It came to me in a flash of sheer inspiration, lets get rid of jumps gates.
I hear you stand back and ask but why?
1. It seems many don't want gate campers in the game so no gates no campers. 2. Travel nobody wants to take the time to travel as its such a ball ache, so just have an auto warp to destination, i.e. Belt, planet, station. 3. Everyone wants guaranteed safe passage, well with this there is no passage to worry about.
What do you think, I can see it being a great idea!!

Seems that they're only there because otherwise the map would be far too big... how do you intend to overcome that?

it would also amke 0.0 mining safe as u can jump out mining and then jump all your ore back into 1.0 sec space

Well they could fight with other PVPer in special systems where there would be 50 gates in so they could camp all they like. -----------------------------

This happens now pretty much anyway with insta jumps. Ok make it take a predetermined time to cover an distance between systems. -----------------------------

If you dont want gate campers stay in 0.5 systems and above or find an isolated 0.4 where the majority of pirates cant get to.
If you go to a system that is 0.4 or below you do so at your own risk.
Pirates are as much a part of this game as anybody else and are as important part of the community as anybody else, while they are a pain in the arse at times destroying the game for them isnt what needs to be done.
Making everything instant would also destroy the whole feel of EVE, it just feels big because of the time it takes to move around, it felt huge before super-highways when it could take upwards of 20 jumps to get from one capital system to the next.
There may be a large community of non-pvpers but there is also a large community of pvpers so dont say everybody wants safe passage because they dont.

not true u can easily take our industrial hauling ore in 0.0 by getting then when they try and warp off from gates. if u think transporting ore in 0.0 is a walk in the park your in denile

I have 2 words for you "jump drive", yup, soon no one will be usuing the gates, well, besides noobs, Ganksters whinge about jump drives and Insta's (as always) and the universe may be a better place.

Your right, it does seem like this is what many people want... Really a single player game they play online..

Jumpdrives, will if they enter game within the next 2 years, only be fitted on Titans, or special Battleships, not on indys, cruiser and frigates, so you gonna need gates So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

Come on, this is nothing but ranting .
There was a discussion, and clearly has been around before, about instajumps. In which it was pointed out by both sides that it does'nt affect gatecamping (which it does :P). People want their fast travel measures, and want to have that chance of escape preparation can bring. Can't blame them for putting their vote for instajumps. If you take those preparations (in the form of mobile warp disruptors)offered to you by CCP, you'll have an even better chance at catching them.

Actually I think its a pretty good idea.
Get rid of stargates - they are too obvious chokepoints.
Introduce - in addition to Warp - also Jump drives for very-long-range travel.
Plus a set of anti-jump technology with ~au sized range.
The basic jump routes remain - but instead of targetting the StarGate in *this* system, nearby systems would directly appear targettable - with a range listed in lightyears rather than puny AU :P
In terms of PvP and piracy :-
Players still have to go to asteroid belts and stations to get business done.
Plus one could additionally imagine that our ships would be extended to have an multi AU sized radar that would provide enough resolution for us to "Warp to this ship *now*".
This would make PvP far more dynamic. Enemy ships entering a system would: 1. Have to be detected at multi 100 AU range. 2. Would have the option of using sloaking devices to reduce their long range detectibility. 3. Could be intercepted / chased at great range by interceptors with massivly faster Warp speeds.
With stargates acting as absolute chokepoints - it is not only impossible to "run" a gank fleet at a gate (without instas and probably with a low chance of success with), but also to attempt to finesse your way past by running silent as it were.

The activation of JumpDrive - and "Arrival" in a new sector would implicitly be a node change. Standard loading screen and all.
Its just that the departure and arrival locations will be arbitrary.

this is a really stupid thread imo, how about we just take all the weapons out the game, have all ships fitted with mining lasers when u buy them.... maybe even take out npc rats too so u can mine in peace and harmony?
