A cute wittle fanboy with an associate's degree in computer science. Currently working on my 4 year. What do you have that qualifies you to rank the feasibillity of anything server related?
Anyways do you always make fun of people when you can't think of a half decent counter-argument?
/sigh/ (again)
Normally I would ignore self-important nerds like you, but just to make the point: It is hardly an argument to simply say "don't go to Jita", even if it is a sensible point. But if your are say a trader, your are completely dependent on actually going in and out of there - especially since everything in this game can't be planned several days ahead. And the argument equates to saying "Here's a brand new car that I would like you to pay for, but you can't use in on sundays. Why? Because it just doesn't work on sundays, that's why!" How many days before that car manufacturer went out of business? Not many! In any other type of business, this would be unacceptable, but here it seems to work just fine, simply because there is no better alternative (and don't mention WoW!)
People like you are the reason noting ever gets improved, because people like you just eat it up and accept it - even if it is clearly sub-standard. Now go back to your computer simulations... Maybe you can work out the lieklihood of you getting my stuff? (Go on - give it your best go. You know you want to!). Lolz.
Anyway - last post. I am clearly wasting my time(That was an invite to throw another clever comment in my general direction). Try to think of one...

Should i make the program in C++ or VB?
Anyways you don't seem to get it. If it was as simple as you said then someone else would make a better version, everyone would go there, and EVE would be in the hole right now. The fact that there isn't a better alternative is proof that nobody can do better. CCP did an amazing job to get this far. That's why we play eve and not the Better-then-eve you suggest. _______________

I think a more accurate analogy would be
"Here's a brand new car that I would like you to pay for, but on Sundays the traffic around here is dreadful so you might want to arrange for a different pickup date. But if you don't mind going 15 MPH on the freeway that's your call."
CCP has improved the situation in Jita several times while I've been playing Eve - every time it happens, like clockwork, more people pile into Jita until it lags again. People give annoyed answers to whines about Jita on the forums because everyone knows Jita is going to lag on Sunday and everyone also knows someone who just got the memo is going to come on the forums and complain about it.
In all honesty though I'm hoping factional warfare moves some of the trade out of Jita to the regional hubs. As long as people can make one system into the big trade hub for the entire game it'll happen. The traffic's not always backed up for miles and miles, you know.

I sometimes wonder if the Jita-QQ guys actually had thought logically about their problem. I mean, why DOES jita lag so much? because you all rush in their like lemmings to do something that can be done anywhere else in the region.

And the official CCP response: "we are working with IBM on a super computer", is now after 2 years frankly looking more like an insult than a joke. If you have been "working" (as in putting man hours every day into developing this "super computer", why isn't there some sort of progress report - after two years?? Come one.....! CCP's reputation for disrespect towards it's player base is bad enough as it is(How are you, t20?). Surely there's no need to add outright mocking to the list....!?
Just come clean and admit that you are unable to solve anything, and that this super computer is in fact NOT something that any player should expect to see in his or her life time. Just tell it like it is - for a change...
i quote this because it's true, not enough that CCP is not able to handle their own servers, they even have one of the worst QA's i ever see in the software industrie, remember the deleted boot.ini - Bug of the last major upgrade.

Its my opinion that its pointless to go and needlessly insult and taunt the staff of this game. I also feel that if you don't like the way the game handles, then you should go elsewhere.
That being said, to say Eve is on cutting edge hardware and performs as well as could be expected is just incorrect. Its written in Python (which is something you choose for lower cost of development than performance) and the amount of traffic is not significantly larger than other systems face. This is a cost choice, not a technical limitation. I don't begrudge them their right to operate as a profit making business though. At the end of the day if you don't like it you can always find something else to do.

Well don't forget that eve was made over 5 years ago and originally had only a few thousand accounts early in it's creation. I mean EVE started budget, there's no doubt about that. I mean short of rewriting EVE from the ground up and hoping that you don't leave anything importaint out, which will happen, there's really not much they can do about how they originally coded it.
I mean it would be a huge task to rewrite EVE from the ground up on what they've slowly built up over 5 years. Not to mention keeping up on the new changes. Other then that they really are cutting edge as far as they can go. _______________

I get in and out of Jita fine, at all times. You just have to lower your game settings, turn blink off for local chat, remove the character display column, run in 16-bit at 1280x1024. Also when you dock at 4-4 don't have the guests tab displayed. And make sure 'LOD' is turned on, and log chat to file is turned off :). - Selling GTC's since January 07 - |

It's all well and good to say 'don't go to Jita' but try buying faction somewhere other than Jita. It's not terribly difficult to avoid going during primetime on sat/sun, if you absolutely have to go you take your life in your own hands.
That being said Jita is crapload better than it used to be even at it's worst these days.

