Hello McFly, /me rapps on the 3" thick brain pan...
For the benifit of the clueless, Sisi is up according to internal test criteria and they are nice enough to let us test on it.
Although it is beneficial for them to allow us to test on it, it is by no means required.
Some people just take to many things for granted.

I'm kind of disappointed jefftradealt, for somebody who obviously needs the service we provide with our Test Server you haven't created even one bug report.
And please have the guts to post with our main if you want to troll.

Would be great if CCP answered other, more important threads so fast. Some of them is 7-8 page or longer without any response. So:

nice research that's quite a while ago that I've posted that, but I don't agree we in QA trying to get as many people as possible to write bug reports and if somebody trolls about the test server downtime and is just using the testserver as a fitting tool its kind of disappointing for us.

Should you talk about the Game Design discussions - look at my (now activated) signature, I'm a QA Engineer not a Game Designer, use the dev-finder and you will see that I answer a lot of threads which are related to technical or QA topics.

Why would he, it's not going to be fixed for a minimum of 3 years and then when it is it'll just break 10 more things because of the fluff patch it comes attached to.

And just staying silent will result in the bug never being fixed. Yes, I can see the advantage of that

If u took the time to search my main, i could take the time i was posting bugreports. After my bug was not fixed some months and the only answer i got every time was more info(but more info was not possible) i decided to forget your bugreport system :)
But i agree the testserver should be for testing the game mechanics and code, not for fitting, and is down so long as need to be. not important because is not for gaming

I have to agree people shouldn't be whining about test server stability, downtime, or anything else about it.
It's there to test game mechanics and patches before they go live. Not for people to test ship setups and practice fighting, doesn't mean people can't, just not what it is for.
However, sadly, I have not submitted a bug report either

Its for us often not possible to reproduce defects which are related to hardware or the OS, which means that somebody spend a lot of time into the bug you submitted but couldn't reproduce it, lets say because of a minor difference in the configuration of the OS. Lets say everybody who has this bug would just send the logserver log and a DXDiag file and we would end up with enough data to most likely find this minor difference ourselfs and then we could fix the issue.
Additionally we have priorities for our defect which means a minor defect of a feature, which is already on the production list for an overhaul, will be fixed with the overhaul soon(TM).

THANKS, its nice to see that there are players out there who understand how Software Development is working.
Originally by: Damned Force PS: a good game design is a backbone of any quality :) so if the design things are not fixed and the design team is lasy to answer that drops the overall quality and the QA should take care about :)
We can say something is wrong and where it is wrong (which is already done by the players in the case of Game Design suggestions), but the responsible Game Designer has to find a fix for it which is especially with most of the topics in the Game Design Forum not easy and needs a lot of brainz and time (if the responsible Producer gives him time to fix it).
Unfortunately most of the things are looking easy to fix from the outside, but if you add a production plan and multiple departments and and and its quite different in reality.

I can answer that.
It Is The TEST Server.
You do not pay your sub for the test server. You pay for TQ. The test server is not guaranteed to be up all hours except for DT every day and CCP never claim it as such. It goes down as and when they need it to for internal testing, hot fix application and so on. And when it is ready for public access again, they put it back up because it is what they do while working. And no amount of information on why it is down would change the fact that it is down anyway.
If you want to keep track of it being up and down, use one of several regularly posted server status pages that can also be found by entering some basic queries into google.

so, what about the test server? I've filled a few, so what? most of them got filtered or otherwise put aside, one got fixed after a couple of years (drone related) and I can't connect to the test server most of the times I've tried, let alone armageddon day and such. I know that access to the test server is a priviledge not a right, but my time is worth a lot, so that goes both ways.
I'm not going into a heated discussion with the devs/gms I'm just saying that I don't know if I'm doing something wrong, that I can't connect or the server is down. The lack of information from ccp regarding the test server (patch notes, etc.) is making everybody lazy. You don't love your test server enough to expect us to love it.
anyways, just tell us if the problem is on our side and what we can do to try to fix it and connect.

