After 5 weeks in the game I'm getting a nice track record of noobish mistakes now, I've paid 30 Million for a Photon Scatterer. Millions for a Shuttle (On the Market as well not escrow) and now a couple of days ago I lost my first Raven.
It goes like this.
So you're flying along, your approaching the stargate and a Gurista locks onto you. Now ordinarilly you'd ignore it as it can't scratch you but today is different, you've not had your sugar fix and you want to kill something so you think to heck with it.
Locking onto him you decide to test out your recently changed missile configuration. Hitting the F1 key, you realise in the same instant 'that's a bit big for a heavy missile' and hang on, what's that glued to the front of my ship.
Oh ok it's an Ibis.
Next thing you know....
Torpedo goes whoosh, Rookie Ship goes booooooom. Concord goes grrrrrrrrrrrrr, Iratus goes 'craaaaaaaaaaaaaap' Bobs your uncle, *****s your aunt you've got 108M isk in your Wallet.
Iratus has now learned his lesson, is going back to Frigates and Cruisers and has bought implants in the hope that he can train.
Clue (Rank5) Level 1
Lessons learned.
Iratus is an idiot.
Rookie ships need a neon sign to help negate lesson 1.
2k Gurista's are not worth it.
Insurance is excellent,
Sentries don't do much damage....... Concord does though.
You can still laugh about lesson 1.
What's the stupidest thing you've done to lose a ship?

Was shooting flatliner in a blackbird with torps, I got to close to his hull torps splash killed my blackbird and my pod.

We were fighting CoC back in EC-P8R. I went to get some corpses that were 20 km from the gate with my moa. The CoC squad warped in on me at that moment... Damn my passion for corpses

I used to lose ships to being AFK.
Lost a tempest that way, and have lost countless frigates and cruisers too. I get distracted easily. I hear people with low intelligence do

My most noob mistake was leaving gang at the end of an op, and turning on my afterburners to dock at the nearby station.
Only problem with this was that I acidentally turned my my smartbomb instead, and damaged the ship next to me.

I flew in front of Lord Zap a few days after release; my corp description was 'bounty hunters', I guess he didn't like that.
Little did I know bounty hunters don't have any tools to use to make a living, and that someone like Lord Zap would take offense to someone calling themself a bounty hunter when at the time; he had the largest bounty on him of any player in the game by far.

Several VOTF members (Including the Darklord himself) lost battleships yesterday when the server crashed while we were busy killing Seraphim spawns. Prehaps the silliest was when the server came back online and the survivors rushed back to the belt to assist corpmates stuck there but not destroyed, only to have the server crash AGAIN (this is where Xirt lost his BS).
Fortunantly, the GMs were very helpful and restored the ships within an hour of the incident. The new ships even came fitted with the mods that were destroyed.

So it goes like this!!!
My corp buddies is mining, i'm hauling for him in a 0.5 system. As i'm on my way, 1 jump out, he says
Buddy "have you got your guns on"
Eddie "No... I'm in my 'Go-Slower'... no guns"
Buddy "Get guns before you warp in... Rats"
Cool thinks I, I'll grab me Kes' (as it was in the system i was in)
Two mins later I'm in system... So gang warp in hoping to find some action.
As a drop out of warp...
Buddy "PK Run"
Eddie "What's a PK?"
Buddy "Just run"
So I hit Auto pilot (forgot to set couse home) Clicks on... and then dis-engages
then I take my fist hit... not sure what it was but it wipes out my sheilds. I select a jump gate to warp to, Frig starts to line up for warp when a cruise takes out all but 25% of my hull and knocks me for course again.
Not sure what happens next but suddenly i'm in pod. While I'm laughing about this and try to work out what to do. the PK pods me!
Lessons learnt?
1. Always have insurance
2. Never Warp right on top of a fight
3. Always and I'm Always check local and see who's in.
4. Forget CONCORD unless you're in 0.8
5. Eddie is an Idiot
6. Being Podded is the best way home if you have no implants
And the worse thing is, as I was on my way back in the system with my hauler i meet this PK at the gate, in his pod. and now his has a sec rate of -5.5, so he's KOS. So what have a got on my hauler? a Miner II...

