I think the big difference is that the other trailers were for geeks and they wanted to show off their engine. These last trailers were to impress the general public and were shown on TV and thus had to be more awesome and the "made with ingame engine" didnt really matter.

Edited by: Tarminic on 20/06/2008 15:19:23 As far as I know regarding the trailer:
The first 2/3rds of the trailer uses actual in-game footage, but with uncompressed textures rendered ad extremely high resolutions (something like 8000x6000) and then sized down to produce what looks like extremely good anti-aliasing. The fighter spiraling out of control was scripted, but the flame effects are the same as in the actual game (would like to see fighters die that way, get on it CCP!), as were the various weapon effects.
What was definitely not rendered using the in-game engine is the final scene with Jamyl's Abaddon wasting the Minmatar fleet.. It was probably rendered in Maya, using the completely uncompressed textures, and with all the awesome stuff you can do when you don't have to render in real time like the planetary effects and the blue ball of death thingy. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.81 (Updated 4/8) |

The way I look at it is that this last video was the final part of the two teasers. Neither of the teasers were captured in-game, yet they seem to be missing from the critism.
We might be seeing a shift where the video's are becoming more plot driven, instead of just being sample driven.
Anyway, I expect we will continue to see more of both in-game catured promotional videos as well as more prime fiction based promotional videos.

I never got to see the whole video, I paused on the hot chick corpse at the beginning.

Not always check out the older ones, they use ingame footage.

You f*cking trolls deserve to die miserably.
Now thats just not nice, telling people they deserve to die should be against the law..

The most logical reason, besides being better looking, is because ccp had to portray all the ingame events such as the nyx ramming the station, the destruction of the concord station at yulai, and create something to explain how 10 battleships insta killed a whole fleet with capitol ships in it.

I think that they made the trinity trailer to last. In other words if someone says "hey what does eve look like?" you show them the trinity trailer, There is no reason to replace the trinity trailer.
However if someone asks "what does CCP wanty eve to look like?" then you show them this.
