Originally by: CCP Casqade I'm sorry for not posting here. But like I said over at the mac forum. It is on its way, sorry for the delay and we are working on it.
How much freaking hilarious is this very phrase now, considering it's the last dev contact with the Linux forum population, until today's mail about Linux support being dropped in Apocrypha?
What was "on its way"? The new official client?
You were really working on it?
I really, really look forward for any answer, and a straight face.
My other comments in this thread seems oh-so-wonderful right about now. I hate myself. --- Kate My corporation is recruiting! |

CCP Casqade's reply was correct at the time it was made.

I know were ****ed people, but please don't blame the Devs/Staff who put themselves out on a lib, trying to get something done for us that management or QA (or whom ever) obviously. They have tried as hard as they can, there probably the only reason any official Linux client was even tried.
I pray to god that wine will continue to work. Or my bloody hell I will look like a fool, and I'll be ****ed. But it still wont be at individuals.

But we SHOULD blame the devs. Who but they could have let us know what was going on? The DEVS expounded on things at Fanfest, and now we find out that the folks aren't even looking at real metrics regarding linux use. shakes head. Of course I blame the devs. You should see how fast the devs shut up on IRC when linux support is/was mentioned. It was like throwing a bucket of icewater over an orgy.
CCP Explorer/Whisper posts and support sends out a mail. We've been asking for information for 7+ months with not a hiccup from CCP, and now we're supposed to just roll over and be nice?
FRACK THAT. CCP's idea of community is about as efficient as Iceland's government at times, and their ability to gather REAL information as to who is playing their game is laughable.
Of course we're angry. We've also been supporting ourselves not for good ol' CCP, but for our selves in the virtual community that we wish to be a part of.
That CCP played this stupid fracked up agreement with Transgaming and Gavriel "cider + cedega = win!" and Vitas Gupta (ceo of TG) boggles the mind. TG was blowing smoke up CCP's ass with their capabilities. CCP is to blame as responsibility falls ultimately to the owner of the I.P.
That we as members of this community are basically told "sorry, you don't exist, cuz our numbers don't show it" is insulting and outrageous, and we have every right to be angry.
Its not a free game. It costs money. every month. But we dont' count because they can't determine if its wine or if its mickeysoft. whatever.

We know exactly how many are using the official client running on top of Cedega, the client which we are retiring. |

Now that the prepackaged Cedega-client is gone: Is there any chance to get official support for Linux+Wine+EVE? |

No, no, please, nooooooooo! (In Luke Skywalker's "Vader is my dad" anguished voice.)
If "official support" is akin to what we got so far, please, please, by everything is holy and sacred, do NOT officially support WINE!!!
I know that a sub-par client like the late official one makes no sense financially, since the alternatives are just better in every respect. Why CCP should throw money on development (co-development, agreements, contracts, whatever) of something nobody really uses nor wants to use?
But look at facts, please.
We in linuxland we've been treated, from a PR/facevalue point of view, as an unwanted, second class, red headed step child: SIX months passed without a single word from blue-boxed users in our forum. How it feels when your money is worth less than your peers' money?
Now, I ask you (and devs, if they want to hang around our nice, cozy lounge): how is this different from NOT having official support whatsoever on WINE?
We're geeks, and Linux ones to boot. Not your ordinary Wal-Mart sheep shopper. We ran EVE on linux before official support came, we will continue to do so after official support goes away. We're used to bumpy roads. We run Office and Photoshop under Linux. We go places because we don't stop for a simple sticker that says "sorry, your money is unwanted here". We'd love to give our money to farsighted developers. But if they don't want us, we find ways to work around their shortsightedness.
CCP will be gone and dead (and with Island economic crisis, this may even happen soon!) well before our spirit gives up any technical challenge.
Official support is not what we need. We're our own official support.

Nice try avoiding the POINT. (I'm being harsh here, but come on.) The point is that the official "supported" client was so bad that MOST of us resorted to using a method that didn't suck (to put not too fine a point on it.)
You have admitted elsewhere that you were/are NOT checking for operating system usage and that eve WINE users are being lumped with windows (MS) users, and THAT was the point.
We linux users haven't "gone away", we're STILL HERE.
We've been here BEFORE "official" support, and we're here after march 10th, unless you (ccp) do something completely fracked to the client to render it unusable...which of course is a possibility, but if you are keeping in line with cider/mac then most likely wine+premium will also probably work with minor adjustments post 3-10-09.
My comment was specifically related to YOUR statements which seemingly disparage linux use because we're not using YOUR "linux" client, which is incorrect. We are using YOUR client via a method that you aren't getting metrics for. (by your own statements.)
Sad that we see you guys in this section of the forums talking to us NOW instead of six-eight months ago when we may have been able to give good feedback.
Unforunately, my other thread in this section predicting what you as a company have just done was pretty spot on the money.
Although saddened that this attempt at inclusion didn't work, I'm GLAD you're retiring the linux "official" client as it was, by your own devs admission at fanfest......."junk".
Now if you can just keep our linux section of the forums awake so that we can help each other here, you will have gratitude as well as a section of hardcore types that really appreciates the VR world that has continued to evolve. We're glad to be here, and hope that CCP devs will at least keep a watchful eye on this section so that we can provide feedback and assistance to keep our "subs" alive and playing.

Don't go that way again, it's worse. Just say "sorry guys, we can't support linux client anymore blablabla" and there will be happy days again.

The point is that we are retiring the official client that runs on top of Cedega. I am simply being very precise and emphasising the main point of CCP Whisper's e-mail that was sent to the players that used that particular client.
