Awaiting one of the above and wondering if Eve Classic will run okish on it. I actually got it (rather cheaply - around the same price as an Inspiron 1525) with Poker in mind (whilst watching TV) rather than Eve but it would be handy on odd occasions for Eve if I can get a functional (as opposed to blinding) level of performance whilst running the client - main uses being production, invention etc and the odd reoplenishment trip to Jita (not on Sundays!!!)
Spec is 1.83 ghz Core2Duo (667 FSB), 2Gig 667 FSB RAM, Nvidia 8400 (128mB) Gfx card and the OP is Vista Premium (with which I have no experience and have only heard bad things ). Is there anyone running a similar set-up who can give me an idea what to expect with Eve?

Should work fine. This game isn't really that graphics intensive, except for bugs that make it appear that way. Your main issue may be that it comes with Vista. If you have performance issues, just disable Aero effects and such.

Edited by: 0lly on 27/06/2008 23:54:59 honestly it depends on wether you wish to play eve or just station squat and manipulate markets.
latter easily enopugh former - single client about enough. ,
Not aimed at OP but laptops are NOT...... gaming machines . no matter how much you spend you will always, always. find a better performing desktop for 60 % the price.

My friend dan had one of these laptops.
He's behind me playing mass effect at full settings at flawless fps :)
I tested out eve on it with nhancer pushing AA+HDR, and I found with shadows at medium and AA at X8 it was running at 50-60 fps in space.
it looks great and he only has a 2.2 duo CPU with 3Gb of ram. You can get 4Gb or ram and a better CPU I'm sure it would make the whole thing even better.
make sure you get the 8600 GT not whatever comes stock. Also the screen is 1280x700 that he's playing this at. So if you get a better screen I can't see the fps going down too much in a higher rez. Only isdsue I have with his laptop is it loses color from the sides so it's a one person laptop (maybe 2 more people around it) it wouldn't be the laptop laying movies at a party or such.
Not like my laptop coming in the mail yarr.
Also don't buy without going here.http://www.xpbargains.com/best_deal.php/dell_xps_m1530_deals.htm
wait for a good coupon friend got his off 20% off. which was awesome.

I just bought a 1530 back in February. I was very surprised at how well it performs on all MMOs that I play including EVE. Definitely a good buy. |

Thanks for the info guys. Sadly its coming with an 8400 (128mb) rather than an 8600 (256mb) gfx card installed, but at the price I paid I'll be more than satisfied if it runs in classic mode at 25fps in a non-lag situation.
One thing I'm curious about - the HDMI output. On those occasions when the opportunity arises (i.e the wife's otherwise engaged if I plug it in the TV (32" Sony with HDMI) whats the picture quality like?

with newer graphics card you won't see much if any of an fps increase in classic anymore.
In lots of cases you'll get higher fps in the new graphics.

You can Download the newest Nvidia drivers from www.laptopvideo.com and Overclock your 8400 with Rivatuner 0.28... this card got a very High OC potential increase up to 75%... in FPS...
Vista Premium is a nice OS just give him a chance and dont try to manipulate it.... you will loose...
Upgrade to Service Pack 1 and you will get the same performance as XP :)
And yes, use Premium Graphics, this will run very smooth...
My Notebook got a 2,2Ghz Core2Duo 4GB RAM Vista Premium x64 SP1 and a 8600GS (256MB) Runs Premium on 1280x900 with max settings at 60fps... with clocks (730/1738/533) stock was (400/1200/400) you see the high OC value....
