I have some questions regarding important missions, and faction standing. I wish to increase my standing with caldari state in order to take part in faction warfare. Please tell me if I have this right.
The only way to increase my standing is to do important missions, which I will get one important mission for every sixteen missions I do for the same agent, is that correct?
Also can I just grind level one missions (all i can do because of bad standing.) in order to raise my standing to the needed .5?
Third does anyone know roughly how many important missions it will take me to go from .12 to .5?
Fourth what is the easiest way to get lvl 2 missions? I have a well fitted tech II battlecruiser, i just never did missions before, and right now my standing is very low. I had heard I believe somewhere that you can just use a social skill in order to get them, is this true? Also will these improve my standing faster?
Thanks, and sorry for the long post, if there is just a guide somewhere that you can point me to that will do.

I hate these "search"-answers. Sucks. I would like to know the same thing, and I am too damn lazy to search since the search here is implemented in a worst-case-fashion. Anyway, anyone could answer the OPs question would make me very happy :) |

Every sixteen missions for any agents at the same level for the same faction

Yes

Depends on whether you get kill missions (generally better faction gain) or courier missions

Connections skill will improve standings with corps with positive standings to you

According to what a GM told me in response to a petition I filed a while ago, it's every 16-20 missions you get an important (storyline) mission. |

Every 16th level 1 mission you run for the same faction will give you a level 1 storyline mission.
Every 16th level 2 mission you run for the same faction will give you a level 2 storyline mission.
Every 16th level 3 mission you run for the same faction will give you a level 3 storyline mission.
Every 16th level 4 mission you run for the same faction will give you a level 4 storyline mission.
Generally, combat storyline missions get you better faction gains - but all corps can give out combat or courier storyline missions. The fastest way to gain lots of faction standing (you don't need that much) is to run lots of level 4 courier missions or fast combat missions - and hope you get lucky with the storyline missions they give you. |

One question regarding storylines. Should I decide to not do storyline offers right away, up to how many storyline agents can I "stack"? Is there a limit? |

I've personally 'stacked' seven storyline missions before completing them, but I also found a decent location with a storyline agent in the system and a ring of six storyline agents all three jumps away from that home system.
Theoretically, the only thing limiting you on how many storyline offers you can have going is the time it takes for an offer to expire. ---

Ignoring the claim that Eve is a sandbox, for a moment. Storyline missions are most easily compleated by pilots traing mostly combat skills. These pilots should have the appropriate skills trained as they advance through the tier system. If you desire to train non combat skills you will find yourself at a disadvantage in compleating the important storyline missions.
My personal example: I want to concentrate on science and research ATM, I do missions from a lvl 2 manufacturing agent, and 1 mission to reset my research agent. The storyline mission, also from a manufacturing agent, is a 4 part combat mission, I got creamed in my destroyer, and having just finished cruiser, I went the 10 jumps, swapped ships and after a difficult fight I finished the mission.
I petitioned as to the appropriateness of this type mission for a manufacturing agent. Of course the reply was, a small percentage of these missions are in the manufacturing agents que, I always have the option of decling an important storyline mission.
OK, do more mining and currier missions for my manufacturing agent and reset the research agent and get another storyline from a different manufacturing agent ( was in a different system when storyline popped ) And I get another kill mission. Need cruiser again.
Fine, do more mining and currier missions for a manufacturing agent and reset my research and get a storyline from a manufacturing agent and it is the same 4 part kill mission.
Now my math may be weak, but 3 in a row means either A.) the mix of combat missions in the que is not so small; or B.) It is the luck of the draw, in which case, where are my lottery winnings? Of course I could always turn down these important storyline missions, 3 in a row, which a trained combat pilot would have no problem with.
Point is, for combat pilots, you only need the skills you planned on training. For those that want to do something else you either accecpt the fact your opportunities in storyline are less, of you cross train to have good combat skills in addition to what you really want to train. |

One thing. Someone said earlier that grinding lvl 1s will get you the standing you need. This isn't true, only the storyline (or important as you call them) missions generate faction standing. Normal missions only generate corporation standing. If you currently have any standing for the faction (not the corporation), you can train connections to raise that standing (if you're > 0 - liked) or diplomacy (if you're < 0 - disliked). That's probably your fastest, least painful way to get involved.

Just an update, 2 more storyline missions after doing nothing but currier missions. And for Storyline I get the 4 part Whisper in the Shadows Twice more. That makes 4 of my last 5 stortlines this one combat mission.
It appears to me that the majority of design features and designers consider combat to be the only value in the game, someone desiring to do other than combat is a second class subscriber.
I guess if the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer, everything begins to look like a nail. The lack of imagination is underwhelming. Not everyone is interested in pew-pew all the time. A sizeable portion of the subscriber base is being short changed.

here's a question along this vein. The last couple storyline missions I received we're 10 part missions. Do you get a faction bump for each part? I never paid attention, and now I'm wondering.

No. Only the last part gives the faction boost Free Snickers to those that dare to edit my signature. |

you missed the third option: ccp's random generator it useless.
Don't know if it could have made a difference in your case but I know I'm bored of getting identical missions when I decline and getting upset when I get permajammed by frigs with ''lucky'' ecm.

In response to the part about how many storyline missions to get to 0.5?, for an alt with minimal social skills and poor combat skills, after 3 or 4 storyline missions for minmatar, my standing is only about 0.22. So for the level 1 non-combat storyline missions, 0.5 to the faction will take a while, or just train the connections skill (under social skills). But if you are up to level 2 missions (a caracal missile boat with assault launchers works well), then that 4 part level 2 whispers in the dark can give about 0.43 faction gain for a smaller faction. If you stick with the same corp, every successful mission raises your corporation standing, not just the storyline mission, so that will be getting you closer to their level 2 agents faster.

Normally I reply somewhat rudely to people asking questions that could be answered via a quick search, but the Eve forum search is--to say the least--rather bad and undependable, so I don't normally do it here.
It's really that bad; I can search for the exact title of a thread that I know exists, and it'll find stuff from years ago that's only half-relevant, if that.
Plus Eve's documentation as a whole, while getting better, is somewhat lacking in certain areas.
