Edited by: Orlando Orleans on 18/05/2004 07:00:08 Edited by: Orlando Orleans on 17/05/2004 19:30:40 Here¦s a little bedtime story for all you guys and gals out there.
A few of us were lounging near a stargate at an undisclosed location waiting for some customers when a Raven battleship jumps into our midst. After we had politely stopped the ship, negotiations began for his continued journey in the ship.
Unwilling to part with his precious, hard-earned ISK, the Raven pilot proceeded to give us the finger by initiating self-destuct on his ship, confident that his insurance company would of course pay him at least basic insurance on his Raven.
We started pounding his ship immediately so any modules on the ship would not go to waste due to the irresponsible pilots actions. Evidently fearing for his life, the pilot immediately ejected from the doomed Raven and warped away.
We stopped shooting immediately and one of out numbers boarded his ship to try and save this piece of Caldari engineering exellence.
Alas, it was not meant to be for shortly after our pilot had boarded the ship the self-destruct cycle completed and the ship was lost.
Guilt-ridden by his failure to save the vessel our pilot boarded his ship again only to notice his mail and wallet icons blinking on the dashboard.
Apparently the insurance company had decided to pay him the sum of 43.5 million isk for his valiant efforts to try and save the ship.
The Irresponsible Raven pilot got nothing.

you do, however if you only have a basic insurance then u are screwed - it pays out to the most recent owner, and is not name-oriented.

nope, after he ejects from the ship , the ship is no longer he's , therefor the insurance payout goes to whomever is in the ship when it selfdestructs m8

People like him that do not read are why there are soo many people out there ripping others off. When you sign up for insurance there is a non disclosure about the ship remaining insured even if you don't have possession. ROFLMAO What a moron. As long as there are people like that people like me will always be prosperous Kein Mehrheit F³r Die Mitleid |

Technically yes, and by letter of the law yes, but in prinicipal that's just not fair at all.

Look, If the guy wants insurance for his ship, he should NOT self-destruct it and NOT eject from it.
Logic dictates that either of those actions would void any insurance contracts.
He did both...

On a serious note I dont get why people self destruct. Might as well go down in flames and try and take someone with you.

OK, I can see why the Raven pilot should not get his insurance, but I don't see why the guy who boarded it SHOULD. He has no contract with the insurance company, and if I know insurers, they look for ANY excuse not to pay out.
Insurance should be voided by self destruct, but no way should someone who boards a ship suddenly become eligible for the insurance payout under a contract paid for by someone else.
It's a bug in my opinion, and should be reported as such.

Wow....that's pretty funny.
Does seem like a bug tho.
Pilot 1 initiates self destruct, voiding the insurance, and ejecting. Pilot 2 boards the ship, in effect making him the new owner, who has NOT voided the insurance, since he did not trigger the self destruct sequence.
Ship self-destructs anyway, and basic insurance pays out to new owner....
weird...

Part of the problem is that it is obviously not INITIATING self destruct that voids the insurance, but the ship actually blowing up (which is as it should be since you may be lucky and cancel the SD order).
It's the fact that the ship seems to be insured to pay out to "current owner" rather than "owner who bought the insurance" that is the problem, coupled with the fact that something about the ship being boarded makes it forget that it blew up from a self destruct command and so shouldn't be paying out anyway! ========================================= * I'm ALLOWED to cheat. I'm a STARSHIP. * ========================================= |
