I have a problem that sounds exactly like what you guys have.
CPU jumps to near 100%, fps goes down (in my case to like 0.5).
Only thing is that in my case it doesn't seem to happen when docking, but generally when I'm running a mission. One moment I'm fine with 40 ships shooting at me and me shooting back, etc. And then all of a sudden CPU jumps to 100% and I can't do anything at all.
I've had to kill my client twice now to avoid losing my ship....
I've never had these problems before (I stopped playing for some 3 months or so), and used to run 2 clients on this exact same setup, in the same level 4 mission, without any problems. (both clients in the same space even..)
This makes Eve pretty much unplayable for me :( I hope someone can figure out wtf is going on. I'm now going to experiment with the sync settings, and hope I can find something there that works.

I've potentially found a fix!
I don't know about the rest of you, but I run EVE in windowed mode. I experienced the bug again today and tried various gfx setting changes in EVE, and setting EVE to fullscreen mode fixed it!
My FPS was 17 in dock, and CPU usage was at 42% avg. Once I went to fullscreen my FPS went to 66 and my CPU usage dropped down to the usual 2%. Seems like it's something relating to that specific setting for me - hopefully this fixes it for others too.
BTW - after flipping to fullscreen I went back to windowed mode and the bug was still "fixed". So, if you get this problem, flip to fullscreen and then out again and it should be OK - no more need to restart EVE.

Nah didn't work for me and i run fullscreen mode, also tried forcing vsync off in nvidia settings and got a slight fps boost but if anything that actually increased the lag spikes.
But then i tried disabling Hdr lighting and got a hefty fps boost, now i got around 180 fps in station and no lag so far.
But since i'm no computer wizard what does this mean? Problem with my graphics card? It's a Geforce 7950 Gt.
Was the default hdr setting changed with EA? Since i don't remember changing it and the problem started after EA.

HDR is an advanced graphic setting, and enabling it will make your video card work a lot harder (it makes surfaces appear to be much more "shiny" and the reflections appear more realistic).
Personally I do not use HDR, so not sure if that makes our problems different or not (esp since you mention you run in fullscreen all the time).

After a long break from the game, about a week ago I came back to EVE, finding it to work perfectly, well at least for a couple days then it started to lag up when ever I was in the dock.
The problem only start when I try to sell items,or go in to the market. When doing so the game freezes up for anything between 5-40 seconds at a time ,going back and forth between flickering black screens.
My CPU goes up to about 50% on my Quadcore setup and all other programs and applications on my computer work flawless while the game freezes up, so it dont affect anything except the whole client. The game dont lag anyplace else though, only times I get in to serious lag all the way down to 0 fps [checked the fps and it showed as 0 a couple times ingame fps monitor].
My setup is a AMD Phenom 9500 Quad - Black edition / ATI Radeon 3870hd x2 crossfired / 8GB RAM / Vista Ultimate 64x bit.
Tried to change the hardrive it was installed on, from having it on a fully clean gaming only hardrive which had same result as a usual standard hardrive. Also tried all the tips that has been given across the forums here which, well, quite fairly didnt work. Played around with the settings in the options menu and still nothing seem to work, from cache setings to resolution settings, just wont work..
Anybody got any idea as of what might be causing these problems, seeming alot of people are having em at the moment, bugs from a patch, maby?

I get the same thing, only worse. I can get lagged in battles or anywhere to the point of getting dropped even by server. And I have several pc's to choose from but doesn't seem to make any difference. This has been a problem for about 2 months now at random. So as for it being last patch or before I would have to bet on ti being specific to this game only and is a cumulative problem due to earlier patch in conjunction with latest patch (due to the fact it got even worse) after last patch. In otherwords I have tried various settings, and all options at my disposal to figure this out but nothing seems to work. Also I might add that it has come to a point that even damage has occured to one of my pc's motherboard and video card.On that pc I run vista on a hp pc, has upgraded 88*** series nvidea card. currently pc is in the shop getting rebuilt and I am now limited to running a laptop and unable to function cept to train.

I get this problem too, had it long before Empyrean Age though, a minute or two after docking my frame rate drops to under 8fps making it very tedious and hard work to do anything in the space station. As soon as I undock my frame rate shoots back up to a normal level, 45-50fps.