Happily flying my Moa across a few systems to go play in 0.0. On my way through Kisogo I happen upon 2 smack talking fools. I say nothing and fly past on my way watching local chat as they try to incite someone in to a smack fest.
After realising I have left my ammo back in station I have come from I decide to go and pick up, only 4 jumps so no big deal. Again jump into system and the local is alive with the smack fools.
I approach the gate which they have called home
(the next part was hard for me to write knowing all the rules of engagement, except for the one about engaging your brain before making said mistake)
I got to within 5k of the gate and thought I would pop off a few rounds just to leave an impression.
Well the impression I made was the gate locked up and the sentry guns fragged my ass
So in escence these guys dragged me down to their level and in the process I lost my ship, lesson learned.

friend of mine was flying his 2 accounts around in a frig and an indy, got bored and decided to fire a bit at his 2nd account (indy) while they were both approaching a gate. result: he accidentally killed his indy because he had cruise in his launchers and didn't notice, and concord ganked his frig cause his 2nd account was in a newbie corp.

Have my share of silly ways to loose ships 
One time I was mining in a 0.7 system and in local a noob asked for help against some pirates (NPC rats), as the friendly neighbourhood spider I am I react and warp in to his belt armed with ogres.
My Thorax must have looked like a mighty sight to that noob guy trying to fend of rats with his small drones....
So I let my dogs out and start locking targets, I knew there was 4 npc rats there and started locking.
And release my helldogs... in the confusion I don't notice that I lock one of his small drones and even that my helldogs stopp attacking (as there was no enemy targets left) I send them attacking the drone!!!!
Next thing I notice is that Concord is coming and web me and shoot me to pieces... 
I make an appology for shooting the drone to the noob and he kindly picks up the 4 miner 2's and 4 co-processors I's I had lost.
And even joined our corp as gratitude to my kindness

Now I have something, too:
My alt was in noob frig, and because he was the first one in list when they scattered those jove parts around, he got them. well, brought those to my main char. so far nothing special.
Then I thought: hey, let's see how my new maller does against player rookie frigs. So I parked that velator somewhere in front of Station in a .4 sector I was in back then, ejected and relogged into my main. Started, locked, and shot. I think I was able to fire about 3 times or so. Then those 2 sentries got me, the Velator survived at all :P, gladly I had enough security status already not to drop below 0.
Lessons learned:
-even if it's your alt, that makes him still a completely unrelated person to your main
-Sentry-guns do hurt cruisers, even when there are only 2 of them
-do experiments in belts or with corp mates

While trying to activate my afterburners my finger missed the alt key and I ended up activating a railgun and brought up the targeting reticle. No problem, I thought. I'll just click on the jump gate to get rid of it. Dunno what I was thinking that night but I totally expected the sentry gun assault after I realized what I did.

A member of our corp, after a battle engagement, warped to a safe spot, then ejected from his ship, to go look at gate in his pod. Unfortunately, his skills were the only thing holding his 100 mill isk Battleship together. Boom.
Much source of amusement for a very long time now for the rest of us.

i'm sitting in 3L3 at the north gate with one or two other Xetic buddies. I log and go have some dinner. Log back in and think 'hell, theirs alot of peeps in local'
My scorp is just aligning to warp back to its previous position before i logged
right click, show info on a few peeps in local
'ahh, whos this, em, hang a sec... M0o? EVOL? WTF?'
right click > stop ship
'cannot navigate while in warp'
I was met by 20 or so battleships at the gate
so tip... either 1. Warp to a planet, THEN log or 2. Never eat

Was out scouting the jk-fix region (now querious) in my brand new megathron. I was one of the first down there in a lvl2 bship, on the way home I met a corpmate (in a hauler) at the kaira(0.3) gate to ashmarir, he locked me.
Me feeling feisty activated my nosferatu on him.
- You have initiated agression against blahaha,
Sentries start to shoot me, I warp to sun with 20% hull or something (was damn slow).
Autopilot is on... I warp back in panic - and die :).
Corp-agression was a *****!

