use one (or two) per game client, that should fix the problems.
Not really EVE is only using about 20% cpu, this is graphic related not cpu. My old P4 2.2GHz had no problems running two eve clients (Classic graphics) but on a new PC now with Premium (or is the Empyrean Age patch?) it lags badly.
When I undock both characters the FPS goes up quite a lot, but once I dock one of the characters the FPS drops like a stone. The strange thing is that this doesn't happen 100% of the time, sometimes even when both are undocked after a few jumps or operations it drops on both too. Probably has something to do with a session-change causing lag or it not cleaning the memory or something like that.. guessing here.
I hope CCP responds again to this thread and we can help bug test this stuff..

I've been having the same problem. With two clients open, I'll get 120+ FPS with all the options on extreme etc. If one docks the FPS drops to less than 10. Sometimes the problem goes away after I undock, sometimes it doesn't.
Just now I quit one client, so just had one client in empty space, and I was getting about 20fps when zoomed in on my ship. I unticked HDR and it looks like it restarts the graphics engine because instantly I get over 120fps again. I then ticked HDR and it's stays super fast.
This is a bug!

I did yes, changing cpu affinity setting didn't change the FPS from the clients.
I wonder why not many people reply here, I'm guessing 60% of all EVE players have alts and run two clients at the same time, there must be someone around with a similar setup like one of us here and who hasn't got the problem at all or can tell us what they changed. Either they don't do much with their characters, except for mining, research and stuff like that... or they have a powerful system where they don't even notice the FPS drops (maybe from 200 fps down to 60 fps), or they are running the Classic graphic client wich didn't have these problems as far as I know.

Edited by: Aero Zolic on 14/08/2008 11:36:14 I managed to get my two clients to work. I changed cache size in both clients from Extreme to Normal. Premium settings from Extreme to High. Both clients are running at around 60-70 fps. || Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R | Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 @ 3.2GHz | 4x1GB A-Data EXTREME DDR2 800+ | BFG GeForce 8800GTS 512MB | WDC 500GB SATA-II | Windows Vista Business x64 SP1 | FSP BlueStorm II 500W || |

I have had this problem since the inception of Premium clients.
I have never been able to get decent fps across two premium clients - * shadows on or off * cache sizes in every combination * all turret effects on or off * eve voice/audio on or off, etc etc
Right now I have both my clients loaded into the character selection screen. Affinity is set appropriately and I'm getting 32fps on one client and 24 on the other. Currently both running from the same folder but I have tried loading from different folders too. When I move my mouse around and over my character I get a spike to 50fps on the 32fps client and the other goes down past 20......
I have a Core2, 2GB Ram, 8800, XP64.
This game sucks, on top of the terrible lag in performing any task the fps I get just exaggerates the pain and in all honesty makes having a second account for combat almost defunct.
This game has outgrown itself from the meager playerbase of 2005, it needs to be re-written to survive as adding more hardware to the servers just allows for expansion, it doesn't improve performance.

..or they just don't read this section very frequent, and learned to live with EVE's memory and gfx leakage (I've had multiple issues with that throughout the years, no matter what kind of PC I use).
I've had this issue come and go on and off, and simply enough, havn't found a possible trigger. As I don't know what triggers this I found no reason to post it.
Pretty sure first time I got this was in February 2008 or around that. By that time I know I swapped to use classic client as it "solved" my problem. Recently I been running 2 or 3 clients simultaneously, all premium, fullscreen. I used to run window mode and had the issue you guys decribe, with fullscreen I don't. I keep having the client-crash bug when alt-tabing between clients + I prefer windowmode so I'm going to give multiple premium clients in windowode a go again. Will update if the issue comes back for me. |

I run 2 clients in window mode on 2 monitors using 2 graphics cards,Not in SLI mode. Both Clients are assigned to their respective monitors using "Evemover" This is the best method I have found. I assign each client to a different card in the Esc menu.
Before getting the 2nd card and Monitor, I experienced similar Fps problems after alt-tabbing between clients. One time I discovered by accident that If you press the "windows" key and then select the other client the Fps problem is resolved. I was also experiencing lockups using alt tab.

Edited by: raWill on 06/09/2008 00:26:00 I'm not ignoring this thread :)
Clearly this is a client issue if so many players are having this problem.
