Originally by: MidnightMatriarch I've yet to meet someone under the age of 16 in-game who has played more than a month. EVE just seems to repel the average minor, especially, its sad to say, the average American minor.(Yes I am an American, and I am simply bringing up an observation about how American kids are different from most of the rest of the world, please don't edit me Mr. Mod ^^ ) EVE is a cold, dark, unforgiving world. The same qualities that make me love the game seem to be like kryptonite to kids. I guess it takes a certain level of maturity to continue to play after your first few hard lessons.
Though this is by no means a bad thing, in my opinion less kids equates to a better community, though certain members of the EVE community, EVE-o especially, tend to still make a colossal arse out of themselves.
BTW I'll be 28 soon enough ^^.
Ugh, another self loathing American. Honestly ALL MINORS OF ALL NATIONS are going to be idiots. I have met a lot of whiny American minors in another game. However the most annoying, cry baby of them all happened to be British. If I got the choice to punch one of them, it would be him and id damn well make it count.
Chances are your going to run into more American minors in game because...*GASP* your playing in the same time zone as them! All the Euro kiddies have long been in bed or out causing hell for you to notice them.
I hate whiny kids in games. I've met my share of obnoxious ones but I have also met some ,not in eve, that were able to pass for an older player or at least had better manners then some of the euro and aussie teens i have met. Theres always good and bad but to suggest that 1 group has the most is just moronic.
As for me im 28. As for the reason there aren't likely as many American teens in this game is because EVE has zero presence in the game shops. I only heard of this game through a friend in another MMO. If it wasnt for him I would probably be first hearing about Eve during BSG episodes.
The problem with wow is how commercial it is.Just like final fantasy 7 brought out all the wanna be rpg players saying it was the greatest rpg ever created, that same is true with wow. people that have never played an rpg or mmo have been brought into it by wow.Because they have only played wow and never another game on a pc, they think they are true gamers. You have to hear about them babble on about some fairy and sword play as though it was something unique.
FF7 players that thought the series started with part 7 were posers. They caused a flood of boring, ill designed "rpgs" rushed to the market to get a peice of the action. Real gamers were then lumped in with those posers. The same is now true with those in MMOs and the wow players.
Wow itself is just a slicker version of eq2 with gfx that are much more cartoon like. Its nothing new or unique. It somehow got the attention of non gamers. People that never played warcraft got into it somehow. Its all you see at the game shops. Its the warhammer 40k of mmos. BattleTech > 40k but 40k is far more commercial, therefore it must be a better game. Same is true with wow vs any other game out there. its an average game but nothing special. as for the players, i knew some guys trying it and a chick with a hell of a rack and really cute that was a heck of a flirt but half way cross country and in and out of a relationship

kids are kids from all places and yes this game does tend to keep the more mature type from all countries.
And EVE has zero presence in ALL game shops across the world, not just the US.

I am 35, and have been playing MMO's since 2004, and EVE since 2007. My first MMO was Star Wars Galaxies, back in it's Pre-CU glory days, did the Jedi thing back when it was hard and rewarding, stuck it out through the Combat Downgrade, then eventually gave up as it failure cascaded due to the New Gawdawful Experience.
I love EVE because of both it's complexity and it's hardcore nature, it's the first game since Pre-CU SWG to offer me that.
My opinions are my own and do not reflect those of my corporation or alliance. |

SWG back then appealed to more mature players (after all it was set in the original trilogy timeline) and the NGE was an attempt to move it younger. Yecch.
I love EVE because of both it's complexity and it's hardcore nature, it's the first game since Pre-CU SWG to offer me that. I also appreciate the fact that EVE, due to it's nature, attracts more people around my age than WoW and it's infinite clones do.
Nearly everyone i've been in a corp with is an ex-pre cu SWG player and for most of them it was their first MMO, and they started playing EVE as it was the only other sandbox sci-fi MMO out there. So you have to think if SWG never existed, we would have a lot less players that would never have even experienced EVE in the first place.
(hmm, did that sound anywhere near coherent?)

61 and a half. And probably less mature than most of the under 16s (especially when returning from a night on the strong teas).

Just wondering? Does CCP have a "kids online safety department" to avoid youngsters getting into bad situations with the 60+ paedophile players?

Either way we got on the topic of what the average age of EvE subscribers is as our player base "at times" appears to be much more mature than our enemys the WoW tards and the Hello Kitty failures (chococat is tehgey..) So. I'd love to see a dev response to an acurate number to this question if possible.....What is the Average Age of EvE Subsribers?
Thank you in Advance,
Jillian....By the way im 22
Umm......... Mental age or Phyicial age? ...... continues overleaf. |

I have nothing to prove but someone whose first thought is about paedophilia seems to me to be a more worrying concern.

Actually, I think the skill system is one of the reasons why younger kid don't stay for more than a few months. In wow, you can grind your way to 70 in 3-5 months. In Eve, getting your character to what can be considered "end game" can take three or four years. I think many 12 year olds just dont' have that type of attention span.
3-5 months? I've levelled characters within 3 weeks to 70. And that's not even power-levelling just playing normally.

Takes about 10 days played to get to 70 (and that's still quite fast), so 240 hours in 21 days, I'd say that's not playing 'normally'.
