Installed the patch. First two clients loaded fine. Third client still has the same bug where your graphics options are totally different, except this time it wouldn't let me change the resolution. Every time I tried to set it back to 1152x864 it refused and stayed at 1280x960. I closed the 3rd client and re-launched and got the other same old bug where eve zooms off the desktop where you can't see it. I had to copy over my pc.dat file with a backup to make eve visible again.
After this the 3rd client fired up ok, but I still got the same old whiteout bug, even when running just 2 clients.
Glad to see you fixed some memory bugs, but there's 3 more bugs still waiting to be fixed before we can use multiple clients again.

Hey Guys! I really like the memory fix! But I had to uninstall the upgrade, even though I'm dying for it with 3 clients here on one pc! The Reason Is I don't Want the reprocessing window to close when I reprocess one Item, as I sometimes have pages of loot from lvl 4 missions, and you have to look and analyse your loot to make sure you don't reprocess your gold nuggets to lead.....Is there anyway I can get just the memory fix?

I do hope this finally fixes my issues. With 2 clients going my computer would completely lock up within an hour. With three it would be like 20 minutes. Testing it now.
Note that it only does this with EVE and I have 3 GB of memory... Everything else (like Crysis and what not) never crashes.

I am guessing that the memory fix (The Cache Size option in the ESC menu would always be set to High, no matter what value was selected/displayed, this has now been fixed.) is the fix to multiple clients as that is when the Cache Size bug would be the most noticable.

since this is the best place to ask, what would be the difference of no cache and low cache in terms of loading speeds?
oh I cannot test for awhile now, so just asking.

Seems to be working *really* nicely under Linux, on Wine, now. No memory problems when switching back and forth between the desktop. \o/
I did have something happen to me earlier - I tried to undock at one point, but it instead seemed to 'jam', reset the tutorials, and the EVE clock was winding itself round like it was possessed. Restarted the client and most of the cache seemed to have been deleted - portraits weren't deleted, but all my overview settings, sound settings etc. were reset. Not something I've seen before, on Linux or Windows.
Anyways could just be a weird EVE-on-Wine issue, but I'm posting this here in case anyone else comes across it.

Explain, please, this moment. I though that program data isolated on per-process basis. It is problem with your code or it is common Python engine problem that some data crossing up, leading system to crash?
Glad that you are aware of the fact that there is a problem with more than one client client running, we have this problem for a while back, but I can't understand, WHY it is a problem. Have never had any troublem running as many D3D applications as I want, but now - bah... BSoD every time we want to 2-box. Doesn't that means you need a stick to poke your coders to revisit the core code? And finally implement windowmanager in EVE? I already exhausted reporting all stupid window actions. --sig--

The Mac version of EVE (Cider-ized) used to have this problem (least the clock part and basically locking up at the same time), I think they managed to fix it at one point... not sure, since I set up my comp to dual boot into XP and get better FPS/less lag with Trinity graphics on XP than I do with the Mac version with it's classic-graphics-only.
Which is just to say that I suspect it's an EVE + Wine issue, it may affect the Mac version, but probably not the Windows version on Windows. Course, I'm knocking on wood atm cause I haven't installed the patch yet and am about to go do that...
Good luck finding a fix or having CCP locate whatever is causing it, either way

Well first impression is good. All three premium clients are patched. Memory usage per client is now between 300 and 400 MB (which my system can handle easily, 1 GB or so out of 3 used). It used to get much higher. The cache is set to low. The CPU is quite busy (90% load) but I haven't seen a crash yet and I've been running for several hours straight now. :D
I hope things remain stable. Fingers crossed.

i gave it a try because im having no end of trouble with 2 clients on Ubuntu Linux - at first it was so slow it was unplayable - i restarted it twice and it was a bit better but still really jerky. i looked in the escape menu and it only said "you have 1 optional patch installed" but i had installed the previous one too. - anyways i uninstalled which ever one it was and when i started eve again it offered to install the previous optional fix so i installed that and it still runs like crap. - any help?

Great to see CCP acknowledge this as a problem.
I've cautiously started testing, not in combat scenarios yet, but it looks good so far.
Anyone else experience BSODs *only* when two or more accounts are on the same grid? My PC is rock solid the rest of the time, I only have a problem when both my characters can see each other in space.
It would be goo to hear if anyone else experiences the same, pre-patch?