well maybe if you whiney fools STOPPED going to jita to buy everything JITA wouldnt be so Frakin laggy. Jita is just like every other system in EVE as far as CCP's stand point. The cause of the lag is thanks to the player base, not CCP's "incompetence".
Even IF ccp is working on some uber server o doom, you whiney nubcakes are just going to swarm to jita in even greater numbers which is going to guess what...cause lag.
The more people shop in the likes of jita the fewer sales are made outside of jita. When that happens the sellers/manufactures are going to guess what? They are going to head to jita to sell their products because thats where, guess what? Thats where everyone shops.
So if the player base were to...i dont know..stfu about jita lag that they are causing for themselves and other whiners about jita and bought stuff locally they would see the market broaden in their normal area. Why? Because those that sell 10jumps from the nearest trade hub are going to see isk flowing in. WHen they see that they are going to want to expand on what they are selling to include additional items. Additional items helps reduce the "need" to head to jita and other hubs. This reduced "need" to go on a shopping spree at jita reduces the lag IN jita. It reduces the lag for you especially because you never have to even set foot in jita to get what you need and those that whine about jita will be doing the same thing.
its the player base that give jita this strangle hold on the market. Its this strangle hold of the market that forces everyone and their mother to go and sell there. Because everyone sells there everyone has to buy there. because everyone has to buy there everyone gets lagged. because everyone gets lagged everyone has to see and hear everyone whining about jita. because everyone causes this lag and doesn't accept their share of the blame we have to hear accusations against ccp. accusations that ccp has failed because the player base hasn't the brains to realize that they are in fact the problem. They are the problem because ccp never blessed jita as the official trade capital of the eve universe.
So thanks for being an ingrate and an ignorant whiner to a company that actually gives a crap about thier game but cannot out upgrade the stupidity of the vast majority of their customer base, fast enough. Thanks for making merchants outside of jita go broke and thanks for all the mimtard babies that will starve to death this month because of the lack of revenue in places outside of jita. GG and GTFO and Good day!

And yet somehow you are still playing this horrid game, right right ? c/d ? Really in all honesty, like many people have pointed out in the first place, CCP have been making a effort, I am not 1 to judge the level of that effort but a few things come to mind here:
1. If your not happy with it, LEAVE, nobody is holding a damb gun to your head. 2. If you cannot do better yourself, the stfu ! really ! 3. Don't like what I said? I could care less.

Jita ... lagged
Yep, every Sunday.
And yes, it's absolutely due to incompetence: if you're experiencing lag in Jita on Sunday it's an open- and- shut case of operator error. That error being the one you made by going to Jita on Sunday.

Actually I'm simply wondering why they don't treat the jita system as a instance and devote a single dedicated server to it.
The answer really is just don't go there, Ourserlat (I misspelled it, but whatever) is actually just about as cheap (believe me, I checked). The only difference is the number of contracts available.
Either way, I would be interested why CCP hasn't made a dedicated server (or is there one and we're causing it to smoke and spark?) Signatures are annoying...kinda like me. |

You said the I word! *pokes with sharp stick*
Anyway Jita already runs on its own node, so barring any software optimizations that's as good as it gets until (if) CCP makes it so one system can run on multiple servers.
Personally I'm still hoping FW encourages people to move out to regional hubs. I do all my trading in Oursalert myself, I only go to Jita for contracts and faction crap, which is very rarely.

Neither is it sensible to expect that if you're paying $15 a month for a virtual game you're sharing with 200K+ other people that it is going to be always problem free, completely playable, up and running for you at any given time you decide to log on.
Originally by: Declan Intaki But if your are say a trader, your are completely dependent on actually going in and out of there - especially since everything in this game can't be planned several days ahead.
Eh? You need to re-read descriptions on all the trade skills available in game. If you're trading in 4-4 station with the regular buy order / sell order methods there is absolutely no reason for you to personally fly there ever. Originally by: Declan Intaki And the argument equates to saying "Here's a brand new car that I would like you to pay for, but you can't use in on sundays. Why? Well may be when you start giving as much money to MMO developers as you're giving to the automobile industry this would make a sensible comparison.

"GTFOOJ" is the stock answer, but the OP deserves something more, I see.
So, this. Get the **** out of EVE. If you can't understand what Jita is, what people are like, and/or how computer equipment and connections to servers far away work, you need to hand in your "life" licence now, since you are obviously one of the many people who deserves to win a Darwin Award, yet somehow manage to avoid it each year.
You fail. At life. Hard. You know what some people do when things like Jita are busy? THEY DO OTHER THINGS. Like go outside, or talk to people, or play other games. You have a number of things to do which is nearly infinite, in that it lacks options involving Jita. Cry harder.
And before you whine about how "I pay for it, I should use it" think about 0.0 space. Try telling the locals you pay a sub, so they shouldn't shoot you when you mine in their space. High-sec doesn't mean every ****** and degenerate can pile in without ill effects.
