In the next few days I'll be moving up to battleships... (Yes I know I don't have the supporting skills to actually use one effectively :/ )
But my question is this: Which one is better?
I'm not planning on using it in 1 on 1 fights. I'm planning on mainly being one of several people running security on corp mining events and fleet actions.
Suggestions/opinions?

After upcomming missles cahnges raven will be usless as youcan't fit a full rack of siege and heavy wont carry cruise. So you might as well fly a scorp then a raven. 0verkill Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we aren't out to get you.

Well the Scorp is good for it's eight mid slots, makes it very versital.. but most Scorp set ups are lite of offence, but very good on defeance...
The Raven is a better all out combat ship, but if you are going to be running in a team, then get a Raven and Scorpion working as a team...
I've really noticed that they are really ment to be used togethor, as one is much stronger where the other is weaker.
What gets me though, is that nither one is truly teir 1 or teir 2.... they both seem like teir 1.5 to me
The thing about a Raven, is that it's a money sink, feeding 6/2 Raven is costly, if you use Cruise/Torps all the time.
If it's a matter of cost, then go with the Scorp, if money is no object then go with the Raven ;)

Edited by: Teeth on 10/05/2004 20:32:58 I don't think the Raven will be useless.
For one thing, both its bonuses are going to be applied towards missiles. The speed bonus might not be the greatest but I think it'll help with ranged combat.
Also, missiles are going to get extra damage from skills (instead of more speed/agility), if I read TomB's post correctly.
Not sure about shoehorning the siege launchers in, but remember that now Siege launchers are going to be able to hold a lot more missiles in them (less reload frequency = higher dot).

I was under the impression that Ravens/Scorpions would get a shield size/cruise missile damage bonus while the Cruise Missile skill was tuned to a speed bonus.
Standard missile would be for agility (not sure about this).

no, worst thing that can happen is that you have to decide whether you want to tank or to deal damage which is a problem that pilots of i.e. Apoc are facing for a long time already. besides that, the changes aren't even on chaos yet so its a bit too early to complain if you don't even know what exactly will be changed and how yet.
Edit: Besides that, Ashelth said he wants to do cap on mining ops. For this, he better uses rails anyway so the missile launcher nerf would not hurt him. For doing cap I am very sure that raven is better than a Scorp.

I'm not sure how accurate the skunks missile/missile skill stats are at eve-db but they seem to suggest that all standard missile skills (standard, heavy, cruise) will increase all standard missile speeds. Raven's skills on there were cruise missile damage and launcher ROF and scorpion was changed to cruise missile damage and shield capacity. They then had a further 3 new skills for flight time, agility and something else.
Jim will probably clear this up though...

Read all his proposed changes. If anything the Raven will do more damage. The part that's going to suck EDITED- No part is going to suck. Teeth read some stuff wrong. Drugs are bad hmmmkay ;-)

I read Tombs post and it didnt say anything about 10 minute reloads, what he was saying was that with the increased missle capacity a launcher could fire constantly for 10 minutes at base rate of fire i.e 20 sec RoF, but skills will change that due to faster rate of fire.

its plain wrong, TomB said you can fire for 10 minutes without reloading. Reloading itself will still take the same amount of time as always.
(in detail: siege launcher will be able to hold 30 cruise missiles, base rof is 20 secs. that is 3 missiles per minute, which means 10 minutes for 30 missiles. skills which increase ROF will of course reduce this to something around 5-8 minutes)

I'm an idiot, yes I misread the part about reloading.

So back to the topic, Raven will not suck after the changes.

The Raven's not going to suck, as you can fit 6 siege and two guns in, just requires very, very good skills and either meta equipment or a Co-processor in low, many other battleships need power diags to increase powergrid, no reason the raven shouldn't need to use a Co-P to fit its stuff.
The fact that you can go without reloading for 5 or 6 minutes sounds very alluring, I may have to buy myself a raven.
