As I have promised not to continue to derail the Mercenary Thread for Malus Crusis, I'm asking Mitnal and the Gang to not consider this a cross-post. I'm simply opening this thread to answer a conversation I couldn't in the other thread.
Originally by: Tofus It's obvious you're in the ninja business for the thrill, as we've already established there's much more profitable ways to earn your isks. So to stop you from 'doing your job', people would have to stop providing you with the 'thrill' or war and completely ignore you...
There are many reasons to be a Ninja Salvager. Obviously, the thrill is a definite positive. I agree with you on this point, however, it's not the only solution.
Now that we have an active Combat Division, we have engaged some of our Mission Running victims in battle, where some of our expendable frigs would continually loot the Mission until the inevitable point at which we were shot at. Get aggro rights, swap ships, return and blow the Mission Runner up. Salvage the wreck, pickup the loot, and in the end, profit.
Originally by: Tofus ...Or just keep the pressure on for a bit longer. From what i've been seeing on the killboards, you're corp is currently loosing almost a hundred million isks a week (if not more) in damages.
Other than the fact that I take full responsibility for accidentally nuking our KB database last week, after which the EA updates aren't allowing us to automatically update the KB, I'd have to dispute that claim.
I don't deny that we take losses, however, our War Targets are also taking losses as well. (Et tu, Tofus?) At one point, before the death of the KB, our Corp was relatively even with the ISK win/loss ratio with Remedy, Inc., who we respect completely. They've been excellent combatants, and if anyone reading this is looking for a good Merc Crew, you can't go wrong with Remedy.
Originally by: Tofus Sooner or later your new/young recruits are going to realize that they are limiting their personal growth by suffering sustained losses while other pilots of their age are building a solid character. And sooner or later, you will realize that being under multiple wardecs for weeks on end is limiting your growth.
In actual fact, we've found the exact opposite. All of our younger Members have actually been extremely successful in growing, under the expert tutelage of our more Senior Members, and are excelling at their craft.
What's more, is that we're growing exponentially, with almost 60 Members now, and everybody is very excited about our continued growth.
Originally by: Tofus But wardecs isn't your main problem. It's the very thing your corp is currently doing: growing rapidly while your required resources (salvage/loot) remain constant. Your very 'business-model' is flawed. Or do you actually expect to grow into a 100+ member corp/alliance?
Well, I'll tell you. We plan to grow to beyond 100 Members in a very short period of time. The Corp Management have already engaged in discussions about growth, and expansion, and we recognize that Ninja Salvaging isn't the only business model which is successful for us. I'm not going to go into details here, other than to say, we're extremely versatile, and we adapt very, very well.
(But, of course, you've seen that first hand.)
Originally by: Tofus Man, it's gonna be fun seeing dozens of your guys trying to outsmart their own corpmates for the little bits of salvage that's available at systems like Dodixie.
What you fail to realize is that for every Mission Runner we do scan down, there's ten times that amount that our scanners don't show. Even now, with multiple teams in a single system, we're still making ISK, and that's only when we focus on a single system.
...continued...

I appreciate the change of heart, and the (relative) lack of smack and lies that went into your communication. It shows you're maturing.
In the end, we're more than happy to prove you wrong, and we're already making plans for continued growth, and expansion.
I'm confident that we will be successful in the coming months, and if the day comes that I see your application come across my desk...

Shes right about this I have seen several YOINK teams out at once in Dodixie, hell I even talk to some of them, and My corp and I hardely ever run into them while we ninja salvage. Only thing is I have had little luck getting the mission runners to shoot me and we have only evar had one war dec.
Also if My corp wasent a close group of RL friends Id join SN too. The members I have talked to including yourself are quite nice and vary cool.

Edited by: Ovar Doce on 10/07/2008 23:59:13 I am a young recruit and I can honestly say that I am not struggling due to the war decks. In my first few weeks older member would scan down missions and let me do a good bit of slavaging. After 2 nights I started looting wrecks and makign more isk. Thank you Ninjas.
Just last night I undocked from the station and there were red stars flying all around me. Lucky me that I had 2 frigets blown up in weeks prior so I was a littls less twicthy. I picked my scan spot from the places window and warped of. Next thing you know 2 war targets in system went to 6. I let my probe out wapred to another spot and cloaked. Scan was done and the first target I warped to was in a juicy level 4, faction mission I guess. I made about 3 million in salvage plus loot in about 45 minutes and I didn't even have time to hit the 3rd room. That is very good for me, and I look forward to getting better. At some point I hope to start putting holes in the mercs that wait ouside the station for us.
Once agin thank you Tchell for letting me into the ranks 07

I think what yall do is nearly pointless... the thrill of looting someone elses work is about as much thrill as ummm camping a gate in highsec looking to gank a hauler... can be very profitable if you really are willing to put forth the work.
well if thats how you choose to play the game its your 15$ a month not mine.

