I installed the old patch for the reprocess screen and the game worked fine, then this patch came out, I "dummy" pressed no. Tried to install it from the ESC menu and there was only a uninstall button. I thought if i uninstall the old one i might be able to install the new one, and i had no install button after that.
So i uninstalled the reprocessing window patch and didnt get the new one. Any possibility that CCP would make a extra mini-patch link in the patch downloads page for this one? As ppl didnt rly know what the patch was at the time? Timing is everything, always try to be fashionably late |

I'm have a game with this patch; before the memory leak patch I got the original reprocessing window patch, and all was fine; until the next reboot. then i would get "ccp exefile has stopped working" at random times. then on starting eve i got "optional patch available" and it listed both the memory fix and the reproc window fix. put em on, played for hours, no problems. reboot. "ccp exefile has stopped working". I think windows is system restoring the exe file to the unpatched state which is buggering it up. i'm going to turn off system restore, reboot and reinstall eve. I'm running on Vista Enterprise x64 edition btw. Anybody else getting the "install patch again" problem? Kbob

After the installation of this patch I experienced heavy lags in the station interface -- for example, moving items from cargo to corphangar at a 'speed' of 1 item per 5 seconds.
Removing of the patch solved this problem.

Hm, I use to run 2 clients on Windows 2000 Professional SP4 (AMD Athlon 1800+, 2GB RAM, Radeon 9100. Yea, old machine.), I have the usual CTD of one of the clients, but it's not so often. Lately I'm having some trouble when ALT+TABbing between clients in fullscreen mode. Then the client is not responding. The only chance to "survive" it is, to ALT+ENTER. The client comes usually back but everything is white, untextured. The textures are then loaded and after 2-3 seconds, evreything's textured again. Otherwise the client stays dead. For me.
Then again, there are things that bother me in windowed mode. If a windowed client is docked at a station, it somehow hogs a lot of resources. Making other applications in windows run slowly and lagged, regardless of running only one or two clients. It also effects the other client if there is a second client running.
Slightly worse, I have the same effect with a client during login state. From the beginning where you enter your account data to the character selection. Once logged in, it loosens a bit but the "docked performance hog" is taking effect. This is only in windowed mode.
It runs rather fine when both clients are in space... I wish I didn't have to dock every now and then ;)
I didn't yet notice any changes with the patch regarding the mentioned personal annoyances.

Only problem I have ever had with 3 clients going is a bit of memory leak which would occasionally cause me to have to shut one client and relaunch it, no big deal i am trying to do a lot so it can be expected.
AMD dual core 5200+, 8Gb DDR2, 2x x1650's.
Not a great machine but good enougth for 3 Clients. Trinity is graphics/processor hungry if your PC aint upto it running more than 1 client will cause problems, the fix CCP should release is "Upgrade your x386,x486 or whatever to something more suitable for the task or stick to nonTrinity graphics"

Windows Vista. Two premium graphics clients on the same computer.
Before the patch one of the two clients had recently started having the tendency to freeze up and crash after an hour or two.
After installing the patch I actively ran two clients for some 6-7 hours without any crashes, so initial prospects are promising.
Good job CCP. ======================== Real men structure tank.

Tonite I ran both patched clients for hours, with new graphics for hours and they had zero problems: smooth as silk, no memory leaks, no crashes.

For people who cant find the install optional patch in the Esc. menus, you have to be logged into the game to see this option. If you try before connecting to the server you only have the uninstall option.

I installed patches on both my accounts a few days ago, I have had no problems running both at the same time, trading, ganging was OK. I have hot problems with the overview since then and it looks like I've lost the option to not display gang and alliance members in the overview. This caused no end of problems while on a fleet op the other night. Overview problems have been a recurrent problem since I bought the extra account but this new problem, an overload of ship info in the overview causes problems in reacting to combat situations. Any advice?

I usually run 3 clients but can run up to 5 at times, install the new patch and have nothing but good things to say so far. Had one lock up but think that was more due to an AVG scan starting than the clients. Each client is using about 20% less memory than before, so yay!