I was in Yulai. I had just bought 3 Giant Secure containers and had them loaded up in my badger (with some equip in the containers. named cargo expanders on the ship, etc). I undocked from a station and went afk for some reason. Some idiot in a scorp had killed me. He said he was attacking someone he was at war with and I purposely blocked his missles with my badger to keep him from killing the person he was aiming for.
i lost about 5M worth of equip.. :( i was sorta newb at the time so it hurt.
honestly, the reason I posted this was so I could publicly make fun of him. The idiot lost his scorp so it was worth it.. but why would anyone fire a volley of cruise missles so near a station (i was sitting outside the station, maybe 2KM from it)? and then think i could somehow position a BADGER Between two people to block shots?
ok so.. i guess i posted a story for someone else who made a stupid mistake :)
worst thing I've done(pretty boring). I went after some 45k rats with a corpmate in my moa. some Caracals, Kestrels, etc. I was set on taking down this group of NPCs at all costs (no idea why). There was one Caracal left like 5km from me, I couldn't keep any distance between me and the Caracal for my defenders. Just one shot after another I couldnt' do anything about. There were also a few smaller rats circling me from the same distance, probably kestrels doing a good amount of damage. Anyways, I knew I was going to lose the fight, I could've ran before it was too late but didn't and died. My corp-mate told me to run and I responded "I CAN TAKE THEM" with soemthing like 20% structure left.
sorta related. Last night I left two harvester drones at a mining site :( went to get a hauler to haul some ore, came back and they were gone.

Apoc to a npc spawn at time of death there were 2x8.5k rats and 4 heavy crusiers
its funny those 5 km smartbombs you think go 5km to kill a rat orbiting the frig jamming you at 4.7km...

I lost a Stabber to Serpentis, got a new Stabber and did some mining. In Local a fellow noob corpie needed help so here I am in my second ever Cruiser. I lock the lil rat and fire. Watching the lil speck of light streak toward another spec of light that had no box around it din seem all that important.
It hit, the CONCORD came and pwned me...
Most expansive Bloodclaw I ever owned...
And this all happened 4 hours after I lost the first one...

My friends first day on eve, so I travel 15 jumps to meet him in my thorax to show him a nice shiny cruiser and get him instantly addicted! :)
We're hanging outside a station and he locks me. Now cause he's been in the game ten mins, he's got nothing to loose, so I thought it would be funny if I didn't warn him about concord.
Well he shoots, concord shoots, he discovers he has a pod.........
Then...... I realise concords shooting me too?? I'm in a pod....
Its a noob system, so noobs everywhere are looting my cans, so i quickly dock and get a ship, undock and I'm in a pod again..... 
Lost my ship, 8 Ogres, 5 miner IIs and rest of mods!! lol
But CCP refunded everything in a couple of days!! Nice.
Then I lost my thorax again for real becuase I got angry and shot an ore thief!! Doh!

2 nights ago in xetic space in my inty. I see lots of peeps on local and head to a gate on autopilot to get out, at the gate I see an Indy. I lock scrmable and web him and procedede to knock down his shields and armour. I ask for a extortionate randsom in the hope he has rare mods.
Usually I put a time limit of 30 or seconds on but it was early morning and I was tired. After several minutes I suddenly realise that he must be getting help and I open fire again as 5 BSs jump in from next system. I decide to stick around till he dies as a punishment.
Yarr I cry as he explodes. I click autopilot as the enemy get locks. I wait patiently as the heavy neutrons rip my ship to shreds. WTF?. I had autopilot set to the system the BSs had come from, the gate was 15km away.....
Suffice to say I was not amused. My 1st interceptor and I had only managed to get my 1st bounty that morning (another funny story but not for here :P)I managed to dock and figured I would run for it in the morning, I was desperate to keep the bounty and my clones were expensive.
Well 3 systems out I was podded. Lesson definitly learnt-set auto pilot to a decent destination
The autopilot had also made me miss 2 indys earlier on, as i locked and proceded to scramble I jumped out...

My stupidty lies in trusting any element of this game to work when needed :)
In a new megathron - unequipped due to just returning to eve after a 4-5 month absence. I had to make the trip into curse to pick up all my uber weapons and mods. News on from the corp and suchlike indicates a large CA blob directly in my path. Noooo problem - ill watch the map and avoid them. Anyway after waiting 3 jumps away the blob on the map hadnt moved..... so I thought I'll take one more jump and rest a while.....
Jump > webbed scrambled and slowly buttf*cked to death my the CA blob apparently 3 jumps away according to the map :/

Ok I have a couple one is mine and one is a former corpmates. First mine.
1. Join game.
2. Do tutorial.
3. Undock
4. shoot station for fun.
5. Get ganked.
6. dock.
7. Undock
8. Repeat 5,6,7 for about an hour.
My corpmate's though is priceless. This is along time ago when lag could be really bad. This particular night the lag was so bad we left our home sustem for another. Then a bit later this corpmate logs on.

