Why on earth do so many of you think it's a good idea to say GF, when it wasn't one?
Out of respect?? Why should you show respect? What did they do to earn it? Just popping someone is worthy of respect now? Seems like pretty low standards?
To me, a GF is an evenly pitched battle that could have gone either way. That's the *only* GF there is, imo. I'm not saying it's wrong to have one sided fights, that's what Eve is about after all, I'm just saying they're *not* good fights.

If people don't respond after a fight (sometimes including ransom attempts) I like to think it is them trying to see the keyboard through the floods of tears.
Am I a bad person?
I also try to type gf in local in between onevolleying their bomber/covops and podding them. <3 sensor boosters and 720mm IIs.

What did they do to earn my respect? They tried. Even if they walked into a huge trap, that's a whole lot better than the people who get popped one time during their two week trial and then quit to return to WoW. That's not too bad, now is it? _________________

I responded saying that the Cerb that survived was lucky I forgot to overload. WELP, I guess what im trying to say is that it doesnt matter and either way your a fish. I only bother saying "gf" if its actually a good fight. Once some guy popped my alt's velator in his vagabond and proceeded to say "gf". I responded by saying "yeah, I sure came close to winning though."
He didn't get it. _

Yeah... that's pretty terrible. Sometimes saying "gf" is like saying "gf" on a knife only server in a FPS... when you're the only guy using a gun. ------------

ill only write GF if it was a good fight i.e. the opponent used some tactics that surprised me or was a lot harder than expected (in cases were i lose) or were i used some tactics to wreck someones day. However i dont write GF where i gank someone by the same reason i dont write GF when i rat.

GF should be stated from the winner, this allows the loser the time to decide if he is going to be a gracious loser, or perform further entertainment by filling local with bile. It;s only fair to give the loser the option.

In a militia blob that might be handy because some rifters just dont give good fights you know
I would add 'Brosef' to complete the experience.
Ouch, that hurts, you disrespect a proud roleplay heritage and diss the militia... And comfortably hidden behind a forum troll alt.
Sir, know that in the militia, the biggest blobbest megazerg you will ever see is the Minmatar Militia (aka the zerg) and I happen to be one of the chosen few that try and stand against their blob.

I'll agree with that, but I find most fights (actual fights) to be good fun, winning or loosing (or running away like a little girl). Bubble blobs suck so I don't say a word, everything else teaches me something, so its good!
Also, I don't think it matters. Everyone likes to know the other person didn't do it because they hated them, so some kind words either way are always good.

It's not very extraordinary either.
Nor is ganking others usually extraordinary, or deserving of respect, which was my point, and what I was talking about.

The soccer team that stomps their opponents still shakes hands and says "Good Game!" even if it was 26-0.
Gamemanship can work pretty much the same way, but I guess that's player style. Just know that THIS is where I'm coming from when I offer a "Good fight!"
Edit: And yes, my high school team was on the recieving end of such a loss, but they we're good sports and didn't gloat either _________________

This is just one of those stupid things that make no sense, if you loose, it obviously wasn't a good fight, and if you popped them with little effort, there was no fight, you ganked. Something that swung both ways lasted a good ten minutes, sure, but that's not going to happen in eve. All fights are over in a flicker, anything longer and friends are on their way & the balance changes so dramaticaly that it renders "good fight" nonsense.
Too many friends and you all just lag out.
To me, it goes in the same basket as tipping people, complete nonsense. Most people will read this thinking it's part of my post, when its actually my sig :P

I have often said GF when I was on the losing end of an antimatter charge. Reason being: I usually learned something invaluable about ship fitting, combat technique, or just not to make a stupid mistake like that ever again.
So you think I should start saying GF to the industrials I slaughter?

Science indicates that the winner says "gf" first 93% of the time.
Personally, I only say gf, if it actually was a gf. I don't say gf if I kill a Bantam in a belt in a Taranis (unless the Bantam gives me a run for my money).

Edited by: Calvin Firenze on 07/07/2008 06:34:52 "GF" is too standard for me. I generally try to tell them what impressed me, and what I think I did wrong if I lost. I don't turn it into a local lovefest, but I at least let them know I appreciated the fight, win or lose.

If it was just a fight where i died..
Ill still show respect and have fun.
So its more..Sweet blob...or nice Baiting.
Even when you lose versus the unholy blob...you gotta find some enjoyment outta every fight otherwise you end up quitting eve pvp after a few months.
(And honestly things are much better now that not every ship out there is pure ECM fit. nanocrap is much better than overpowered ecm crap)

Well, that does clarify your position for me.
But I have to say, if I get ganked, and someone says 'GF' to me, I don't see how I could interpret that as anything but a '**** you n00b' OR as a 'I believe we have had a fair competition which I have just won'. Both of these makes the guy who says GF seem like a **** at best, or downright moronic at worst.