I decided that i would try and set up my second monitor and run 2 clients today to save all the alt+tabbing.
I now have a problem which i cant fix. The login screen is the size of my 22 inch monitor thus when i press escape to change it to windowed mode/resolution i cant see these options anymore because they dont fit in the screen
I have tried to reinstall the client but it still retains the these troublesome settings due to uninstall not actually removing everything eve off my system.
any help/pointers would be helpful

My solution to it is to set Windowed, not Full Screen. I can run 4 clients then. Silly patches set it back to Full Screen, and/or other graphics settings, which causes a problem for me when 2+ clients are running.
Details: Problem I have had is this: Client 1 is working fine, launch the second client and then while waiting for the login screen my display starts to flicker and becomes unresponsive. It's like it's drawing the graphics horizontally and flickering while doing it.
Problem: Patch puts client 2 back into Full Screen even though all my clients (4 of them) are all windowed.
Fix: Start each client, make sure all graphics settings are as they were, then launch as many of the 4 that I need.
PC: Dual core Athlon socket 939 2.4GHz, 2GB ram, Win XP, ATI Radeon 9600XT 128MB AGP.
The problem I get often happens with eve patches. For some reason the graphics settings get reset to Full Screen or it's another graphics setting, but by making sure all clients are set the same, that is my solution. I hope it helps some of you.

Edited by: Gvivz on 26/06/2008 21:06:26 What exacly does this patch do for multiple clients?
I have run 2 clients since I started my alt in '05, and even now with Premium Content I can still run 6 clients smoothly... I don't do it often, and I think I can run more, but 6 is the most I've had to run simultaneously. And 3 of those were double-start the same Eve folder. I have 3 separate installs of Eve to run 3 clients and ran each one twice to get the 6.
I am running Windows Vista 64bit, 8gb of RAM, Intel e6850 3.0ghz Core2 Duo, nVidia GeForce 8800GTS 512, Asus DH-Deluxe Mobo. Maybe its the hardware...
All my eve problems went away when I upgraded to Vista, and none of my Eve problems were multi-client related that I know of. The only thing I never liked was login settings, had to change them everytime I logged in a new alt, but I don't have that problem anymore...
So what were the problems, and what was fixed??

The best way to run multiple clients at the same time is to install separate instaces of the client. Also set the Client Video settings to Window mode instead of Full screen. ex. c:\Program Files\CCP c:\Program Files\CCP2
By doing this you will not run into any errors/bugs. For more info hit me up one eve mail NetBlaise or Le Veldspar.

Finally saw my bug report on cache size problems? LOL. Nice to feel like ccp actually reads those things.
Patch seems to work fine for me. But it didn't cure my "out of video mem" problem (see below)
Recap: Used to run 2 clients, premium, windowed mode, with no problems for over two years, on my Desktop replacement notebook (Dual core, 2Gb mem, nvidia Go 7600 256mb)
The evil 1.1 boost patch strikes. Horrible frame rates, running out of video mem with multiple clients (I checked the errors coming out of logserver), lockups for 1 full minute when video mem not found on another client startup(only took 642 looping exceptions before client finally failed and allowed me to kill the task)
Now I seem to remember this was when ccp reorganized the Esc menus. So this likely explains the broken cache size combo box. And probably why, still to this day, I have to listen to station sfx while docked, ON ALL MY CLIENTS, even though I have the Station Environments toggled off. And deal with poor framerates while docked (I suspect environment is still being loaded and rendered in the background and I'm just not seeing it.) CCP I THINK YOU STILL HAVE MANY MORE ESC MENU PROBLEMS TO FIX!
Like Kalmanaka posted, once any task got over about 500Mb of mem usage, I'd start having problems, like whiteout on one client, which only cleared when all clients were relogged. I alway wondered why reducing cache size never seemed to reduce the process size. They'd just keep growing until they errored out. I'd assumed it was a memory leak.
So Emperionic Age hits and still dealing with the 1.1 boost patch problems. Post 1.1 boost patch I now have to run all clients in classic mode to get decent framerates. Last time I'd rechecked this it still hadn't changed.
I can currently run 3 clients at once but only if I log them all in within a few minutes of each other.
At the time of this post I've got 2 clients running for about 1 hour now, normal cache size, with no problems. As a test I just tried to login a 3rd client (a late login like this almost always causes the 1 min "out of video mem" lockup), and yes, I just locked up for 1 minute, so that's still not fixed. I don't mind an error if there's no video mem for the 3rd client, as my card only has 256Mb, I just hate the massive spamming of exceptions, causing total system lockup, before the client finally gives up.

