Ok so I've tried unsuccessfully to resolve these issues but after an hour of trying I have given up.
Upon the installation of the patch I am greeted with an error message, logged below, which suggests I run "repair.exe". Running this however also throws up an error message, also logged below. The entire problem seems to centre around the Launcher.exe which doesn't install properly. The error message given seems to imply it isn't compatible with a 64bit os although trying to run it in compatibility mode does no good.
I then saw a response to this which suggested using " --buildno=344784" as the target for repair.exe, so shortcut made and this added. This managed to run the repair tool without throwing up any errors however launcher.exe still doesn't load and trying to repatch eve still doesn't work.
I am also having difficulties in downloading the full client which adds to my frustration; my area of the world has always struggled with patches, my 50mb connection being granted less than 100kb/s on most occasions, and I generally have to rely on others (usually Chribba) to provide a service CCP really ought to be provided, which is a reasonable download speed.
If possible can you do the simple thing of providing some kind of installation file just for this launcher.exe? Or a patch, or something which I can just download and overwrite to get it to work?
My OS is Windows 7 x64.
This is even more ridiculous - I can't even put the error logs in this page without this forum seeing it as HTML and throwing up an error. I can provide 3 error logs if you're interested. Please, please, please, can you sort this out? Look at how many users are online and realise just how many people are struggling. We just want to play the game, we don't care about your launcher; it's a game about spaceships not a game where the players spend all day debugging clients. |

It looks as though users running Windows 7 Ultmate x64 are all encountering the same error messages.
CCP: Error logs have been provided by multiple users all showing the same problem, are you not able to ascertain from those logs what the problem is? If so then what's the point of said error logs? Just another box I have to click "ok" on?
Again I am requesting the actual files to be provided for download to allow those of us struggling with Launcher.exe to bypass it and get our game to run. |

CCP Donut Golem wrote:Just to update everyone on the situation:
We're aware of the permissions issues plaguing some of our users. We're actively working on a fix for this.
In the mean-time, please do the following: 1. Restart your computer 2. Run the Repair Tool without starting any other EVE-related process (ie Client, Launcher, etc) beforehand. 3. Navigate to EVE/bin/ and run ExeFile.exe directly. 4. Please reply to this thread confirming this work around, if it is, in fact, successful.
A few caveats about this approach. If you encounter permission errors on files during the Repair process, they may not have been completely updated to their latest versions. Therefore, you may not be running a completely sane client, but you might be able to get in-game.
Thank you for bearing with us while we sort these issues out.
Hi,
You must have missed the few dozen posts all saying the same thing. I'll reiterate what has already been said in a more easy to understand manner.
The "Repair" tool does not work and itself throws up errors.
My requests and suggestions have thus far been ignored so I'll say the following with the grim hope that someone with some common sense reads it and acts upon it: Please roll back the server to Crucible 1.4 so you can spend more time working on these laughable and embarrassing problems which it has raised. |

The issue you are experiencing has nothing to do with 64 bit support. There are currently 37 000 players online TQ, a lot of them are running on a 64 bit OS. What you are experiencing is something else. Have you tried rebooting your computer and then without starting any eve client or anything else, run the repair tool. The reason why you will have to reboot is to make sure that there are no locked files from other programs. Please let me know how that works for you.
I see my 4th post was ignored like the other 3. If you had not of ignored it you would see that I myself tried the ~forever alone customer service~ advice of rebooting etc etc.
Can we stop with the first line technical support "is it plugged in" stuff now and move on to either removing the patch from the server for additional testing or an actual fix? By fix I mean a file which we can download, double click and wow look EVE works, not a "if you bury a frog in the garden and sing Maria in the bathroom mirror 3 times then try repair.exe" kind of fix please. |

The launcher says there are just under 32,000 on at the moment. Normally at this time we're looking at 45,000-50,000? Maybe more? We're looking at a possible 20,000 users unable to connect.
Still working on that patch?
I hope CCP Diagoras puts the statistics of how many pilots unsub during this debacle on twitter. |

CCP Cascade wrote:As of 23:57 GMT we released a new Launcher and a new repair tool to resolve some issues that players have been experiencing during the initial deployment of Crucible 1.5.
Those of you experiencing issues with the Launcher or updating the game, please follow these steps:
1.Reboot the computer. 2.Navigate to the EVE client install folder. 3.Run the Repair tool until it finshes. 4.Run eve.exe from the same folder
We ask people to reboot their computer to make sure that there are no locked files or other processes running while running the repair tool. This would otherwise interfere with the repair tool and prevent the client from updating.
Please let us know if this resolves the issues you are experiencing.
Doesn't work, same issues. The launcher doesn't even load any more.
The repair.exe does. not. work. You repeatedly tell us to run it and we repeatedly tell you it doesn't work. At some point something has to give.
Please give us the files to download, the patch files, anything, or better yet roll the patch back and re-release it when you've tested it properly.
Guys, there's a shortfall of approx 20,000 players online at this time, isn't this enough to show you how much this patch is affecting people? There's like 30k people online when normally there's 50k. Please roll the patch back.

Haha, this is hillarious. After literally text-screaming at them that repair.exe doesn't work and mocking them for their first line technical support nonsense I wake up today and the latest piece of advice is? Reboot, run repair.exe! lol We're being trolled guys.
After 3...