It's not me you who you should be thanking. I think I should be thanking all of our Members for keeping the Team alive, growing and thriving. There is not one person responsible for Suddenly Ninjas. It's all of us.

Thanks for coming out, Ambrosious!
You might note that looting, camping and highsec ganking is kind of the "In Thing" here in C&P, so I'll assume you've never really done much of that, or have, and may have chosen a safer profession, such as mining (ooh!), industry (ohh!) or even playing the market. (ahh!)
Until Suddenly Ninjas, every Mission Runner complained about being hit by NPC salvagers, or at worst, small Corps which usually disappeared shortly after their first Wardec.
But if what we do isn't your thing, 'yall' can go about and do whatever it is 'yall' do.

Awww he busted on my southern talk. yeah carebears will complain I totally agree and if they really care about the loot and salvage in missions then they deserve to.
I personally live in Lowsec hunting, other hunters or noobs which ever are stupid enough to get caught.
I have no qwalms to your profession in ways of what your doing on an ethical level, I just think its boring... and by your own corpmates example of his earnings, not a way I want to spend my 15$ a month playing eve. I beleive thats why I started my reply with the words "I think." And I have done a fair bit of hualer ganking to be honest, its a means for quick and easy ISK. But my truest passion in Eve since you have asked me is PVP all 22mill SP of it.

Ninja, please.
I had to chime in on this to make another point. I presume that Tofus is referring to the war decs we receive almost on a daily basis? While much of the Suddenly Ninja mantra circles around mission salvaging (or what have you) this is not the main reason why I joined suddenly ninjas.
I am an ex-pirate so to speak and was war deccing on other corps in Empire which looked to be good or reasonable fights. My old corp members were kind of spread out via Wordly timezones so it was difficult to manage organized attacks most of the time. I orginally joined the ninjas with my alt for a few weeks. When I saw with my alt first hand how much action was coming our way, I immediately got my main and my fellow pvp loving pirate brothers into Suddenly Ninjas, or assisting us when/where possible. I'd give a shout out, but a ninja doesn't reveal all his secrets.

Heh, in a way I kind of snuck in before the term developed its current aura of controversy. I joined the game (and formed the corp) before formal salvage existed in the game; I was looting other people's missions for fun back when they were around the stargates and dropped loot in cans because wrecks hadn't been invented yet.
The towing part was trickier; I'm currently dealing vengeance war #9 (yes, NINE) from somebody whose double-parked POS I attempted to impound. ;-)
I'm in no hurry for the alliance thing, having too much fun in factional warfare at the moment learning some basic PvP skills. But a salvage alliance would be the ultimate answer to all those folks who still whine about salvagers in NPC corps -- not that I've ever actually met anybody in an NPC corp who was going after salvage in a serious way. ------------------ Ironfleet.com |

If you were only half as good with numbers as you are with words, I might actually believe you. Problem is: you have simply no numbers to back your words up. People only need to do a minor bit of google'ing to find out your kill/loss ratio is far from what you make it appear to be. Now i'm not saying you're not entitled to some P.R., but don't claim you're proofing me wrong, when the facts simply don't agree with that.
To give a small example:
Quote: I don't deny that we take losses, however, our War Targets are also taking losses as well. (Et tu, Tofus?) At one point, before the death of the KB, our Corp was relatively even with the ISK win/loss ratio with Remedy, Inc., who we respect completely.
http://killboard.the-acquisition.com/?a=cc_detail&ctr_id=1
My 2-member corp made 18 kills vs. 2 losses (one of which was reimbursed as CCP found there was a bug that prevented me from docking in time).
http://remed.griefwatch.net/?p=corp&corp=Suddenly%20Ninjas
Remedy made 34 kills to 4 losses.
Relatively 'even'? I don't think so

Heya Tofus! Just thought I'd pop in and let you know that you kind of missed what Tchell said. He didn't say anything about kill/loss ratio, but ISK kill/loss ratio. We fly around in paper frigates; of course you're going to have a heck of a lot more kills then we do. It's when you look at the ISK values of our conflict that you will see that Tchell is correct on this one.

Remedy made 34 kills to 4 losses.
It's actually 33 kills to 7 losses For some reason I couldn't find these ones on that board you linked:
Wolf Domi Vagabond
And if you add up the ISK value of the kills/losses you, being so good with numbers, will clearly see that we are about equal in ISK value. And I like to think that says something quite positive about our corp members because it sure as heck wasn't easy against Remedy. They're one of the toughest corps we've gone up against and are a very classy bunch of people. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking for a solid merc corp.

Although, i have no problem with you entering missions and salvaging after al it is a free for all, i also dont want to see you turning into another one of those **** corps that go out for the grief of mission runners just to get them to engage you only to swap ships or warp in a blob from corp blah blah, personally i think attacking mission runners is weak as 90% have no idea about pvp.
Stick to your plan, salvage and leave.
No, before you start i am not a mission runner, never done one in my life, im an industrialist who takes time out occasionally to go hunting for the kill.