Us> Eddie, Vaankalen is REALLY laggy go somewhere else.
A few mins pass.
Eddie> Hey guys I'm mining but the the ore isn't going to my cargo?

well most stupied way i lost a bs is.. standing with scorpion a a gate bored.. thinking ahh lets se how good these smartbombs are on the npc..
and ofcourse i was to close to the gate and the sentrys started to shoot me..
but i got away first.. so i stood there thinking how long was it the sentrys rememberd agression??
and after 10 mins i didnt have patience to wait anymore so i started the autopilot.. i saw my ship warp.. but heres the thing yeah the sentrys where stil angry and yeah i saw my ship get out of warp 3 times and me turning on mwds 2 times and then blowing up 4 times..
lesson learnd was dont play when the internet all over the world is fubar because of a virus attack

Funny thread! Ok, in my stupid moment I didn''t really loose my ship, although I thought I did. I had logged out to take a shower. Logged back in, and my Megath was gone! I was back in my Rax! And why was I still training gunnery 3? What is going on?
I was just about to file a petition when I realized I had logged into the test server.

My friend and me undock both at the same time in a 0.4 system.
I laugh a bit at his Executor, because I was in a Thorax. And then I decide to hit my smartbomb to tick him off, only: the station was a bit too close....
Before my friend had seen that sentry guns were locking me, he decided to do the same.
Result: 2 pods :) |

Basically sentries that got me whilst being a nub...
The first one was on my first pvp experience..we went pirate hunting in a fleet..dude in a shuttle warps in..I go KILL KILL KILL..and die in 5 secs (thorax) :P
The second one was just 2 weeks ago..I was utterly bored in fountain, came back from a agentmission and remembered the nice glow the webber created when webbing a gate..
mmhh..that station looks awfull big..bigger than a gate at least..would create some nice glow. Me locks the station, engages webby...GLOW..zap zap zap..krrrrggg...hello pod! Sucky thing was I had 250mm protos on the rax and what not lol..the locals who saw it had a laugh though...as did I hehe. |

i lost my first ship the other day (raven) cos stupid grim thought it would be a good idea to engage us 5 vs about 10-13 people :/ ne ways i had a nice long list of people who attacked me

I lost my Raven yesterday because I assumed there was only 1 Zombie Tempest, 1 Zombie Scorpion, and a Zombie Interceptor (and their ever-present accompaniment of scout/orbiting alts) at the gate. Quite happy to engage those 3 in a Raven I jumped into Amamake and discovered this waiting for me:

dotn feel sad viceroy i lost more then just 1 cruisers do tue incidents like this ,
one of my least joyfull moments would be times in the past i had ppl eject from their apoc and i was looking at the last 5 missiles impact and pop it  .
lost about 3 bbs with an alt becouse my mate forgot to turn a few of his ajmmers on in time

hehe mine was pretty funny.
I had recently purchased a tempest and stole a sweet tank setup off another member of CoD 
Deciding that I wanted to put it to a real test having beaten a few of my corpmates in pvp easily I Decided tyo try and take on some big cruiser spawns at close range with 800mm artillerys and no missile launchers
having beaten off a few 4-5x big cruiser spawns I warped into a belt in LEK.
there I found an UBER SPAWN
were talking like 12 cruisers and the same number of frigates.
I had the opputunity to warp............
I could of easily escaped............
but NOOOOO I just had to do it, I just had to take on the biggest group of high end cruiser NPC's I had ever seen.
I nailed a few and then they nailed me 
IU still maintain If I'd just been able to kill that one more ship my sheulds would have stabalised
Well.......... mebe next time

