Would it be better in the longrun to skill towards Mackinaw ice mining or Hulk everything else mining?
I heard it would be easier for a dedicated Ice miner to get into a corp than a dedicated Hulk miner? Is that true?
Thanks

A vast majority of skills are identical, one could say training for ice mining is faster and easier.
The only real difference is that you want Ice Harvesting L5 for ice mining (you would train it to L4 even if you trained for a Hulk, you know, just in case), whereas on a Hulk, you would also train at least L3, preferably L4 in all relevant ore processing skills, alongside Mining 5 (you would already have Mining 4 anyway).
In other words, your original question is pointless. You will simply train for both anyway.

Ice mining is great for macro accounts, not so much for group actively. I have seen some "corp" ice mining but really asking people to sit there and mine for something that at best takes 5 mins per cycle is asking too much.
For great ice mining you want Exhumers 4 and ice mining 5, for hulk mining you want Exhumers 4 and Arkonor, Bistot, and Crokite at 4; both need Mining upgrade 4. Hope this helps you on your path.

Actually for ice mining you want exhumers at either 3 or at 5. Skilling it up to 4 does not do anything.

yes it does, it decreases cycle time (3% for hulk, 5% for mack)

Actually, ice minings long cycle times lend really well to corp ops, in that it gives a lot more time for drunken teamspeak escapades.

As my current corp is eastern Euro, I'm not sure how that would sound. Last time we all got on vent together it broke out with which countries has the best military; I think we would have podded each other after that little conversation.

Depends on how you mine.
If you are 'real' miner - ie sitting at your computer and looking at the screen when you mine then Mining yield pimped Hulk (ore + t2 crystals) is the best way to go. If you are looking mostly for 'afk' mining then cargo expanded hulk with ice miner II's is the best 'afk' ship needing attention every 30 or so minutes approx to dock and drop off ice and jump back to belt.
Mack is the best ice miner but to be 'worth it' you would need to be in well organized 0.0 ice mining corp as empire ice kinda sucks for mining while looking at your screen.

To the original post, if you are looking to see which is better to be accepted into a corp, I think if you are willing to put in any time at all to train the skills and have patience for either type, any corp would be glad to have you.
Other than that, the market wil determine which is best for ISK. But I agree with Carniflex's first paragraph 2 posts up.
