Just to know... who was interviewed ? Unless I'm an idiot (which might very well be true), there's no mention of who actually answered the questions...

Oveur was the one to supply the answers, with some assistance from Hellmar and other members of the Dev Team.

No offense meant, regardless of the alcohol content in my bloodstream atm, but that article SAID NOTHING.
All it was, was a bunch of vague statements, none of which explained HOW these new "features" will work, just some silly excuses for why the development team hasn't met the proposed deadline. I quite agree that was the single lamest interview of any sort that has slunk out of the doors of CCP's offices in a while.
Believe it or not guys & gals at CCP your player base is gagging for real titbits, facts, information, specs, sneak previews, screenies etc... in short some substance. Those vague statements weren't even a tease, just a waste of bandwidth. We are all extremely interested in what Shiva will really mean, so throw a dog a bone eh?
Is Shiva still so undeveloped that you can't share some more concrete information with us? I can buy the hampered by your own success line but for goodness sake surely you guys have a better idea of what Shiva really looks, feels and smells like than that flacid interview suggests.
Kieron, honestly that interview was crap, not enough detail to tantalise a tastebud let alone satisfy our ravaging hunger....
Edit: to spell Kieron properly

Edited by: Carmen Priano on 18/05/2004 22:00:27 Gah! Can't you guys stop with the whining for a bit? :/
Oveur (with Hellmar's assistance) was kind enough to confirm a fair number of the items we've seen in the previews at Fragland, including the potential for early release of some content slated for Shiva.
Sure, we'd all love a ton more information -- I'm sure every one of us would like to hole up the devs in a room for a few hours and strain their brains. Still, something -is- better than nothing. :p
Edit: Thanks Oveur! :)

Given the tone in that interview (the number of mentions of 'success' leads me to believe they almost went under...) it would seem that Shiva is still a few months away.. possibly 6 months away. Just a hunch though...

Quote: None of the features are "complete" since they just entered limited open testing. I only consider it complete when it has been deployed on Tranquility. We have a number of features that will be introduced with Shiva, but we are porting some of this forward to upcoming patches. NPC Officers, Commanders, new ship types like destroyers and battlecruisers, new rare ships, aggression system and contraband flagging, Complexes, Alliance system, overhaul of the corporations system, overhaul of the contracts system, smuggling and various other content additions like destroyable structure, ice clouds and comets are on the list to name a few.
Quote: We are considering porting some of the systems for earlier release, Officers and Commanders, Aggression system and Complexes along with stepping up some of the TL2 deployments. If and when is pretty much dependant on our upcoming hardware upgrades and if we are happy with the current designs of the system.
Not the light at the end of the tunnel for all those whining around here but better then nothing.

The tone of the interview suggests they might be more than a little annoyed at the constant whining about Shiva. Lay off and give them a break people! (you know who you are)
And you guys release it when it's ready. It's your dream and should conform to whatever standards you desire. Those of us who truely love eve can wait for it.

The success he was talking about, sounded like with all the extra players, like the breaking the 10K mark etc etc they have had problems updating the system and keeping it running, i dont think its because of the lack OF success...

Quote: 1) given that it is almost May can you give us a definitive answer as to if you can/will keep your promise for a Shiva release? No. Shiva will be ready when it's ready.
They still say that about another game that's been forever in development....
I'm really really pessimistic after that interview...
Either they're in a heap of trouble and Shiva is....far far away or they are deliberately bringing down our expectations.
But seriously I think that they hadn't expected 40,000 subscribers hammering them and being so "difficult" to maintain. Meeting the demands of an existing customer base is always the hardest or most annoying thing in business. (Anyone familiar with this phrase: "I'd wish those damn customers would leave me alone so that I could do some work!" )
But they'll do sooner or later, Shiva will come, we will celebrate, cry, whine and complain and they'll be on a new underestimated deadline again.....a full cycle.
Bleh, don't mind my ramblings, I'm too tired to see my monitor and keyboard clearly, typing by memory so I apologize for some of the typos....
But seriously, he didn't even mention Q3 in the interview.....so go figure, they're not even sure about that.
I hate being the pessimist...

Edited by: CrazedMutha on 18/05/2004 23:58:38 That's what happens when you give an estimated release date, everyone expects you to stick to it. The phrase "Shiva still has some way to go" makes me think that it will be released about september time, if that. I presume the ugprades and such put Shiva on the back burner for a while.
And good ol CCP for seeing "success" as a problem, that made me laugh.

Oh FFS, can't some people get a freakin grip? Voicing your concern and distaste of something is not whining, its merely stating your opinion. God forbid I see the day we all agree with CCP and smile when they shaft us up the rear with pointlessness such as this article.
They confirmed some things the fragland article said. woot. Have any of you stopped to consider maybe sh*t like that should have been told to the playerbase long before some craptacular site posted it for everyone and their cat to read? Yeah WTG on dangling a carrot in front of the masses, but the rest of us are paying now, currently, to play this game. And its nothing like what was mentioned, so maybe some more information or communication is in order? Yes?
Did the devs develop comets? Yes. Hell, I've seen them in beta. Did they make planetary rings? Yes. Did they do a lot of other neat stuff? Yes. Have they said anything on HOW its going to be IMPLEMENTED in the current system? Hell no..
And thats why I'm more than annoyed, and I generally favour most changes the CCP crew make. Honestly, they dont have to spill the beans on how POS and other stuff like ice clouds will work, because I'm sure that they are at a point in development where they coded in all this fancy stuff but have yet to make it work in a sensible manner (hence the limited open testing).. so yes, anything they say specifically will probably change and a lot of people will whine that its not the same as was promised..
BUT
Is it so hard to give us a damn cookie once in a while? You *say* a lot of these things will be in, so even if you dont have the flawless implementation in, give us teh freaking screens already. I want to see this with my own eyes before I say to myself "yes its worth the wait", and its not a matter of spoiling the surprise, its a matter of them having proof to back up what is obviously bait for the mindless.
I'm not settling for a 3-6 month wait based upon some silly words depicting volcanic activity and aurora borealis on planets and whatnot..
No
way
in
hell.
Screens, now, kthnx. _____________________________________ Perpetually driven, your end is our beginning. "Can I be a consultant for EVE II?" - WhiteDwarf |

