be. The risk is to much for reward. I wish i could fly frigates and actually pirate but you cant because of sentries guns.
Lets just end this, I just wanted to speak my mind to get it out, maybe some one would post a solution.
I am rich, I have 4b in isk and 6b in assets. Maybe its the GTC's that costs me 800m a month is whats getting me down, but ill get all that back when I sell my alt character of isk.. I am in a corp, wont leave it because I feel weird when I Do.
I havent played in 6 months, only to sign in to train skills. I have been on the break, sadly, if FW doesn't bring anything more interesting, which I hope it will, I will continue to hybernate in my station with my +5 implants.

If it was a exploit, why wasn't I banned? And a hotfix was released, but I Still did them. The only thing the hotfix did was fix the npc that spawned every few hours thtat droped the certificate to hand into the general to redo the missions, which I rarely got to kill. I found another way, found noobs that had standings, came to talk to the agent, and paid for the certificate for 50m.

All in all, I just spoke my mind. Im a person who wants to keep eve alive inside me but after 5 years, you get bored. Simple fact. Im just reaching out to find new ideas or new things to do to make eve more fun for me.
You can flame me or I ask if you give me ideas on what to do. I have a goal but it requires to much leadership from me which RL prevents me from giving the time to do so.
