Seeing that EVE has a playerbase spread out across the world, I thought I would ask what people feel about the candidates for the upcoming US presidential election. So have at it.

Well to be honest I liked Obama from the start, its a recurrent joke over here how worked up people were on the news about Clinton v Obama.
Then deciding to vote for the Repblican candidate whose name escapes me if their chosen candidate dosent win. By polarising the electorate for Hillary V Obama I say well done to the Republicans to sit back and let it come to them.
In terms of Republic policy, I hear that the candidate is someone who is not well liked amongst the party. Due to Bushs abysmal presidency it is expected like Thatcher previous republican supporters will defect to get them out of power. As I understand it he cannot stand twice for the candidate as president, ergo if he looses (as expected) then he can never run for president again.

I lost interest in the policies of each candidate once Ron Paul got kicked out but I'd rather that Obama becomes the next president. As I said I don't know as much about him as I should but I do know that he is trying to remove the influence of lobbyists from the US government (kinda like Ron Paul but to a lesser extent) and he gave a speech on how more African Americans need to act like men and stick with their families rather than run away. he also said that the black community can no longer use their grim past as an excuse to act like thugs.
I care a lot more about American politics than I do about British politics right now as I dislike the current leaders of all the political parties.

I'm from the UK, and I'm completely fed up of the whole thing. There's been way too much coverage of the Obama/Clinton campaigning over here. I don't know why our press felt that we cared that much, but they seemed to be obsessed with it. It's only to pick a candidate, and it's not even in our country! Though come to think of it, I still don't think I could tell you much about any of the candidates, even after all that blanket coverage.
It is interesting to see a bit of how things work over there though, in contrast to here. Here, elections are over in a matter of weeks, it seems odd to have such a long drawn-out process, especially in a country with a stereotype of idiots with a 5 second attention span! It does make me wonder how much money has been spent so far that could have gone to much better use though... - Originally by: Grarr Dexx YES PLEASE TOUCH MY ABSOLUTION

Doesn't anyone else think that Mccain looks like he cant actually move properly and is about to have a heart attack at any moment?
Even if his policies weren't pretty awful I wouldn't vote for him simply because hes way too old.

Well that's generally been the norm for us. Old white guys, which is probably why this campaign has been in more of an uproar than usual. If memory serves JFK was the youngest elected official being 43.

Both sides have horrible policies, but between the two I think i'd rather vote for mccain simply because he has a better past record(obama has alot of...Dealings with racist and rather iffy people).
Just my two cents.

He can't move properly anymore, he was a POW in Vietnam for I believe 5+ years, and lets say they left him with some lovely parting gifts. However if he can withstand that I do not believe his health is an issue for me. But then again I already am represented by Obama since I live in Chicago, so I know all I need too about our local senator.

It does'nt matter which of them becomes president, both will have to deal with alot of baggage. And eventhough they both promise high and low, none of them will follow up on them.
So basicly they are damned if they do and damned if they don't..

Edited by: SoftRevolution on 25/06/2008 20:08:39 I think Obama is probably the right choice of candidate for the dems because I guess Republicans everywhere still think Hillary Clinton is the devil. As a foreign observer it's a little worrying how little middle ground there appears to be between some segments of your society.
McCain worries me because he seems a little gung ho. Don't really fancy Britain getting led by the nose into any more stupid wars. Apart from that he seems all right. Pretty much what you'd expect from his party generally but centre-right enough to not completely alienate half the country. I really dislike some of his positions but generally he seems like a good guy. EVE RELATED CONTENT |

The phrase "the lesser of several evils" certainly does come to mind when speaking about polititians in general, and this year's US presidential election candidates in particular.

Yes, because McCain singing "Bomb bomb bomb, bomb bomb Iran" to the tune of the Beach Boys' Barbara Ann was in no way racist or iffy. There are 10 sorts of people in the world - those who understand binary, and those who do not. |

Like Iran doesnt deserve it...
But besides that, if you think talking to a dictator such as Iran's(honestly, I know his name I just cant spell it )would work you obviously dont take these guys seriously.
And lastly, in the end wanting to start a war isnt exactly racism, it would only be bigotry if it were against all muslims(whether it be physically or verbally).
Honestly I had another point to make somewhere but the forums ate it

No, you obviously dont understand.
If a democrat gets into the presidental seat then you will have changes galore...And since I dont trust the guy it will probably be changes in the wrong direction.
If a republican gets into office(not sure about mccain, but meh)we get a veto fest.
And lastly, since I dont trust either party(obama or mccain) the only thing I can go off of is background and what they believe, but ofcourse nothing will happen so background it is and ill take a vietnam veteran(that was even a POW)over obama.
But I digress, itl be best if we stop yammering about politics, the OP wants what people think of the election, not of the candidates.