This is related to the whiteout bug. Whenever your fps drops or you get whiteout then use the fix in the OP, or you can lock your desktop then when you return it will be fixed. This is a very old bug that doesn't affect enough people to be a priority so just do the lock desktop trick whenever it happens. Every once in a while eve will crash though, so don't do it if you absolutely cannot crash. Wait till you're safe. |

What some people may think they're experiencing is just lag, thus they may just ***** to themselves/others in game and not report anything. The number of people who actually experience problems in the game and report them may also be very low - people may not know what the problem is or how to report it properly, or may not even read the forums.
You can't say that just because only a handfull have reported a problem that it's a small problem. An issue such as this one, which may be tied in with the core graphics systems in the game should be dealt with as if it were a normal graphical engine problem. Some memory leaks may take days to be noticable - doesn't mean they're any less of a problem as a huge memory leak. A leak is a leak, and they should all be fixed regardless of size. It's not the size of the bug that should dictate it's priority, it's WHERE the bug happens in the program that should dictate it's priority. This is coming from a programmer and debugger. |

Similar problem here, I get tremendous lag, almost unplayable, only when docked(any station) browsing the market only!!!(Most noticable when viewing market details for a specific item), All other in-dock functions work flawlessly. Only fix so far is doing a system reboot which seems to work partially so may be only coincidental...have had the prob ever since the last upgrade to Emperyan. I normally play in full-screen mode and have not noticed it as of yet in windowed-mode.

I think same problem here. Although it sounds like some people posting in here are maybe reporting unrelated issues.
For me, once I dock, it slams my computer.
My hunch is that this is not related to graphics because my whole computer is just brought to it's knees. Even as I type this post, my typing is about 1 whole sentence ahead of what the computer has displayed. All apps are starved for CPU time.
For reference, I have windows XP and a 7800-gtx (something like that, but not an 8 series) so it is not a problem related only to vista or 8 series cards.
CCP please do something about this. The posters who said it was with the recent patch are correct. This is not an old bug. I've never had problems like this before the recent patches.

This. I got a new computer (Vista, dual-core processor, 2gb of ram) and theoretically it should blow my previous XP laptop out of the water in terms of performance. Instead it's actually a lot laggier in stations, especially when using the market and viewing market details for items. This is a crushing blow as I'm a trader and live with the market page open. I'm wondering if this is related to Vista, since I ran two accounts today in the same station and only got the lag on my Vista machine.

Just an update to let anyone who's affected by this problem know that the bughunters have officially filtered my bug report for the last time. I can't give them any more information on this bug that I haven't already given them. If anyone else has 100% reproducable steps, please provide them so I can re-open my bug report.

This problem as described is a perfect match for what my laptop does whenever I dock. It happens when I open the market window while docked (having not yet undocked), but also when I dock from space (ie, undock, then dock with a station again, or log in while in space and then dock). The strange part is that I have two machines with EVE Online here, one being my Vista 32-bit business edition laptop with a Core 2 Duo CPU and Nvidia Geforce 8600m videocard (3gb RAM, not sure on the videoram for the 8600m). The other machine is a (much older) AMD X2 6400+ with an Asus nvidia 7950 GT 512mb and 'only' 2gb of ram, running Windows XP 32-bit. Only the laptop is affected, despite being overall the (slightly) faster machine in terms of both GPU and CPU performance.
Whenever the problem occurs, CPU use on the laptop jumps to 100% on the first core and memory use steadily grows until EVE Online reaches about 1.5gb, at which point it stabilises and continues to run at a couple of FPS. Until I undock at which point performance is back to normal. |

This happens because eve doesn't even try to limit the number of fps the station is rendering and makes you computer go all nuts turn off in station rendering or turn on vsyc from an external thing like your nvida control panel since there is no in game option to turn on vsync. |

Incorrect. This problem was never apparent for the past 2 or so years I have been playing eve with vsync off. I have always played games without vsync (used to find gameplay smoother without vsync). I have since turned on vsync for EVE and yet still have this problem, so it is unrelated to vsync being enabled or disabled.

I'd say that the problem has increased its frequency after the last patch... at least in my case O.o
now it is constantly happening...
Do not try and find the signature... that's impossible. Instead only try to realize the truth... There is no signature. |
