Today I saw a dream realised, and a nightmare come to pass.
Today has seen the liberation of the Starkmanir, an event that so recently seemed impossible. Our lost kin have beenb brought home and all Matari can rejoice in this.
Rumours fly between the stars and spread amongst the people like wildfire, hope has spread its wings and taken flight. The broadcasts speak of Insorum and of the return of the Elders... I do not know yet what to truly believe but I am struck dumb by the ramifications of it!
And yet, and yet I am filled with a great loss. I play to you know the source of my sorrow.
Quote: Defiant holding action buys critical time
Only minutes ago with the Elder-led taskforce in full retreat, camera drones on scene in the system fed live footage as elements of the fleet pulled away from the task force and positioned themselves around the stargate while the rest of the taskforce continued its rapid retreat.
Led by ships with the markings of the rebel Minmatar faction known as the Defiants, the holding force immediately began to engage the lead elements of the pursuing Imperial fleet as they arrived through the Stargate in force.
As the Defiant forces began to engage in a bitter close-range firefight, cynosural fields flared, marking the entrance of a Hel Mothership to the field flanked by dual Carrier escorts. Footage was briefly suspended as the electromagnetic resonance from the fields interfered with the camera drones.
When the stream was re-established less than a minute, the screen was filled with the startling images of one Nidhoggur carrier slowly breaking in half under the fire of countless laser beams as fast moving attack ships swirled around it in brutal firefights with their Imperial counterparts. The chaotic pictures were set against the backdrop of multiple Imperial cynosural fields opening, swiftly followed by the arrival of an entire Capital squadron including two Aeon-class Motherships.
With even more cynosural fields opening the way for further reinforcements, the few camera drones stationed around the stargate began to malfunction. The last, heavily-distorted images of the stream depict the Hel Mothership with multiple hull breaches and major fires spreading across its decks as it came under concentrated fire from the entire capital squadron. As the surviving Defiant ships sped past in support, the Hel painfully realigned itself on a vector towards the heart of the Imperial Capital formation.
The entire scene lasted not more than 2 minutes before transmission was finally terminated. Imperial forces are once again reported to be moving in full pursuit of the main Minmatar force. No trace of surviving Defiant forces has been reported.
It was my honour to fly into battle alongside the Defiants on several occaisons against the Amarr. It brings a great sadness to me to hear of the destruction of the Defiants flagship the Alfhild.
In this brave last stand the Minmatar people have lost many great heroes. May this final act of theirs stand as final testament to their commitment, honour and courage. These men and woman were amongst the best of us, truly willing to lay down their lives in defence of kin. Today they brought the Starkmanir home to us. It is a tragedy to lose such fine Matari as Ode Goriad and those who served under him and under Muritor before him.
It does not seem likely that any of our brothers shall return home from this battle, but if any of them remain out there, I implore you to not give up. Fight on and know that our thoughts are with you, may you yet return home.
It was an honour to fight by your side and to have known you. May you at last find the peace you so rightly deserve. For you the fight is over, know that we shall continue in your place.
Good bye my friends.

The mighty Alfhild, it's crew, and the crews of the many other ships lost today will live on in our hearts and memories, and in the smiles of the millions of children who woke up this morning as slaves, but will go to sleep this evening free.
I salute you, brothers!

My only regret is that I could not stand with them in this battle. All I can do now is enlist at the nearest tribal recruitment office. One wonders what would have been if the Republic Fleet had joined the battle.
To the Starkmanir I have only these words: Welcome home

Lost?
Did not the defiant's have access to the current trend of cloning technologies?
And if so surely there cannot be that many failed re-spawns during todays fleet actions.

The body of Karishal Muritor was kept in trust by ourselves in Providence. Shortly before the fall of our Providence stations his body was evacuated out to safety. One day we might be allowed to return him home in the manner he deserves, until then we keep him safe as we promised to his men that we would.

To the Defiants, I can only say we met in the battlefield on their first campaign in the Bleak Lands, and again in the second one. This is the third time we will, and the third is the definitive one. They are doomed, and they know it. Those few that still remain will be hunted down. |

So the destruction of an entire Elder task force which had launched a suprise attack on the empire, and the retreat from the Imperial fleet by the Matar is a victory for them. How many millions of slaves were saved...and how many billions of slaves will die for their actions now. This isnt a war now, this is an extermination.

Extermination all I can say is bring it on and let us see you try.
Don't forget that the destroyed fleet had already spent substantial time bombing your civilian population and invading with millions of shock troops unless I am much mistaken.
Whilst I can understand your happiness that your Empire finally managed to pull its head out of its collective ass it was not before they had mislaid a large chunk of their citizens life signs. |

No matter how you lie, the truth of the Matari victory was reported by The Scope in real time. You say an entire Elder task force was destroyed. In fact, the Elder task force was made up of three elements, ONE of which was destroyed. The Defiants covered the withdrawal of the other two elements, which were carrying roughly ten million liberated brothers and sisters.
So, we destroy the entire 7th Fleet. We destroy countless Amarrian defense assets. We provoke the revelation of a previously unknown super weapon in the hands of the Amarr. We provoke the revelation of a heretofore thought dead Sarum. Both of those revelations are priceless intel. We sacrifice one mothership and two carriers, plus support, to halt the advance of a much larger Imperial force during the retreat. The bulk of the Starkmanir tribe has been returned to us. Our objectives were met, and more.