...Limited open testing has just recently begun on Sputnik, our Shiva test server.
OMG! they really call it "Sputnik"?!
Shiva is dammed...that thing (Sputnik) only barely made it out into the universe, shot a few beeb-beeb-beebs and tumbled back to burn in the atmosphere...i sincerly hope thats not the fate of the test server though
only joking, good luck to shiva and the DEVs, give it out when its ready ;)

OMG Q3, OMG!!
3rd quarter is July, August, September. Its practically right around the corner FFS. Considering that the Eve gate broke around 20K years ago, a few months isnt much.

It amuses me that people get so pushy for facts as soon as Shiva is mentioned. When direct questions aren't answered it can only be taken as a sign that there is much work yet to be done.
And this is consistent, because the 'deadline' is loosely defined as a three month window, starting some two months away. If you don't like it, don't read any interviews about Shiva until late August.
As for what I've so far read about Shiva, it looks good. I think CCP are doing really well in terms of developing gameplay mechanics. ____________________________________________ Ideas Lab - Forum Search Feature - Sign me! |

Well people seem to still not know what shiva will include and says the interview tells nothing. So in case you didn't catch the link on the eve-online homepage, here is the Shiva E3 preview link http://articles.filefront.com/46
looking forward to it, i just hope its an update you can download, and not an add on pack you have to buy... |

That sounds like one ****ed off dev...shiva is suppose to be out in may and it sounds like it barely off the drawning board...the whole interview was a waste of reading
"No. Shiva will be ready when it's ready" --if thats the current attitude at ccp then dont give out a date for its release and stop yanking everyone's chains...and the "None of the features are "complete" since they just entered limited open testing" is just too funny...they have no clue how to release this stuff or when so im betting we wont see it till around christmas...maybe we'll get the castor patch by september

Some of the people sticking up for CCP don't seem to realise that some of us have been around since before release, and have grow weary of the "invisible carrot on the stick" style CCP has with releasing things.
I would be fine if it was a visible carrot, but the damn thing has a lvel 3 ninja stealth module on it...
I could care less about the release date IF CCP would as one person said: "Throw us loyal and paying subscribers a BONE."
Don't tell me to read the filefront article or something because while it told me things I wasn't aware of... Asside from some very basic info on dungeons, it didn't really say anything.
It would be like me telling you a new Fantasy RPG was coming out and listing the games features like this:
Sun Moon clouds Grass Monsters Swords Magic Mountain Dungeon Rock Lag Levels 6 playable races 12 character classes
And just leaving it at that. If thats all you need to get excited then good for you... but some of us like to have a little more than a few syllables to rub together.
Some of the people complaining here are some of the more true blue fans of EVE. The reason we get upset is because we care about the game, and CCP so much.
It's not greed. It's not always impatience. In cases like this it's often because we worry about the state of EVE.
We worry if we will be vindicated for sticking with the game in the face of hardships. We WANT CCP to succeed, at least I do...
Anyway this interview was no better than a TV interview with a guy who didn't want to be interviewed:
Q: Can you tell us when it will be done? A: No comment. Q: Can you tell us about the features? A: Refer to the statement we made the other day. Q: Has the patch been delayed? A: No comment.
The only impression I got from the interview was the DEV's trying to put a positive spin on the difficulties they have had keeping up with the influx of new players... And why Shiva is late.
To be honest I have never read a more somber interview with a CCP official before... and it was a bit disturbing...
To put it another way, if they are really as upset with us "Whiners" as some suggest they are... then they really have no business running such a project as this.
Our so called "whines" (which in this case are more like constructive critiscism and a cry for help) on this matter are not over the line. It is something all the other more successful games (be they single player or otherwise), understand already.
You release just enough info to get people excited, but don't spoil it either.
Sure maybe some of you have the patience of a saint... but thats why that cliche is worded the way it is... because ONLY A SAINT could be so patient, and while some of us are very good people, only a small handful can be saints...
I have been playing EVE since retail, and I had to quit EVE to really remember why I loved it. Now that I'm back I am glad to be here, but I still find that I hate how CCP plays games with info like this.
And NO, Shiva will be free... It's not a paid expansion. If it isn't free, I suspect we'll see a huge drop in subscriptions.
It would be MMORPG suicide to charge for a 10-20 meg patch... It's not going to be that big, and most of it will use existing items with new stats and AI and occasionaly paint jobs.
Galaxion > If you drove a car shaped like a thorax women would call you Demangel > Dude... I would call.. Demangel > wait that sounded g@y I bet. Galaxion > Just a bit.

TBH I find nothing at all interesting in that interview. Players are interested in when its coming. Keeping them guessing keeps them annoyed, primarily at the devs. After having been told May, what months ago, it seems to me like the devs are afraid to come forward and say "Look, sorry about this, bit of a delay, but it'll definitely be out by June 12th" or something like that.
But instead, they don't tell the player sod all, then hold interviews like that. Im sorry, its not good enough.
