Probably a transient coincidence. I have absolutely no connection problems with either optional patch.

Quite excellent analysis sir, you must work in IT, your technical troubleshooting skills are amazing. Look, it's optional patch, if it hoses your installation too bad, but next time, don't install it.. or better yet, fix your Windows, it's working just fine for the rest of us.

Originally by: General StarScream i did it tougth what the hey. after it, i disconect from the eve server every 10min or so.
i lose all online status. and have to reboot my wireless usb port, and run a chksdsk. it was fine, and i have never had such problems with eve, the status of the online marker is showing the pc is connected, but it is not, it works, fine as long as i dont conect to eve. i have deleted every thing on my pc where it says eve. and trying to reinstall from a old copy now.
im running Xp
I've installed the patch and have had no such problems. The Reprocess window closes now like it should. I haven't (knocking on wood)had any connections issues for several weeks.

The connection issues which a lot of people were experiencing, was determined to be related to some bad routing at one of CCP's ISP's. CCP dropped that ISP, which fixed the issue for most, but may have caused problems for a small group of others.
I'm certainly not saying it is impossible that the patch screwed up your network, but it is highly unlikely. It was probably a transient problem that simply cleared up by the time you uninstalled the patch. It is also possible that you needed to reboot your client, and installing the patch forced you to do that.
Oh, and you need to be more careful with who you date. And for goodness sake, wear a freakin' condom!

Downloaded and installed the optional patch.
Now when I run my two premium graphics clients on Vista, neither of them crash anymore. But before the patch one of them tended to crash in an hour or two after active usage, but now, no more.
Good job CCP :). ======================== Real men structure tank.

Hope you are ready to pay...
Been using 2 clients on the same PC, pre-patchs and post-patchs. Neither client so much as burped either before or after the optional updates.
If you are 100% certain that it's patch related, and not routing issues as was the case for about 2 weeks, it's time to put up some logs from the game. There are several places where you can upload them, and then link them bac to us here. The logs will show what happened, and where. Just a matter of interpreting them.
It's now a case of 'Proof or STFU.' Care to prove us wrong?

If you read the patch logs at the SECOND "optional" patch you would have seen that it patched a memory leak.
This could cause disconnects just as easily as any routing problem. (Including crashes, BSOD's and hard reboots) --------------- Opinions expressed are those of my own and does in NO WAY reflect the opinions of whatever corp/alliance i am currently part of. |

I'm afraid this has nothing to do with the patch. I had exactly the same problem with the classic client and same OS, but I never downloaded the patch.
The problem was a general connection issue that affected many people, it has been fixed (sort of) by CCP by ceasing to use limelight, where the connection issues seem to have originated.
The fact that this coincided temporally with your re-install is not evidence that the patch borked your, and only your, connection.

Yes it did, if it where not, dont you think i would have had this issue befor? why just after i patched, i mean 10min after. tryed and tryed to fix, it but same thing over and over. deleted eve, reinstalled the core i had, same stuff, deleted everthing, downloaded the new Client, and got rid of the classic, said no to the patch, and everything was back to normal, all in one day, inside the time frame, from i patched to i got rid of it. and i havent had any problems.
so i do think its the patch, and not some happy fluke hitting me in norway, on ym 10mb line. Please resize signature to a maximum of 400 x 120, not exceeding 24000 bytes. If you would like further details please mail [email protected] ~Saint |

DL'ed the patch, no d/c as usual. I did some research and come to find out, it's a result of not using capitalization. Go figure. --- lol.. I messed up.

Originally by: Seinse What I have found to work for me is to have the ping plotter program running in the background pinging the Eve server.
Ok. Here is whats going on.. more or less. Eve is a suprisingly low bandwidth use game. In fact, depending on what you are doing, the connection between your computer/client and the server/Eve may be very quiet.
Depending on a host of factors, hardware and software on your cable modem, router, the local area router, the general backbone connections your ISP plugs into in other words, every bit of the Internet between You and CCP this quiet connection may be shut down or screwed about with in some way.
An odd possible cure is making sure you are in a busy chat channel Help channel, perhaps? , though it can be minimized/ignored. This constant stream of data (and annoying questions) will keep that connection alive in the same way the constant poking of ping plot in a less kludgy manner.
Try bringing this up in the known issues/workarounds or searching for more there, as you are more like to find the clever techy folks who know the techy names for the how and the why.

So let me get this right, after installing the patch it seems like General Starscream is the only one having trouble logging in?
If so I'd say that's a patch well done, now if only the next patch stops you from posting as well.

One of the patches actually fixed a memory problem that I had been having (occasionally) just like it said it would. After recovering from my almost lethal case of shock that a patch actually fixed something like the devs said it would, I found myself to be in a state of approval of this new policy of rapidly deployed "optional" patches.
These "rapid deploy" optional patches seem to be the best thing the devs have done in a long time. They actually seem to be GOOD for the community. It has me quite terrified actually. I am now living in dread for the moment "the other shoe will fall" and everyone's shield and armor resists will be nerfed to 0.

Cheers. *
