I don't know if this has been suggested before, but has CCP ever considered releasing a single-player version of this game (and marketing it)?

Freelancer, a EVE mod for Homeworld 2, X series, Darkstar One, EEEEeeeeeee!
Also look up Jumpgate Evolution. This might be good competition with EVE. __________________________________________________

The same thing that happens after you climbed all the guilds in Oblivion. You played it through.
(Although here i could think of a few alternatives than just your suggested CNR. Such as gaining sovereignty of substantial portions of the cluster against established NPC alliances.)

Thank you all for the other game suggestions. I hail from Homeworld, though.
(also that wasn't exactly the point of my posting) But thanks nonetheless.

This looks interesting. I didn't know that someone was already developing something like that.

Sins, the X-series and many other relatively new titles spring to mind.
I dont think EVE would lend itself well to singleplayer as it was back when it was first designed. In many ways, the whole design went against all other mmorpg's out on the market. One server, relatively huge death penalty, brutal player interaction and visually stunning scenery.
Since 2003, a lot has happened. In some eyes eve has turned into a single player game. A lot of players simply dont interact with other players beyond beying their stuff and chatting. Some even seem to think the game nees to create an even safer place for them to play.
EVE is a sandbox littered with landmines, the majority of which are placed by other players. Keep this in mind when you are boored playing Sins or X3:r (I enjoy both, but go to eve for 10-times more fun).
And yes, there IS a market for a singleplayer version of EVE. Perhaps using the superior 3dengine and some storytelling elements, CCP can create a game worthy of the space-genre.

For look and control style, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident is very close.
Its pretty linear, but the plot isnt bad and the combat is intricate and bloody gorgeous (nukes actually LOOK like you would expect them to, and blind you ^^)

If Jumpgate has any sense, they'll make it so it is the reverse of EVE - to pick up everyone who quit EVE. ____________________________________ Caldari by birth, Minmatar by citizenship.
