Usually the first thing that pops into my noggin at the time, so no theme just randomness. 
Examples:
Tristram - Tristan
Spank U - Incursus (used for our corps Frig wars comp going on atm  )
Hairdryer - Vexor (amazing how many other people i see with the same name lol)
RaxMobile - Thorax
Brutal - Brutix
The Don - Myrmidon
MegaBrew- Megathron
iMine - Exequror
Savaloy - Iteron (no idea what was going through my head at the time lol)
Training for Amarr atm will be interesting what i come up with for them. :P
Edit: Spelt Amarr wrong :P

this is kinda what i do, but most of the time, i just put something like "USS Megathron" or "USS Myrmidon" and sometimes i put the number of that ship type, like if it was my 4th megathron "USS Megathron SoF-4" sometimes i will put names though, like my thorax once survived a gate camp a GATECAMP (i know probably a shitty gate camp, but still, lol) so i named it from "USS Thorax Sof-2" to "USS Defiant Sof-2B" (since it defied that gate camp and lived) and actually has survived through quite a few other things, like the Caldari "Fleet" above Luminaire, i went there when FW starteed and when the rats spawned, i killed a BC pretty quick, but then i decided why not try to take on a BS, so i went to a BS who i thought was attacking someone else, and locked and fired, and him and like 4 other ships started firing on me i warped out w/ 20% structure
so, pretty much, a plain name, and if the ship does something special for me (like the USS Defiant Sof-2B) which i recently lost in a corp war (before i joined FW) it gets a new specialized name

Battle Cruisers: Birds (Danish language)
Battleships: Danish Kings in correct order
Capitals: Poets and writers
