Seems like its gettign worce and worce. Over the last 5 days iv been travling and so far iv covered a tad over 215 jumps and visited 75 differnt stations and still not a single lab slot what is wrong with this senerio Im making this post as a ple to the devs to do somthing abought it a few changes that might help is make it so if a lab slot is not used with in the first few hours you loose it. and 2 days after a job finishes that would help emencly and help pervent people from hording slots and maby simply add more slots would be nice maby fix it so you can see if there is any free labs/ factory slots ina station from the map.
Please oh please adress this. it gets realy flustrating hunting for a non existing slot im begining to wonder if there is any.
To the rest of the eve comunity please show your support for more lab slots and beter usage.
If your happy and you know it clap your hands...... and if your not happy and you know it, .....its probaly because i just podded you

It's not that simple. More lab slots = more BPc's.
Admitedly there's an element of luck involved - I have a lab slot on a highway system which I found more-or-less by accident. (Of course, I had 2 lab slots on what is now a highway system but I let them lapse when I found the one a highway system...)

Keep looking, someone will fail to keep thiers loaded and it will expire. I just got one myself 3 days ago.
Now station offices are a bit more tricky cuz it would take the owner not paying the bill for a whole month to let that go free. Spelling corrections welcome, but don't expect me to edit my post. |

If you add the capability to scan the map for free lab slots, the problem will get ten times worse as all the vultures immediately flock to all the bright points of light and snuff them out.
I say, slow down research but allow for collaboration on a single project (which speeds it back up). That way you can influence the time it takes to complete a run of research with more than just better skills.

What about corporations that rely on slots to make money. We are mostly a production corp and we need the slots to keep our BPC trade going. Currently we have to spread it over about 4 regions from our main HQ just to get the job done. |

For example.
This station has 2000 lab slots total, of which 1500 are available. Would you like to rent a slot?
In the place of the old slot list would be a list of the slots you have rented and what (if anything) they are currently working on. This way stations can have many more slots then they do now without having to scroll through a massive list.

I think, the best solution would be to have NO fix number of lab slots at a given station. Rather have the prize increase with each rented slot.
e.g. A station in New Caldari with lab slots. The first person renting a lab slot pays 10k ISK for a week of rent. Then comes John Casualgamer and wants a slot too .. and pays 20k for his slot. As he wants a 2nd slot too, he pays another 30k and can research in his 2 slots for a week now. After more and more people came within the week, the lab slot rental fee kept increasing. A whole 150 people rented a slot their and as John wanted to rent his slots for another week, he realizes that this will cost him about 3 mil ISK for his two slots. He thinks 'That's not worth it just to copy my light FoF Missile blueprints'. He now grabs his BP's and goes somewhere deep into Lonetrek, where less people do their research. As there are only 10 slots rented, he will have to pay just about 200k for his research for another week.
By this, everyone could get a slot when he really wants one. It would give people the chance to research if they are willing to pay the fee.
And to top it, it could be this way with offices too.
Having a slot/office wouldn't be an asset anymore and I think the mayority of the players would welcome such a change (and the NPC corps should too as it will increase their income dramatically *g*).
Another 2 ISK by me

Well, better should be a price system like that for corp offices (but not for offices in that station, rather effect the individual corp that got 200000 offices, ie, 1 for them kost 5k, 1 more cost 10k etc).
For research slots?, well just limit the ammount of slots YOU can rent to your use-multi-lab skills, aswell make 1 slot cheap, 2 slots twice as expensive etc.
most of the research slots, factories and corp offices is just "reserved" and not acctualy used.

as it stands scientist career is nerfed.
I dont see them limiting manufacturing facilities, or asteroid fields!?
Why should bpcs be limited? What needs to happen is making bpcs should cost money such that its not simply you profit based on how much time you got.
currently a reasearcher without a corp and a vast network of people looking for a lab, might as well become a miner...

Another solution would be: 16 corps in station, 48 labs slots, reserve 1 slot per corp that makes 16 reserved and 32 free to all for rent. This way all corps would have at least one lab easily, provided you have at least one office in a station with labs which is not that hard.

Making more labs wont solve the problem as they'll all be rented up in a day. The main problem is that you make make an alt that can use 4 lab slots with only 2 days training.
Increase the skill requirements to be able to use the lab ops skill to Research 5 and Science 5. That way you dont hurt true scientists that have taken the time to learn those skills, while getting rid of easily created alts hogging lab slots.
Of course for this to be effective the skill req changes would have to affect even those who have already got lab ops trained up.
Also lab slots are far too cheap, they should start at 100k each then it will be only be worthwile keeping them if you using them for something constructive.

