Hi
I think all of us with open eyes sight EvE is dying... there is less and less pilots ( espicially young pilots, eve-offline.net page - proof ), and more and more from still playing pilots that's alts ( buyed on forum from guys leaving game ).
It's not the provocation, I think devs very good knows about this situation, thats why we got FW ( IMHO nothing big ) and on each mmorpg site we can find EVE advertisements... I just dont wanna pay for game which will be ended after 6-12months ( or play with max. 15000 ppl online including 10000 alts and old allys who makes bilions ISK's in each hour ) Please don't write I can specialize in something in 6 months and be good as 4year character... it's true, but Im specialized in one thing he's specialized in 10 things and can do all of them alternately ). In few words, start for fresh pilots it's really hard and not fair and all know about it ( and please dont write about cheaper implants, ships then 3 years ago... it's completely another thing ). I know most of players that's old players and CCP live thanks them and they like this situation ( except lag ), but they quit sooner or later, all or 50% of them...
When we get game with lag like in each other normal mmorpg ( 1sec usually it's much to much, but in EvE sometimes 10min and server crash it's normal ). Why something normal in other mmorpg like max 1 sec ping or normal control system ( like in space sims for EVE - and please don't hand me that story about fact that control system is perfect - it's exact by ubiquitous lag ) it's something impossible to do in EVE? I know you have prolly biggest server from mmorpg's but let's be honest - you can't contain on it.
At the end... I like EVE online, really... that's why I'm writing this post despite my poor english... I want to know your plans, future of EVE because I don't like feelings Im playing in dying game and wasting my time and money.
p.s. sorry for english and if you still think it's provocation please don't respond because I'm really serious.

EVE is not dying in my opinion and I would hazard a guess in a fair few peoples opinion too.

I remember EVE dying back when I started playing in early 2006. But no-one's ever written a heartfelt post like yours. Ever.
Never-ever-never.
So when it does die, as you predict and have written on the forums (so it must inevitably come to pass), I'm sooooo going back to Earth & Beyond.

I think I see what your getting at - but Im nigh on certain you are wrong, if not deliberatly. Anywho, I think your point about alts is mute, eve will only die off if - 1) CCP release "eve 2" or something, or - 2) It becomes unprofitable. Having alts paying isnt much different from annother player realistically, and I know new people are joining up all the time.

Edited by: SA Nemesis on 26/06/2008 11:43:35 i think the main problem is that eve is very expensive, the way i see it is that you can buy a game (uk) for say ú35 and play it forever where as i pay ú7.80 for (what used to be) 30days eve time code so in 4 and a half months i will have already paid for a pritty expensive game and in a year of gamin i will have paid over a hundred punds thats a lot of money for a game even the xbox live subscription for a year is somethin like 35 pounds and that lets you play a huge amount of games for a year and its also heaper that is the main problem, people just cannot afford this just to play a game when there are much cheaper alternatives, im not planning on leaving eve but i cant afford to play it EVERY month so i dont get a time code for EVERY month just when i want to play it , and i will leave a long skill training when im off( i believe that skills train when youre acount freezes but just the one you left on u cannot change it) so no im not gena leave eve at the moment but i can see why some are forced out, simple there are cheaper alternatives, eve isnt as yet "dieing" but it may come to that in the long run

We get threads like this every summer.
People look at a graph somewhere and see a dip in the numbers online over the summer months and think thats it, the games in decline.
Then the autumn comes, and people start staying in-doors more, exams have finished, holidays are over etc etc, people re-subscribe, renew, etc and Eve goes on to break the new world record of online gamers again.
Don't be suprised to see the record for simultaneous online gamers reach 50,000 by the end of this year.

1- the stats you are looking at, hope you didn't forget for half the world its summertime and peeps found something else to do.. (what I honestly donno), but around this time there is always a slight dip. 2- Your lag argument holds no barrel, since you compare EVE with other MMO's, which is like comparing apples to Brussels sprouts, they can be both green and thats it. 3- EVE exists now for 5 years and CCP released yet another free expansion, why would anyone put in time and money in a decaying corps?
4- what i really read out of your words is that you find it unfair (oh blimey) that when you start eve you can't do everything immediately, cause, it takes time to learn all_those_skills.....
Maybe EVE is not for you then....

tbh I wonder why eve.coldfront.net removed the "all time" graph again, it showed a clearly visibly decline for the recent months (unprecedented).

Well, when I started there was an average of 20K players simultaneously. Now it's something like 30-40K. So I don't see the decline. And FW is great, and will attract more players if handled right. And that if we don't take into account ambulation, as van Uber mentioned. So, for me, this is not a dead game at all. And when Eve dies, I'll die with Eve
"when the end comes, you'll find me on my capsule"
So do whatever you like. Go to WoW or AoC or whatever. I'll stay here for a long time. ----

You are, as we say in the database industry 'talking a lot of b*llocks'.
Eve dying.
Well lets look at that statement in detail: 'Dying' presupposes a state of transition from life to death, terminating in the certainty that it will become dead. While in the very, very long term this is a certainty, ie: the world will blow up/get blown up/just end, the scope of your comment seems to be in the immediate future. Is this true?
Er, no. Eve, dead? are you saying that there is a process by which the game will no longer be playable/played? What is this process? Because you see a small shrinkage in an absolute whopper of a customer base? I really hope no one ever gives you a job in marketing, your predictive skills are just ARSE.

Edited by: Xparky on 26/06/2008 11:58:06 Here's a theory. All these "quit the game because of GTCs prices/nanos/cloaks/game dying/disconnections/etc" threads are made by CCP employees hoping more people will quit or take breaks. Why the hell would they do that ? Well, ambulation will arrive probably at the end of this year and with it a big wave of new players the server can't handle. So basically they're making room for new players . I said theory . |

As a new citizen and someone who got sucked into FFxi, WoW and tried to escape with LOTR and AOC, I'd like to say that EVE is like a silky smooth breath of fresh air, even if it's older than all the other games I've played. You were asking for everyone's plans, well I plan to enjoy developing my new character, trying new ships, making some isk and generally enjoying myself. Why the hell didn't I try EVE sooner! *kicks self*
All I can see in rookie chat is a constant stream of newb questions (from myself!) when I say stream I mean a raging torrent, all I can see is new recruits everyday. I suggest that a game this popular won't be dying anytime soon. If we all played games because they were the most popular, there's only one place we'd all be right now! |

Wouldn't that also show on the graph of last year? But it really is a pity that they don't have that graph anymore, since you're claim that it's unprecedented is utter nonsense. Eve always has had periods with a little less users online, and the all-time record number of online users was reached just 4 months ago.

QFT. Oh, and as for "no new players" – as someone who spends far too much in the newbcorp chat, I can't quite decide whether to just laugh in your face, or… well… I guess I'll just laugh in your face.

It's an unprecedented decline (duration, quality) and it was clearly visible on the graph. Of course there were periods with "little less users online" before.
But ask the people on coldfront.net why they removed it ...

Dear OP.
I run a bank of sorts for people such as you. It will be an excellent long term investment to send me all your ISK and contract your various items and ships to me. Since EVE is dieing, your items and ISK are now worthless and sending them to me while cancelling your account will save you plenty of money in the long run.
