The launcher links seem to be pretty broken, at least for me. The Escalation April 24th, 2012 link goes here:

Lars Erlkonig wrote:Not really a 'issue' per say, but something I find annoying. When I open a second client, the splash screen always shows up on top of my current open eve screen, blocking the view of whatever I am doing in game. I used to let the second client open in the background so I could log in the details when I had a free moment to do so, as multiple clients tends to make my laptop run a bit hot. Now I have to anticipate how many clients to open and have them waiting in the background, heating up the PC, in case I want to use them without losing visuals on the game during the splash screen loadup. I've just submitted code to change the way the splash screen works. It now appears over the Launcher wherever the Launcher is, so you can drag it to another screen and it will appear there.
I'm still working on the layering of where it appears though, so for now it will still go to the top of the window layer. Software Engineer, Core Infrastructure, Team Special Circumstances |

I asked that question when I filed my petition, and got the standard answer that skill points are never reimbursed, "except in very specific circumstances." They also blamed it on the client/router/network, and claimed that only 3% of the user base is affected by launcher problems. Not sure I buy that, given the number of people reporting issues. |

3 Problems with the launcher:
1) It takes a very long time between hitting the play button, and eve actually starting (generally with no indication that it is still trying to do so, which means that I often end up with 2 instances running and then have to kill the other) 2) When I exit out of eve, sometimes it starts a new instance of eve 3) The launcher does not go away when you hit play |

Would it be possible to add an indicator to the launcher itself that tells the user how many clients are launched or in the process of launching? For me, the biggest issue is the long delay between clicking the Launch button and the appearance of the splash screen. Even an indicator that the Launch button has been pressed (and how many times) would be helpful.
I like the launcher, and the new patching process. Only real nitpick I have is that client-side patches are not integrated into the launcher. |

I had that error message launcher crash bug today too, it appeared after my computer froze from EVE crashing (first time it's frozen since I built it). It was broken for a while, but then I fixed it by removing the "launcher" folder from my CCP folder and running repair tool. Found this fix somewhere else on the internet. |

Could you elaborate on the "error message launcher crash bug" that you're referring to? It would also be great to get my hands on that directory, so if you've got it in your Recycle Bin is there a chance you could throw it into a .zip file and throw it on the internet somewhere? As I said before, we're looking into better ways to inform the user. Additionally, the client-side patches that are offered at login, will be migrating over to the Launcher too since there's no reason to have them in the client still. Glad to hear the thing about the client side patches! Is that happening today (with Escalation) or is it "in the pipeline" (i.e. to be deployed at some time in the future)? |

so today while patching my 6 clients, i thought ill try this export/import function
why does the launcher not do a check to see if a patch is in the ' to be imported' list. as it starts to down load and then it restarts patching after you import it.
before this, when the 2nd 3rd etc etc client was patched it would find the saved patch data with no extra steps.

Annnnnd once again on big patch files the launcher just stops downloading them at the same point over and over, and then refuses to restart downloading.
So once again I'm forced to wait for someone from my corp to come online, download the patch, export the patch, upload the patch and post the URL for me because CCP REFUSE to admit the launcher could fail and allow people to to manually download the patch file to import themselves.
The only NONE corp mate I'd download the patch file from would be Chribba because I trust him not to fill it with a trojan virus. |

I am now having problems with the launcher that i have never experienced before. As it tries to download/install the patch a message comes up after a while where it says "An error occurred while applying the patch, the launcher will now try to apply the patch safely with raised privilages. OK CANCEL
When pressing OK a small window appears with the text Applying Patch and then after a second or two it a new message comes up which says "Unable to apply patch. It is recomended that you restart your computer and then run the EVE Online launcher again."
I have restarted my computer twice without much sucess. Please tell me what to do to fix this, i need to check on my market orders. |

I have the same problem, I have run the repair tool twice already. I now have deleted the downloaded patch file by hand in the eve folder and is running the repair tool again. It ran for about an hour. It seems to reset the client back to before the the last patch was started. The launcher is patched again. It started the patching again in the Launcher. Guess what, the patching is corrupt again. another hour wasted.
I must say I only had a couple of patches done successfully by the new launcher. It generally takes me 2 days of struggeling in the evenings to get eve running after a new patch. I found it a lot easier to do patching manually as I never encountered a problem downloading the patch and running it. That way of patching was removed for no real good reason.
I do not know how to react to the problem. It seems CCP is making no progress with this, I cant play for days on end because I cant patch. I finally get the client working, new patch is out.