That does'nt really solve the problem 'cos players still need labs for ME/PE search. Infact, i gaurantee that 80% of the labs used are researching ME/PE to ridiculous levels, just to keep the labs rented.
Altough, i agree something has to be done about bp copies, at the very least the copy time needs to be increased and the max number of licences on equipment bpc needs to be reduced.

I dont think CCP agrees with you Amin. It seems they think that the lab shortage will be lessened by POS. If true it means that the situation will not improve for many months after they realize POSs dont help at all.

Well a limit to researching ME/PE wouldn't be such a bad idea then? After some point the win is so immensely small it shouldn't matter anymore.
Increase prices on labs is a good one aswell. the 1k is simply laughable.

I don't claim to have the answers to the lab slot issue, yes if you keep looking you will eventually find 1 or 2 in scattered locations. We went from 4k players to 10k players in pretty short order and that has contributed to the shortage of offices and labs. I disagree that the bpc trade will be adversly affected by more available slots. They are not used soley for copying. And what if the price did drop a little? Are you afraud of competition? I would just like to find 4 (all I can use) in the station where my office is. I don't sell bpc. I research my expendables and build my own. Maybe a combination of the solutions provided so far.

I actually wouldnt mind getting a few investors togther and a building research centre POS. But afaik they cant be built in empire space - essentially where there needed most.

Neither would I Amin but whether the labs are in POS in empire or POS in 0.0 it will not solve the problem of limited lab space. They doubled the amount of lab space since release and all it did was delay haveing the shortage we presently have.
As you point out it presently easier to make an alt that can use lab space than it is to make one that can fly frigate and use cruise missles.

My Suggestion on how to solve the lab problem:
Make the slots in each station infinite but have only staff/equipment for running 20 slots, so when ppl start using more than 20 slots the research time increases(for all) on top of that should be a price of 50k for one week rent with 10% increase each(for all) when more than 20 slots are rented.
Plus i agree that lab ops should have a lvl5 req.
ps. i think ccp is doing this intentionally, so they wont change much, and the best way to find slots is to search right after downtime(i think thats when the slots unrent, or am i wrong?)

I don't sell BPC's, however I do need lab slots to further my production abilities. Without them I'm knackered.
Why not increase the price per lab slot, increase labs slots, increase lab time (or even better a variable time/price scheme).
Nerfing the BPC or BPO will not solve anything, because they are not the problem. Even if the increasing the lab slots kill the BPC market well its the sellers faults anyway. At the moment the market is already far too saturated.

Here's another idea: I don't know if CCP would be able to do this in their programming but... How about limit the number of total labs a player's account (all their characters) can collectively rent. Say 5 lab slots total per account? This idea along with a 100K price hike on rent would be nice.
Right now I vote for the simplest solution to implement: Make the rent price higher. I would say at least 100K ISK per day. Maybe higher, but that would be a good price to start at and see if that clears up a few of the lab slots.
My thoughts: I do R&D missions in hopes of getting T2 BPs. I've recieved two of them so far. The 1st one I gave to my corp for them to use and profit from, however, my corp disbanded and thus I lost any benifit of giving my corp that T2 BP. I still have one other T2 BP that I earned, and so from now on I would just like to research it myself and then give my corp copies of the researched T2 BPs. However, since I can't find a lab anywhere I can't do that.

I would say 100K a day is far too expensive. Essentially you will be severly hampering small production corporations for the excesses of the larger corps.
Simple fact of the matter is, there are far more players in Eve now than any other time, more players equal more labs. So implement more labs!
Of course, the larger corps will potentially just rent them all, so maybe a corp or player restriction is in order. When player structures come in, then the bigger corps can just build their own labs!
Can't think of anything witty to put here. |

the simplest solution is to adjust the number of labslots in all stations. i don't understand why this isn't the easiest option. it's pretty simple to me. the playerbase has quadrupled in the last 6 months. yet, no additions of any labslots. the solution would be to quadruple the labslots to match the playerbase. even this would still leave us with a shortage. i've been flying around for a week specifically checking for them. not to mention whenever i random into a station that has labs i always check. my corpmates have also been looking. i haven't seen any open lab slots since the EnB emigration... coincidence?
