But he should really petition to get that insurance to money.
nope, after he ejects from the ship , the ship is no longer he's , therefor the insurance payout goes to whomever is in the ship when it selfdestructs m8
practice spelling not that mine is any better

Originally by: Grey Area OK, I can see why the Raven pilot should not get his insurance, but I don't see why the guy who boarded it SHOULD. He has no contract with the insurance company, and if I know insurers, they look for ANY excuse not to pay out.
Insurance should be voided by self destruct, but no way should someone who boards a ship suddenly become eligible for the insurance payout under a contract paid for by someone else.
It's a bug in my opinion, and should be reported as such.
(It's not an exploit unless you try to do it again :))
Its not a bug, this is exactly what the devs put up. We complained about it (pirate community) and suggested that insurance should not be payed to those that self destructed. They ignored us and kept this in. We have now benifited from this so we dont care anymore. He probably wasnt aware that self destruction is delayed by 120 seconds so it gave us ample time to kill him. However in some desperate act of lunacy he decided to eject from the ship. Probably to try and get the last laugh.

Forgive my n00bishness (as I have not done a self-destruct in months), but the game announces to others in the vicinity when a self-destruct is initiated? -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

I'm still in the old mindset that when you hit self-destruct on your ship, it blew up right away, no 120 second timer. As I said, I haven't had the need to do a self-destruct in months. -------------------------------- CCP can patch away bugs, but they can't patch away stupidity. |

Acording to the contract that you sign when you take out insurance, the ship should only pay out insurance if it is being flown by the pilot that payed for the insurance.
I guess as you dont sign up for basic insurance, it does the same thing.
I guess an easy fix for this is if Basic insurance cost 1000k (administration fee). Then it will follow the same rules when it quickly changes owners like in the above sinario.

Very funny, but the guy must be gutted. Out of interest, what was your 'ransom' for safe passage?

What you SHOULD have done was have your guy board the ship and then blow it up anyway.
This way your pilot would have gotten the insurance AND you could have gotten any mods/cargo that it dropped :)
Only thing you would have had to be careful of was using missles so as not to pod your pilot.

What we tryd to do by boarding the ship was getting the free ship+modules, worth alot more :P

Edited by: Baun on 19/05/2004 19:00:21 Yes I know that the ship intact is far more valuable, but I am pretty sure there is no way to abort the self-destruct. If this is the case then you could have at least gotten some of the modules as well :)

If you activate the self-destruct, then "activate" it again, it cancels.