I have had only one issue with the new launcher, and it's an odd one.
Twice now (as the launcher has only patched itself twice so far), when the launcher downloaded a patch for itself, guess what opened up after the patching finished? The EVE Launcher, right? Nope! Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit, which probably wouldn't be so annoying if it didn't take over a minute to get to a point where you can quit the game properly (IE without using CAD). I'm sure this is just an issue of filenames and directories, (since I highly doubt CCP is in any kind of partnership with EA), but it's still quite annoying, not to mention silly. (Note: There is a Launcher.exe in the NFS Hot Pursuit directory, @: C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\NFS Hot Pursuit\Launcher.exe) |

Hello,
I'd like to give a little feedback on how the new launcher experience works for me.
First of all, I have some internet issues, which means a general low bandwidth with occasional connection stalls when more than one connection tries to transmit data concurrently.
That's not so bad for actually playing EVE: I can go whole evenings without problems, and the client itself is streamlined so well now that very little data is actually exchanged even in laggy situations - I've helped kill Incursion motherships.
The launcher however, let me tell you how that works for me:
1) New launcher version appears. Small update window. Takes a few minutes to attempt to download new launcher version. Hangs. Starts over from 0%. Three attempts and the better part of an hour later:
2) Launcher downloads more launcher updates in a bigger window, with progress bar. Fortunately, it seems to know of "ftp reget" so that's only half as painful as 1). Success!
3) Launcher launches, detects new version, starts 4 downloads at once. Instant halt. I found the setting to configure it to use only one connection at the same time. Works better, but every once in a while the player count is updated creating a second connection. About once per hour that stalls the whole process. Fortunately, it knows of "ftp reget", too. Takes manual intervention every once in a while to restart, and won't run through the night on its own.
4) Next day I discover a new patch has been created. Launcher scraps whole download so far and starts a new one to update to the new patch directly.
5) The repair tool failed to start either from launcher or directly opened in Explorer.
6) Unfortunately, I'm not going to be able to install EVE on a friend or work computer just to run the launcher there to export successive patch sets.
It's been like this for the last few patches and I'm getting a little annoyed.
In the end, I found it easiest to do a full client download in at least one case, because, you know, I can set a RELIABLE download client to chug along on its own for a night or weekend, or from work - even with bandwidth limitations so it doesn't much bother other internet uses.
Now, since the launcher is able to export and import patches, would it be kindly possible to provide those exports directly somewhere so I can download them say from the old patches download page that's still being referenced from the Evelopedia?
http://community.eveonline.com/patches/patches.asp
Also, Step 1) and Step 2) are highly annoying considering the launcher is being hailed as the tool the get RID of problems like downloads restarting from 0% when they fail half way through.
Thank you for listening.

Smagd wrote:Hello,
...problems with patching in launcher...
Thank you for listening.
There's a separate thread that's been used recently where they've listed the patches for manual downloads (just like they used to do before the launcher, I found it convenient to do that way on more than one occasion in the past)
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&t=92005&find=unread
It's been updated when the new patches came out recently.
Whether or not they continue to do this in the future remains to be seen but I, for one, would like to see the old link come back for the manual download section as a first stop option for those who have difficulty with the launcher.
sort of edit : Hmmm... just checked the link and while it doesn't give the patch.exe downloads (as it did for the main Escalation patch a few daysa go) it does give the .zip files to patch that way. |

Is this launcher the fix for lag? Deny most of the population access to the game?
Tried one of the tips on here and at first the launcher appeared (at last) but then started downloading the entire game...
If I had the audacity to release something that doesn't work, I would be firedGǪ
I hope this launcher gets sorted out soon, its taking more time to get into eve then I have to play it.. |

I am continuing to have issues with my launcher software.
But I have a feeling I am starting to understand why the issue is happening.
On ALL workstations I have the software installed in an NON-DEFAULT configuration, the launcher refuses to work.
As long as I have it installed in the DEFAULT location it works every time.
Please have your launcher team look into this, as this might be the cause of a lot of your issues, as it is coded in a certain way that only works with the default configuration.
For those who are down like I am here is what I have done to get around the issues.
Go into the CCP\EVE and run repair.exe it will patch the eve client to the newest version Go into CCP\EVE\Bin and run exefile.exe and the main login window will kick in without going to the launcher.
Should at least get you active.
If you are interested in trying to update the launcher window manually (as I have found this "can" work from time to time)
Go into CCP\EVE\launcher\cache and run updater.exe it should patch the launcher window to the newest version and "possibly" open correctly upon completion.
Hope this helps the ones that are stuck, and gives ammo to the launcher team to get things functioning again. |

Can you elaborate on your "non-default" configuration some more. I don't use the default configuration myself; I have a symlink to a different drive (d:\ for example) bound under c:\builds (being a developer I have many EVE clients) and I've not had an issue with the Launcher and non-default location.
I'd really like the details so I can work out what your issue is
