For the record, I don't condone drug use. Or atheism. Life is so much more fun when you surround yourself with gods and demons.
This is the last pre-novel chronicle, and once again, it ties in with events in the book. Next time, we'll get into postwar stories.

I think I can almost hear the prayers of the Amarr loyalist corporation members, that Revan Neferis is dead as a doornail. What would she have made out of this revelation?

Absolutely fantastic work in every way...
The picture...and the dramatic irony it imbues the story with ("what is being depicted? I haven't read anything so far that shows thi--oh man!")
The idea of a narcotic faith.
The characterization of Karsoth.
The bombshell at the end.
Simply brilliant.

I wasn't quite sure, and reread it a couple times, but I think the people in the room there are 'just' Amarr engaging in drug use, etc, under Karsoth's protection.
Quote: Understand, acolyte. There exist a people who think like this. I found them through much the same crisis of faith as you extemporized to me, a truth that defied the death you were staring in the eyes. I will send you to them now, as my emissary.
That to me says the people in front of them are not, in fact, Blood Raiders, but that Antar is being sent to communicate and work with the Blood Raiders. Still an OMG moment, and doesn't at all change the fact that the Chamberlain clearly is violating Amarr law and traditions... and may well indicate where he disappeared to after the supposedly dead Amarrian heiress took control of the Amarr fleets to drive back the Elders.
On that note... she also seems to be the most likely candidate for the enemy the Chamberlain refers to, though unfortunately it seems unlikely that the Blood Raiders will engage in much pew-pew in space going after her, as if I read the recent stories right, I'd say she has a titan under her command as well as the backing of the Amarr fleets... which doesn't sound like good odds for the Blood Raiders.

Interesting how the chamberlain has bood raider spies and contacts that are so cvlose and hidden in the amarr society.

Claim to have known all along and be one of the people in that room?

The character in the foreground, who I am assuming is the Chamberlain reminds me of Jabba the Hut.
So there are bloodraiders in the amarr government, certainly answers the question of why blood raider logs are occasionally found on Amarr Navy vessels in various missions against the amarr empire. -------------------------------- To borrow a phrase:

Abraxas, could you please clarify this bit.
Quote: "Yes, your grace," Antar said. "Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Who are these people?"
Chamberlain Karsoth smiled. "They are called the Blood Raiders."
With "these people", is he refering to the people in the room (Boobies!) or the "enemy" Karsoth mentions in the previous parapraph: Quote: "There is an enemy out there that needs to be dealt with, for she stands against all that we are [...]
If it is the former, people in the room are Blood Raiders (Boobies!), allies of Karsoth, if it is the later, people in the room (Boobies!) are somesuch group but Blood Raiders are the enemies and allies of, presumably, Jamyl Sarum.
(Or maybe my reading comprehension just sucks.)
Oh yeah. Boobies!

This paragraph was the thoughts of Antar ?
Otherwise - great read as always.

Edited by: Ethidium Bromide on 17/06/2008 11:45:54 maybe i just wanted to read into it what i would like to read but i understand it a little different.
the chamberlain employs a group of people who at first sight are outcasts and cirminals in the eyes of the average Amarr. they do not believe in the letters of the words describing God but they found their own way to their inner light without being slaves to the faith.
therefore those individuals (here forming a group) are able to work without constant supervision, especially in roles and areas the average fatihful amarr could not tolerate or assimilate into Originally by: Chamberlain "Yes, Antar, they'll be fine. They come here now and then to tell me news from the darker parts. Most are free to wander the court as they please, but they tend to prefer each other's company until they depart."
so Karsoth, being a firm beliver but not in the proclaimed God of the scriptures, found there were others like him and that some problems can not be adressed by dealing with them in ancient ways. therfore he formed (or took over) this group.
the fact there is a passageway to get there indicates that this group was there for a lnog time but only the ones high up and in direct contact to the emperor new of them and could make use of them.
well.. that's my understanding at least. EDIT: great read as always

As a pure-bred Minmatar, I cannot possibly condone such behaviour which can be extremely danaging to your health, wealth and general well-being.

Quote: "Yes, your grace," Antar said. "Yes, yes, a thousand times yes. Who are these people?"
Chamberlain Karsoth smiled. "They are called the Blood Raiders."
The outcome of this story completely depends on this last sentence Antar said. If "these people" means the people in the room (where some of us might wish to be :D), then the chamberlain himself is working together with the blood raiders. But if "these people" Antar and the chamberlain were talking about were the "the ones closest to her" (and "her" meaning the wannbe empress), the heiress and future empress herself would be working together with the blood raiders. No matter what is true, this would lead to dramatic events for the Amarr empire, events possibly more dramatic than the recent events.

The pronouns are very confusing here. I read the last bit to mean that "she" was the term for a group (the people of a country) motherland etc. I took a perpsective change when Karsoth suggests he will be off. Off meaning to travel away not right here into the back room. So I took it all to mean he will go on a secret mission to join the blood raiders to undermine them. Time to go buy the book.

You read it exactly right.
For anyone who's wondering, it's entirely possible for someone to resemble a normal Amarrian and still belong to the Sani Sabik. They originated within the Amarr Empire, after all. Yes, their faction is extreme and gruesome and all that jazz, but not every member must adhere to that image, just like not every bad guy has his wickedness painted on his face.
Originally by: Victor Valka Karsoth mentions in the previous parapraph: Quote: "There is an enemy out there that needs to be dealt with, for she stands against all that we are [...]
Karsoth likes Blood Raiders. Karsoth does not like Sarum. She is his enemy.
Originally by: Ethidium Bromide maybe i just wanted to read into it what i would like to read but i understand it a little different.

well.. that's my understanding at least.
That's a completely valid interpretation of the story. I present Karsoth and his people as bad guys, but nobody is the bad guy in his own mind.
And really, the way they're presented in this story - their willingness to plunge the depths of the human spirit and deal with the darkness within - isn't all that far removed from another group of people we all think of as the good guys: The Speakers of Truth.
Originally by: Heyte Is it just me... or do the amarr actually have brooklyn-type accents?
Abraxas, is there any actual way each ethnic talks? :P
Not really, but there's a certain way that a character will talk, depending on his background, his role in the story, and whatever books or TV episodes I've been taking in recently.
For what it's worth, I wrote this story right after watching the first season of The Wire.
