Tbh, the interview sounded more like an interrogation of a suspect reluctant to give a straight answer.

Not sure if any of you have seen this link yet, but it gives quite a bit of info http://fragland.net/index.php?page=previews&pid=75 All in all, if what the devs are saying is true and we get everything... eventually, it will make an even better EvE experience. |

I wonder if they could at LEAST Leak the skill tree for some of the new skills?
This would at least allow us to begin training some of the skills to level needed to use some of the Pre Req. Skills new stuff coming up. Take for example the Interceptor required Evasive Manuvering 5 and Frigate 5 before you could train for Interceptor. Had I known a few weeks before the release that was the case I would have already trained the Evasive and frigate skill. This would also serve to allow players to test any potential bugs much faster. tbh shiva is all very well and good, but id rather they just label it "done when its done" and actually do it properly instead of rushing it to get it out and it being full of bugs and bad implementations.
what i wanna know is, where is tech 2 ?!?!?!? afaik tech2 was supposed to be before shiva, and the only things we have had are a few modules and a single class of the elite frigates. when can we expect covert ops frigates and the other tech2 items???

Hmmm, I was really disappointed with this interview. First of all, just to clear things up I'm not a fan boy and i'm not a complainer. I'm just a person who has paid for Eve since the day it launched and seen all of its highs and all of its lows.
This is the first time I've posted a 'complaint' on a board, so keep your flames for the serial gripers. Firstly, I'm fed up with people saying "f*** this this is sh**" because at the end of the day that helps no-one. I also get a bit tired of people unquestioningly following along like a puppy with its tongue hanging out.
At the end of the day, a game is like any other service you buy. When it goes well, you congratulate, when it's not working out so well you need to say something. There has been a really long drought of content in eve. Let's be honest here, what we've seen of TL2 didn't exactly swing the galaxy on it's head. We've had about 25 modifications of existing modules, a couple of hardly used deployables, and then... silence.
This is the first time I'll honestly say I'm really disappointed by this. Not so much the delay, but more the way it was communicated.
CCP is no Sony, but equally we're an incredibly loyal fan base, and we've contributed for over a year to this game. Other games have developed MUCH faster. In the last 6 months for example, SWG has evolved almost beyond recognition and their next 'shiva' style patch will be a full, eve-style space addon. Clearly Sony have a much much bigger team, but Eve is now one of the biggest earning MMOs and they should surely be investing that back into the player base.
More importantly, however, because Eve is a much closer community than a big corporate game like SWG, it's even more important that CCP are sensitive to the views of their player base.
I'm not keen on finding out that the single biggest development to date, that we've waited for for months, is hugely delayed with a simple 'it'll happen when it happens'.
Worth noting as well, this delay has happened not because of a huge technical problem, or because of circumstances well beyond CCP's control, but because they're making more and more money.
Remember, CCP, it's the customers who have already stayed for 12+ months who are the most likely to stick around, and I think you could be a little more open and apologetic than a hard nosed 'shut up and wait'.
Maybe when CCP release EveIII - the Revenge of the Science Graduates they can be this dismissive when conveying bad news... but not yet...

Oh come on BH, you've been around long enough to know how this thing works. The press release was too early. But theyÆre never early enough. The timing of such announcements rarely has anything to do with preparedness. Public announcement pushes the devs and diverts clientÆs attention from other recent happenings.
And just because some random oaf hosts a "new" interview on the same topic doesn't mean there will be any new content. I've read three articles about Shiva now and they were all approximately the same. The devs had already said their piece now let them get on with it. If eve-gate was serious about having some exclusive content in their article they would have waited a couple of weeks after the first announcement.
That's why it amuses me. I thought anybody else with their finger on the pulse would have found the same. ____________________________________________ Ideas Lab - Forum Search Feature - Sign me! |

I won't write anything about other games here, but I will say that Tycho tells it like it is... Oh, and I think that this should redefine peoples ideas about a bad interview.

Quote from the article in this very topic: "The success is however allowing us to add to our team and we are now about 40 people."

