Tell her you were drafted and that you may never see her again? Alternatively you could do what comes to mind first. Just going up to her and asking her is only a good idea if you think you can be that forward for the entirety of the relation ship. Another idea is to find an excuse to talk to her preferably when she is with her friends, get them to like you make sure to pay more attention to what seems to be her "best" friend than her (at first only ofc).
Best advice I can give is; do not do thing you won't/can't continue doing as the relationship progresses. If you aren't willing to always go that extra step to help her with anything you can sometimes even before being asked don't do it to get her to like you etc.

Best way to meet a girl ever: Get into a car accident with her.

I didn't know that until after high school though, and when I thought back I realized how many missed opportunities I had(and there I was feeling pathetic for being stuck single). Guess that just shows I had the emotional sensitivity of a brick.

This has a lot to do with self - image as well. Our culture often tells us the lie that one has to be a superstar, rich and / or extremely handsome to have success with women, which is far from the truth.
All one needs is personal and sexual confidence, an interesting life with passion, friends, social savvyness and a masculine self image.
"I am enough" is one of those beliefs, because it usually holds true.
Nail, head, it was hit. Then again in some cases poor self-esteem can trigger a nurturing response in some girls/

In my experience women with low self esteem tend to attract only a certain type of men with low self esteem. Namely those that abuse others in-order to feel in control. When I said nurturing I meant girls who already had a sort of motherly instinct. Y'know the same ones that enjoy baby sitting or want to be nurses.