If your time is worth a lot, why not just play the game instead of wasting time testing things?...anyway...Sometimes SiSi is down a few hours, in rare cases it may be down a few days. Most of the times I tried (besides armageddon day^^), it was up and running. It has been online this week for sure. I was there, changing a skill...

You must be doing something wrong. Others have no problems connecting.

It's a testserver. It's a snapshot of some revision of the codebase they think to be stable enough for players to tryout. It is to timeconsuming to list every fix in a human readable format. Deploying updates and maintaining the infrastructure is enough love for something they give us as a "preview" of what to come.
Maybe CCP can arrange "my bugreports" section to reflect if the filed bug has been only "attached to a defect" or "fixed in latest branch". But in the end this wouldn't matter much. If a bug is filed and attached in BTS, I assume it will get fixed soon[tm].

Problem must be on your side. Check your shortcut, reinstall your SiSi version or use a network traffic analyzer to find out where packets get lost if necessary.

PS. this is my main :p
There are 5 different possibilities: 1. you start eve and can connect 2. you start eve and it says version incompatible but is starting an automated updated when you try to log in. 3. you start eve and it says version incompatible and no automated updating runs = there is no patch for the version you are running > new copy of TQ install and testserver patch 4. you start eve and its says not accepting connections = a internal test is running and only VIPs can log in 5. you start eve and it cant connect to the server = sisi is down
That's it, eve even tells you why it doesn't work.

... so you don't want to change anything because you don't want to convince me that something is wrong by not starting a discussion but after wards you tell me that you don't like the lack of information ...
To the patch notes the patch notes for TQ get released when the changes are already applied to SISI ... so the patch notes are fine ... what do you want?
(yes there are no "in Testing" patch notes which is kind of sad but do you want us to create patch notes or to find and solve issues? Patch notes for a normal patch need around one working day to get written down and patch notes for a major patch even more.)
and yes I love the test server even if I don't have a lot of time to spend on it and additionally if I fly into a battleground on FD- everybody is switching target and shooting at me , but yes I love the testserver. __________________________ CCP Sputnik CCP Quality Assurance QA Engineering Software Engineer

I get incompatible version, but no auto-update, and I got it right after auto-updating. I'm still in version 5.10.57913 although the auto-updater intended to upgrade it. TQ is running 5.10.58188 so I could copy from TQ or reinstall altogether (and might just do that). Manually patching isn't possible, since on the site it reports the test server as running version 0 (it even links to a patch http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/eveclassicpatch58188-0_test.exe and http://ccp.vo.llnwd.net/o2/test/evepremiumpatch58188-0_test.exe)
all this is on two different machines, one with xp/nvidia the other vista/ati and two different types of connection, adsl and adsm (different providers). I'm sure it's something silly I did and intend on fixing it.
ANYWAY, this is in no way personal I'm just another guy, my main protest is that this started as a "what's with the test server" into a completely different thing, maybe because ccp knows there's nothing wrong with the test server, but before letting the rest of us know (those with the question in mind) went into a "if you don't like it, can I have your stuff" topic. So, no you can't have my stuff.
But please, have a feature that show the status of the server (then this thread wouldn't have started) and when trying to connect to the server show the expected version. I think I remember this feature existing a while back. This includes TQ and SiSi (tq usually has a message of the day stating when it is down for maintenance, usually). So, reinstalling here I come :p I hope I'll find a 58188-something SiSI patch.
PS. I'll be back to read but I'll refrain from answering since I'm getting bad vibes from the replies and sending vibes also, which I shouldn't be doing, in the first place.

It's amazing that out of all the CCP posts, none of them actually answer the question of WHY it is down. No new patches are being installed, it just seems like the 1 hour downtime turns into 10 hour downtime every single day out of laziness.
If this is not the case, please explain. _________________________________________ A bad analogy is like a leaky screwdriver |