Please note CCP that this patch did not only solve multiple account issues but also decreased loading times (atleast for me) by half or more! ALL loading times except entering space.
I can now run 3 account with decent fps (only 7600gt nvidia and 2gb ram)very playable on the premium client and that was impossible before because memory ran out (almost froze).
Its lightning fast to play now and i have very high fps in stations aswell so alot more pleasant for the eye.
PLEASE never remove this patch :D Finally some good stuff!!

Great patch, thank you.
After my long break from Eve I was unable to play 2 clients on the same configuration (AMDx2 4200+, 2 GB RAM, GeForce 6600wtf or whatever on two monitors) it worked relatively smooth before (although I had a drop in fps back then, but this was bearable - and the occassional "whitening" - effect).
Now, with the new patch - it works better than EVER BEFORE.
I was already considering buying myself a new graphics card, now I can spend the EUR 150,- on a big party with rl friends of mine.
Thanks CCP, great job!
Btw... I found out that turning "use LOD" off makes Eve extremely slow when using two clients. You should update the info on this switch, please... it's a trap, because most of the other switches make Eve faster. Making other applications in windows run slowly and lagged, regardless of running only one or two clients. It also effects the other client if there is a second client running.
Enabling VSync will usually sort that out. It seems to be because the client keeps trying to run as fast as it can, even when the frame rate is already ridiculously high. This hits system bottlenecks you wouldn't normally get when rendering the more complex in-space scenes. Enabling VSync (IIRC the eve settings call it "Interval one") caps the frame rate, and stops the client from running away with all your system resources.

If the 5-10 second lag is only when you're running 3 accounts at once, I'd suggest your PC simply isn't fast enough. If it still happens with just one client open, then that's a completely different issue.
Originally by: Gvivz What exacly does this patch do for multiple clients?
It helps multiple clients because it means the option to limit the cache size actually works. Before, the cache was considered to be set to "high" regardless of what you actually set the option to. This would result in the clients hogging loads of RAM (>500Mb per client).
On your 8Gb system, this wouldn't be an issue. On a more usual 2Gb system, this would result in you running out of RAM, at which point you would experience massive performance hits and frequent crashes. ------- There is no magic Wand of Fixing, and it is not powered by forum whines. |

Originally by: CCP Mandrake How to remove the optional patch without starting EVE, for those who can not start the eve client.
The optional patch is stored in a application data folder under all users, deleting it will effectively uninstall the optional patch.
Optional patch location Windows XP: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\CCP\EVE Windows Vista: C:\ProgramData\CCP\EVE
In this folder you will see another folder called something like c_program_files_ccp_eve_tranquility, If you delete this folder then the optional patch is no more and you should be able to start your eve client normally.
I did this because after trying to install the patch would not let me run the client. after doing deleting that file I still have the same problem. the client wont run at all. No errors pop up, it just like it pauses after you try and run the client and nothing happens. Though the task manager says it is running each time i have tried, so maybe the patch has done something else to the client?
The patch also installed itself into your own {User}/Application Data folder. Mine was located in All Users and a second copy was found in my {User}/Local Data/Application Data directory. When I deleted both and ran the {eve.exe /safemode} shortcut, Eve finally loaded again. That's two whole days of lost training...bahhh. Just because CPP decided to deploy the patch without uninstall instructions.

Quick question about the caching for anyone who can help...
I used to have an option to set this (I set it to low and found it helped with lag).
Now can't see the option, since either EA or I reinstalled client (at the same time).
Tried editing the prefs.ini file (seemed to remember advancedDevice=1 gave you extra options), but still no dice.
Can anyone please tell me how to get the caching option back so I can set it?
Many thanks,

Originally by: Clytamnestra I've had issues running multiple clients. But I'm not sure any of those would get addressed in this optional patch because there's no explanation of what it's meant to fix.
Maybe we can get that before I commit to installing it.
Maybe you can just click the link provided in the optional patch installing window which takes you to the Patch Notes, and explains what this patch does...
It says they've set the cache to low automatically (which we'd pretty much all done ourselves anyway - see the original forum postings) and this: A new instance of the warp sound was being loaded into memory each time a player warps a ship within the same solar system, these instances would pile up until he changed session. None of us having this issue were using sound...any of us that were still replying said so. That said... you may have noted by the relative silence in recent months that server side changes of one kind or another at least for me, who was having huge problems, seemed to have fixed the issue. I said it was most likely server side months ago and explained why on the revelations 2 patch comments page. zzzz
