It's not the provocation, I think devs very good knows about this situation, thats why we got FW ( IMHO nothing big ) and on each mmorpg site we can find EVE advertisements... I just dont wanna pay for game which will be ended after 6-12months ( or play with max. 15000 ppl online including 10000 alts and old allys who makes bilions ISK's in each hour ) Please don't write I can specialize in something in 6 months and be good as 4year character... it's true, but Im specialized in one thing he's specialized in 10 things and can do all of them alternately ). In few words, start for fresh pilots it's really hard and not fair and all know about it ( and please dont write about cheaper implants, ships then 3 years ago... it's completely another thing ). I know most of players that's old players and CCP live thanks them and they like this situation ( except lag ), but they quit sooner or later, all or 50% of them...
When we get game with lag like in each other normal mmorpg ( 1sec usually it's much to much, but in EvE sometimes 10min and server crash it's normal ). Why something normal in other mmorpg like max 1 sec ping or normal control system ( like in space sims for EVE - and please don't hand me that story about fact that control system is perfect - it's exact by ubiquitous lag ) it's something impossible to do in EVE? I know you have prolly biggest server from mmorpg's but let's be honest - you can't contain on it.
At the end... I like EVE online, really... that's why I'm writing this post despite my poor english... I want to know your plans, future of EVE because I don't like feelings Im playing in dying game and wasting my time and money.
p.s. sorry for english and if you still think it's provocation please don't respond because I'm really serious.
What am I doing? I'm quitting. I already cancelled both accounts. This one just has a couple of weeks left before it shuts down. My main went inactive last week and I've yet to get the urge to play him again.
I havent't even played this one in days. I'm just bored and waiting on my code to compile.

The question really is...
Will Eve crap its pants when it dies?
I hear that happens with death.
Stinky... __________________________________________________ Sup brosef! Destry's Lounge is looking for a few good drunks - contact me in game.

To the OP:
I just returned to the game, after a 6 month break from it. All I can say is that I regretted not being here for the 6 months. I left to play Lord of the Rings (beta), Pirates of the Burning Sea (beta and release - 3 months) and Age of Conan (pre launch and 3 months).
I'm back in EvE because it is honestly the best MMO on the market!
As for what is in its future? I hope that avatars brings a new dimension to the game, without destroying the current game. I'm actually a bit fearful that avatars will bring in a wave of new players that feel that all MMOs need to be the same. They will cry, "But PvP is too dangerous if I lose all of my stuff". They will cry, "ut what is the end game content of EvE."
I'm probably more affraid of what the game could turn into, then if it satys exactly the way it is. |

Edited by: Rhivre on 18/08/2008 21:21:52 Hmm, I have only just arrived here, having spent about a year faffing around in other MMOs after getting very burnt out in WoW, so this is not a jaded opinion by any means, but nor am I a starry eyed adolescent (at least most of the time :p )
The first few days can, and do, put a lot of people off, its very overwhelming, especially if you get wardecced on your 2nd day of proper playing *waves at Eternal Error*, however, I will say, I have always hated PvP, but now I have a little alt creating all sorts of merry hell in low sec (I have this theory that if I wipe out lots of my ships on her, my other ones will stay safe ), I love the tactical side of it, and the fact I can decide a plan that encompasses more than one thing eventually (for me, specialising in certain types of pvp and support ships)
I have even considered dipping my toe in the dark side of eve (not on this character, I am a fluffy little carebear here, honest ), which is something I would never ever consider in other games, I am actually trying to drag people off to pvp, which is something anyone who knows me will tell you that is not like me at all.
Yes, after 5 years of running, any game will have a lot of people who have been there since the start, a little burned out, and disliking changes, but, equally, there are fresh eyes looking at the whole universe, and when you grab someone into your corp who doesnt know things like a)blowing up acceleration gates is likely to bring concord with all sirens flashing (that might have been me)
b)autotargetting the poor little newbie in the shield transfer ship who is healing you is bad (that wasnt me, but the poor person who did it did feel sorry and sent me some isk)
it brings a fresh sense of fun to the game for a lot of people.
In other games, when I have been burnt out, and seen everything, a new member in the guild etc has made it more fun again, someone seeing something cool, or doing something stupid for the first time makes you a little less jaded, like when you have a kid running round with you.
So....TLDR version:
Eve is cool and funky kk thxbye...its got its zits obviously, but nothing some Clearasil wont fix |

If EvE keeps "dying" like it has the last year the lag will be unbearable! Speaking of dying, there are so many ex-WoW players in game that newbie-channel sounds like "barrens-chat".
I am sure tripple-exp for however recruits new players isnŠt a sign of desperation from Blizzards side. |

The only thing that concerns me at present with Eve is the real risk of an economic depression, mostly due to a downturn in PvP.
The engine that keeps the Eve economy running is stuff blowing up that has to be replaced. In the last year and a half we've seen 0.0 get a lot more static, and my gut-feeling anyway is that new players coming in are a bit more risk averse than those of the past.
The net effect could be a general slow-down in the economy as a greater percentage of players hold onto their stuff longer, and don't need to replace it as much.
That could have some serious ripple effects, making it harder to earn money and replace losses, which in turn makes players more risk averse, and it feeds on itself. If CCP listens to the whines and makes it easier to avoid risk, it could make the problem worse.
That's about as much gloom and doom as I can muster. I love playing eve and expect to for years to come. |

Do these people use some peculiar definition of the word "dying" that's entirely the opposite to what most of the human race think? More active subscriptions than ever, more content than ever, the PCU record being pushed back pretty much every week...

Each year? Each day is more like it.

They could stop development of Eve and leave it the way it is now and the game would last at least another 5 years imo. That said, as soon as something new comes out that isn't a total piece of crap (like everything is these days) people will leave Eve in droves. |

Sov changes should fix the issues of static 0.0 space. Highsec has always been fairly safe as long as you had a decent head on your shoulders - all the recent changes are doing is making it so you don't have to be as intelligent to stay safe.
I'll agree about risk-aversiveness though - I carebear it up in lowsec regularly - I find that as long as I'm smart and keep moving I don't get caught. But a lot of people won't go no way no how. I think if they fix the issues with FW (and buff up the rewards some), and re-do the wardec system in an intelligent way that doesn't turn it into a pay-to-not-grief system, it could go a long way toward getting people into pvp. |

Summer 2004: Eve will surely die soon. All those changes they destroyed the game.
Summer 2005: Game was good last year and yeah we saw record player numbers last winter but Eve will surely die soon. All those changes they destroyed the game.
Summer 2006: Game was good last year and yeah we saw record player numbers last winter but Eve will surely die soon. All those changes they destroyed the game.
Rinse - repeat
We should just develop a whine generator. A dozen wine threads per week for any proposed change. A few extra Eve is dying threads per month. Daily "Low Sec!", "New Player!", "Gankers!!!", "ISK Farmers!!!", "LAG WORSE THAN EVER!!!!" threads.
Content is repetitive anyway and very seldom original. I've been skimming over them for 5 years - nothing new to see here. Don't see why humans have to produce them when computers where invented for such mind-numbing tasks as creating whine threads. ;-)