Back when I was a 2 month old n00bling, I was on the threshold of true greatness; I had amassed the unfathomable sum of 80m isk and after much work found a corp that could actually sell me a mighty Scorpion class battleship!
For weeks I had worked like mad;
I had ninja mined in my Imicus,
I had hauled ore with instadock bookmarks,
I had afk mined Omber in a huge 0.2 belt with my indy as I slept,
I had mined Kernite at gunpoint with basic mining drones,
and my eyes would bleed whenever I set my eyes upon an asteroid.
But it was all worth it -- by commanding a battleship I had become one of the true elite pilots in eve. Let the puny mortal pirates in Obe tremble beneath me in fear of my mighty Scorpion!
On that fateful 2nd trip in my Scorpion, I set out for 0.0 space to hunt NPCs with the most powerful rails available in the universe: 250mm rails. Since I was still getting the hang of equipping the Scorpion, I was going to take it easy, so I warped to a belt in shallow 0.0 and engaged a small squadron of 4 Osprey NPCs. It was a walk in the park -- or so I thought.
After killing 2 of them my cap was at 60% and shields at 75%, so I engaged the medium shield booster which had the effect of instantly draining the cap to 20% and the shields to 25%.
Not quite what I had in mind, but no panic since there were only 2 Ospreys left. Still, just to be on the safe side, it might be a good idea to engage the MWD to get some distance and regroup. The MWD failed to fire a single cycle, but drained the rest of the cap (and not a small portion of it) for the effort.
Slight panic, but the situation wasn't critical -- even without the shield booster and MWD it should be more than possible to kill them before the scorpion would start taking hull damage. I waited patiently for the capacitor to recharge for a few shots of hot antimatter rounds, but found that the first turret I activated drained the entire cap without firing.
As the 2 Ospreys were chipping away my armor I realized that infact any module would fail to activate and drain the entire cap. Not too long after I found myself in a brand new pod barely being able to afford buying back the Thorax I sold to get the funds for the Scorpion 
Despite that the infamous cap bug and the shield booster bug were major problems at the time, the GMs couldn't help since in EVE you're guilty until proven innocent.

I lost a ship the other day just plain unlucky when I warped my Punisher right into the middle of a bunch of 6 Guristas in Moa cruisers
But for just plain stupid you cant beat my first ever ship loss. I was fairly noobish just got myself a Punisher. Went off to do agent missions mainly courier work in Med sec space. On the way back from my mission I mistook someones -0.5 sec status for a -5 sec status and locked him up and shot him. Cue Concord warping in a toastng my ship. Back to station in my pod and time for another read of the rules of engagement.

ok about a half hour ago I lost my raven decked out to a very stupid move. I was just undocking to let a player that we are at war with shoot at me in his interceptor and I locked him and went to fie a gun and fired missle and to my surprise cruise missle hit station and sentry guns took me out I did get my pod back in station but that hurt for sure

Well, my story starts like a few of the others.I head to a .2 system rdy to hunt some catz that were pestering one of my mates. I was in my rupture followed by a scorp. We are 2 systems away and jump into ibash one system away from our destination. As i sit at the gate i looked to see if their is sentries.. i didn't see any.. well i see one of these catz jump it.. so i am like KILL HIM!!! lol i lock the target fire 3 cruise and unload with my galiums 720's as i'm laughed that i killed his ship... and gloating and yelling voer local not to mess with us.. i look down at my ship's health meters.. so see my last bit of 25% hull left wtf!?! wtf!?! Auto warp out!.... BOOM as i sit there .. staring at my local gloats.. i went from happiness n glee too crying n having to dock.. it was fully insured but i lsot about 3 mil in mods.. was my first real pvp experiance n i got owned.. as i looked back to .. there was 2 sentries.. one was hid by my local n the other by gangm8'z.. =\ talk about going form feeling like the leet killer to.. the super noob.. not to mention i wrecked my friends "hunting" and made him turn right around n jsut head back home 8 ju mps....

I was casually flying back from an agent mission in 0.8 space when i decided so see if there was a rat base or something in the system. i asked in local and then discovered it was at planet 3.
So i warped to the location thinking "0.8 space, 2k rats FFS. ill just see whats there"
jumped in saw a rat targeted it....next thing in in an egg. Thinking wtf? I just been ganked by a player? Looked round nearest person over 300km away...?
Check info on the rats. Er...30k rats all 7 of them lol.

Corp member recently got a Megathron. first one. weve all been working towards it just before started with mine. so, he decided to go and mine in EWOK, a 0.0 system. ON HIS OWN!!!!!!
Boom, one uninsured Megathron gone!!

The funniest thing I saw was during the beta.
One of our pilots was in an indy full of Bistot warping to a gate that was 130au away and was asked if he had an item. He opened his assets to take a look but I can't honestly remember his reply.
He closed the assets window only to see himself in a pod at the gate.
We were all laughing so hard after we heard his reaction on teamspeak.
Reason ? There was a bug in the game back then causing you to eject if you opened your assets screen in space. He had opened it while his ship was recharging for the next warp jump on that long 130au haul.