I know it is kinda off topic but I really wanted to say thanks for this temp patch.
My computer is uber, quad core, 4 gigs of ram, 8800's etc but I always had stacks of ram free when running mutiple clients.
Now when I set both to standard usage and run 2 x clients eve now takes an extra chunk of my spare ram and I have seen a boost in performance.
Have not tried 3 chars but I imagine I can run lag free 3 chars.
Also with the cache at low can run 2 x premium clients with zero lag at all so yeah to the temp patch.
I recommend it to everyone, eve now handles memory much better.

I had a BSOD today only with this patch, but my chars were in different systems. I never had a BSOD before so I uninstalled it.

this patch does nothing to solve my problem with opening multiple clients. Skill having flashing screen and having to ending tasking the most recent client (usually the 4th one cause the problem, but sometime the third on too)

Edited by: Khwalik on 26/06/2008 00:53:06 I've been away from EvE a bit preceding and following Emp Age....anyway last nite got on on two acccounts...some issue but nothing too unusual.... I get on today after DT see a patch and decide i'll try it even though i had no issue to speak of aside from typical things i've gotten used to .
man.... running two clients now is like pulling teeth, worst problems i think i have ever had with DC'ng in the middle of something...thankfully i'm not doing anything too uber, merely helping an alt grind standing.
i plan to uninstall this 'optional' upgrade and try again.
once again ccp grats on dropping the ball yet again, hmmm can another boot.ini be in our future i wonder?

Originally by: CCP Mandrake How to remove the optional patch without starting EVE, for those who can not start the eve client.
The optional patch is stored in a application data folder under all users, deleting it will effectively uninstall the optional patch.
Optional patch location Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE
In this folder you will see another folder called something like c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility, If you delete this folder then the optional patch is no more and you should be able to start your eve client normally.
I did this because after trying to install the patch would not let me run the client. after doing deleting that file I still have the same problem. the client wont run at all. No errors pop up, it just like it pauses after you try and run the client and nothing happens. Though the task manager says it is running each time i have tried, so maybe the patch has done something else to the client?

Please don't misinform other people, you know nothing clearly. There's no tools from AMD/Intel, it's no secret, in windows task manager (ctrl-alt-delete), you can set Core affinity for which process you want one which core. Useful if you have an AV running and it's slowing down ur PC, just take it off one core, and ur pc speeds up instantly. Same with multiple eve clients, if you're alt tabbing, say you have a dual-core cpu, and 4 clients, put alternate clients on each core, or related clients on alternate cores. For example, u got a capital ship, and a cyno alt, put them on alternate cores so they're always "live" and you can alt-tab instantly between them.
THERE'S NO RISK OF PHYSICAL DAMAGE OCCURING WITH THIS METHOD!! Go claim on microsoft if anything does happen, since it's window's fault lol. Seriously though, nothing will lol ----------------------------------------------- Mattyx Chief Executive Officer Galactic Savings and Investments

Thankx Wangler!
This patch works a charm on Vista, I am now able to run more than 3 clients above 40fps simultaneously and my production openoffice sheet (hogs memory with badly written formulas). Before vista would run outta memory with 3 clients even with gfx option turned off or as low as possible (and cache set to off) and I could only run EVE on two of the 4 lcd screens without my spreadsheet open
Vista Box, Quad Core, 2x 3870s CF, 4x 22" Lcd, Clients Max Settings @ 1650x1200, AA 48x
On XP there is no difference that I can tell. Multiple clients work great on XP and I have never had any problems with memory. XP also utilizes crossfire and more than 2 screens better than Vista still, and owns with CF being able to work with more than 2 screens installed.
XP Box (Service Pack 3), Dual Core, 1x 1900xtx 2x 22" Lcd, Clients Max Settings @ 1650x1200, AA 8x

Just tried to log on, eve tells me the optional patch is now incompatible, asks to remove it, I agree, now server status is perm 'unknown'.
Thanks!
Edit: Oh, while using this patch last night, I could no longer run multiple instances of Eve without crashes and mega lag spikes!