This is the only thing in your post that you got enitrely wrong. Eve grew, as did the feature set, as did the demand on the servers.
Money hasn't inherently created problems - in fact it has allowed their team to grow, which will expedite the development cycle.
Is it possible you haven't read the dev blogs regarding the hardware upgrades? If you haven't, please read "A tale of three-phased hardware upgrade" at a minimum. ____________________________________________ Ideas Lab - Forum Search Feature - Sign me! |

What a waste of a sticky.
There are many loyal players on EVE, 10,000's of us but I suspect that many will be a little anoyed with this interview.
It looks like Shiva will be late, very late. Lets face it if its not released before the middle of July its going to be mid/late September before we get it. I belive that Iceland all but closes in August for the summer holidays.
It also looks like Shiva will be a much smaller patch than was promised.
I feel let down CCP, more broken promises and more bull****. Your fast losing credability within the Eve community. I guess it will be some time before we get 10,000 players on a Sunday. Watch as the numbers start falling off as it did least year when no new content was added.
For those that are happy to accept the delay then please do so in such as way that you show repespect for other peoples differing opinion. Hopefully we all agree that that game is great but new content is essential for the game to develope further.
I suppose the good news is that I will be able to watch the European Football Championships in June unhindered by Eve and shiva. For those that like the Olympics I guess August will be the same.

Edited by: Skaz on 20/05/2004 20:33:00 Actually Iceland closes down or has its holiday season in June through July, and the first weekend in August is THE party/get drunk/festival weekend affectionally called "Versl¾" (short for Verslunarmannahelgin).
So I think that June through July will be marked with little communications from CCP, Shiva will be delayed over to late August or September, I say this not because of the holiday season being a main factor but more like because of the current mood of the devs (anyone noticed that they haven't talked about the CSM's lately?)
I'm basing this opinion on the fact that we still have a Castor patch on the way, prob this month... And they are still talking about HOW to implement some things in Shiva?!?!? Doesn't seem that they're ready yet to release anything for testing just yet...
I would love for a dev to clear all this up by replying but, I guess we won't know anything until the CSM's start again ( more like IF they start again)
I mean lets face it the CSM's could be useless but at least we could interact and probe the devs regularly, even if they didn't give us a straight answer.
Someone please prove me wrong on this rather pessimistic outlook for Shiva!
EDIT: Ok it's official I'm THE thread killer.....12 hours and no reply....sheesh

Well, talk about bad timing
This interview was done by me before E3 and Filefront. The Filefront article is based on the press material made for E3. Had it been done post E3 I could have said more and gone into more detail.
Sure, the interview vas the pretty much the definition of 'vague' - but thats the situation we were working with at that time. The final featureset we were going to publish was not yet decided (we had to re-evaluate because of the delay) and playtesting just recently begun on the features that are already in.
We also hadn't decided on a timeframe for Shiva (based on that final E3 featureset) and when we would be able to deploy it. That made the first question rather hard to answer, and it was the only answer I had at that time, since we hadn't even set a timeframe for the delay.
We had some tough decisions to do. Should we aim for a release with a severely limited featureset or delay and keep the featureset pretty much as it was originally? We did the latter.
I'm very sorry about this interview, both EVE Gate and you the players deserved a better one, but at that time we couldn't go into detail.
To make it up for you, I'm going to gather some screenshots and maybe a short video.
p.s. Numskull, CCP is 40 employees with close to 45 thousand customers. SWG is about 10 times bigger than we are _____________________________ I say hey sky, s'other say I won say, I pray to J I get the same ol' same ol. |

Oveur, I have NEVER Paid to play a game this long, I still look forward to logging on and hopefully will continue to do so in the future,
The fact that People are Hungry for more information is actually a testimate to the scope of this game.
All we ask is that you leak as much information as you can so that we can better prepare for the updates in advance.

In my personal opinion, after playing this game for over a year now, and having been let down by the broken promises of CCP, I'm getting to the edge of my rope. I'll wait till q3, but if shiva doesn't come out with atleast what they've already promised, I won't be renewing the subrscriptions to my accounts. Frankly Soon(tm) is really starting to **** me off.

Plz fix the lab slot problem, make each lab station have an unlimited amount and the price is set by how many are rented out in each station per 5 days. Also put the price up from 1000 isk.

i wish they had not used the abreviation "POS"
it means something else to most people, and makes for amusing reading.
For example: "what else will we be seeing in shiva apart from the POS? can you please list the new and updated features that are currently completed for it?"
heh

i probably should've included a note with the interview it was created and sent of on Saturday, April 24, 2004 4:31 PM now that was well before any other information on shiva came about and this would have been more centered on new material but i didnt get the interview back till 1 day before it was posted which was nearly a month later well after the fragland information.