REPAIR.EXE DOESN'T WORK!
Please roll the patch back or give us the files we need. I asked this last night and it's shocking to see that nearly 24 hours since the patch was rolled out there are still several thousand players unable to log in. For whatever reason there is a serious issue with Windows 7 Ultimate X64 users, one which was brought to your attention which you ignored. Did you not see the low amount of people online last night? You need to roll the patch back so you can do more testing on it. Stop dicking about asking us to reboot and get it fixed. |

Well a buddy sent me his Launcher 1.09 folder (thanks CCP for ignoring me on this and for allowing your playerbase to do your job for you). The launcher actually loads up but like before loops at 25% back to 0% and dramatically reduces available space on my c:\
How long until you finally roll back the patch and admit defeat? Am I going to go another day without being able to play while you continually ask me to reboot and run repair.exe? |

28 pages of complaints and this still isn't fixed?
This update is a total mess even if you can get in the game let alone being one of the many thousands who can't.
Rollback the server to Crucible 1.4 please. I'm asking yet again. Please. You need to do more testing of this update and get it fixed before re-releasing it. |

Just ran the installer on my laptop running Windows 7 Home Premium x64, patched first time and loaded up so I am at least in game now.
This further adds to my belief it is a particular issue with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. |

Alunis wrote:Ok this is terrible to have to go through this many hoops in order to have fixed a problem that isn't a problem on my end but a poor lack of sight on CCP's part.
Two things that had to be done in order to FIX the problems.
ESET Security 5 had to be told to give exceptions under protocol filtering for ExeFile.exe, launcher.exe, and repair.exe.
The other thing that had to be done was in my router I had to turn off SPI filtering.
Stateful packet inspection has caused issues with rsync in the past under UNIX applications and it also seems that it can and will create issues for Eve's new launcher.
These are not things I enjoy having to turn off because I do like to keep a properly secured system but these are the current exceptions that I had to make for Eve in order to get it working properly.
One this was done I could run the repair client and the launcher worked.
Again, I point out that these issues many of us posted on back in January on Sisi and we told CCP that the launcher in it's current state was not ready to be deployed. Until I can remove these exceptions for Eve and turn SPI back on I consider the client broken and a security risk due to poor coding and QA control.
Just done this and the patch loop has stopped and launcher seems to be working! I'll post in a moment if it works. |

I didn't do anything to my router, only added the protocol exception to ESET NOD32. Make sure it's not an exclusion but the actual protocol filtering as said. |

Also just an FYI, if you load eve via the ExeFile.exe in the bin folder, and you're in Windows 7, pin this to your taskbar and then you can load up multiple clients by just right clicking it and loading up another, means you bypass that launcher.exe. |

thoughts ?
Try the anti-virus suggestion.
Which anti=-virus are you using? Go to it's options and look for something which allows you to add an exclusion in the Protocol for launcher.exe, repair.exe, exefile.exe, eve.exe. Add the exclusions, run the repair, run launcher. If this fails then delete all the cache from the local appdata folder and try again. |

Ok so I've disabled ESET entirely (system now unprotected, thanks CCP) but the exact problems that affected us over the past two days are still happening, so the issue is no longer with ESET but with something else.
I've given up speaking to CCP. I sent a complaint via email which has so far been ignored. All their devs have done in this thread is tell people to reboot, it literally is a joke - we have a show in the UK called The IT Crowd which satirizes this exact thing. Is there any member of the EVE community who can figure this out? This problem was solved by an EVE player last time so I'm assuming it'll be solved by another EVE player this time. Apparently EVE is now all about CCP devs breaking the game that the EVE playerbase has to solve. |

It's patched fine on my laptop, Windows 7 Home Premium x64 which has ESET NOD32 running (same as my pc). Again my belief is the issue is with Windows 7 Ultimate x64. Can't be anything to do with the router because the laptop is going through the same one. |

Ok guys I've managed to do my own work around and got in.
Basically whatever launcher.exe tried to do it managed to break itself and the game with it. Did you guys keep a copy of the launcher folder? If not I'm uploading a copy of mine now for you to download.
Do this:
1) Disable ESET entirely. You may need to reboot. Close it down completely out of your task manager. 2) Copy across the launcher backup folder and replace all files. 3) Run launcher without running repair.exe (wtf is the point with this file anyway)
Hold on while I upload my launcher file as a zip in case you don't have it backed up. |

You should read the posts in this forum properly. I have already said that today's patch negates the work around you have quoted here. A work around I might add which CCP devs didn't find but another player on here who has yet been acknowledged by CCP for doing their job for them.
I repeat, today's patch broke this work around. |

You can try the adding to eset protocol exclusions trick but like I said this patch stopped that working for me. Try turning ESET off altogether, download my launcher file on the other page and try that. |

Well I did manage to get EVE to work on my PC but it's a pointless endeavour; it uses 3 x the amount of resources that Skyrim does. To put things into perspective, I pretty much have two EVE clients open all the time and generally flip into other games, such as Skyrim (or TF2), when things in EVE are quiet. Now 1 EVE client takes up so much processing power that it feels like I'm on a Pentium 3 on a 56kb modem trying to load up a website. This is while docked too with that stupid station thing turned off and all settings on low/disabled. To put things into even more perspective, I loaded up Skyrim, Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 all at the same time and, while tabbed out, managed to load up websites absolutely fine.
As it stands it would be pointless trying to do anything in EVE on my PC; if I went onto a fleet, like the one I wrote a battle report for on my EVESwarm site, I would most likely crash within seconds. Fortunately I have a laptop with a different version of Windows which seems to run EVE without the same resource-hogging issues as it does on my PC, so for the time being I'll have to switch computers.
Of course I'm one of the lucky ones; I can actually get EVE to work (even despite the first patch breaking it and the second patch breaking the workaround to the first patch). It's sad to see my corp mates having to report to me explaining why they're not in game and it being due to this patch.
I imagine that because the patch hasn't been removed from the server that this backlash was expected by CCP and was considered to be an acceptable trade off.
But it's ok guys, we'll just reboot and run repair.exe, right? |
