I remember the last time I dabbled in 0.0, I remember corp chat being alive with chat such as : Damn, my maxed skill min frig almost beat that AF, our 3 cruisers with blah mods owned that command ship, etc (not exact quotes, but you get the idea :P).
Fights used to be decided by factors such as missiles vs. guns, a frig buzzing around a battleship, a certain racial bonus on a certain ship, etc. It very well might have come down to that extra 5% of whatever you got from training a skill to 5 instead of stopping at 4.
A myriad of different factors used to decide a good fight in pvp (talking about mostly small scale here, I have never had the "pleasure" of blob fighting).
Now, instead, it is the sole factor of having or not having a nano ship. Yes, I know there are mods to counter it. That isn't the point. Where it used to be 100 factors that could decide what happened in a fight, now it is only 1.
Never mind the fact that battleships aren't meant to go at 18k m/s, yadda yadda, insert usual nano whines.
It just seems like all the ship mod, ship size, racial bonus, skill training, on and on, has all been thrown out the window and replaced by whether or not you have nanos or their counter equipped.
Surely, this isn't what CCP intended, to have pvp decided solely by one thing? Just one thing?
Even nano fans must agree this is a legit point?

Edited by: Stab Wounds on 13/07/2008 14:32:14 The OP has a point. It's either nano or die. There really isn't anything should be using or training for. They should really put a cap on speed tbh.

... except it isn't, else there would be a lot more nano-kills on all sides.
Quit whining. There are still plenty of factors that decide a fight, many of which I've had the pleasure of being on both sides of. Besides, all of your factors essentially boil down to EFT Online with little regard for actual piloting skill and only moderate tactical skill. At least when chasing nanos around in my plated Thorax I get to do more than hit approach + F1-F8.
(Oh btw a frig buzzing around a battleship? That should never honestly happen, as last time I looked every BS should be able to pack some delicious Warrior IIs. Unless it's a nano'd out inty which can outrun them. Oops!) ---- WTB Armor Nerf Hardener II, 10^100 isk OBO |

before you post nano threads opposing nano ships you must do the following
post the nano ship you tried to kill
what you used to hunt it , how it was fit .
just posting vague rumours and hersay then using it as a basis for an argument in game mechanics is a surefire way to get flamed and not be taken seriously .
because for all we know you could be hunting a pack of vagabonds with a PVE cruise raven and trying to explain why eve is broken because you got owned

Just think, if you're involved in PVP with a prevalence of nano-ships, when was the last time you seriously flown a sub BS blaster/laser ship with any success when you haven't either nanoed it yourself (lol nanoblastership :| ) or encountered a nanoship.
Theres only a couple of ways to fly now if you want to survive a fight. Either fly a big honking capship with RR support, a Fleet ship in a fleet or a nanoship. All other ships are dominated by these or outright useless. Also Falcons :| -----

Never mind that even before the "nano-nerf" it would have been very rare to see something like that, let alone now. Even interceptors going that fast is quite rare.
Quote: Surely, this isn't what CCP intended, to have pvp decided solely by one thing? Just one thing?
Fortunate that this isn't the way it actually is in the game right now then.
The things fast ships are good at are the very things fast ships should be good and it would quite strange, and I would say even immersion breaking, if anything other than fast ships (or cloakers) were good at. And that's solo players or roaming gangs going into hostile areas skirmishing, playing guerilla warfare, picking off targets here and there.
You can't win real fleet battles with them, you can't take territory, you can't hold territory, you can't use them for low-sec piracy at gates, etc. ...
I mean, what do you think roaming gangs should be done in? All battleships?

A ship fitted for high speed. It's named after the nano-fiber module (even though it isn't really the main ingredient in most speed fits). It would be more accurate to say "speed-fitted ships" or "fast ships", but people are weird.

I'm curious when these "good old days" you remember were.
The good old days I remember were awesome because you could singlehandedly jam like 7 or 8 ships in your Scorpion whilst other people killed them in frigates.
Or your gang could just let out like 87 drones from each of your Thoraxes and lag the system so bad that anyone who jumped in popped instantly from the lag and the only action you had to take was to open their container for looting.
The nano issue depends entirely on your point of view.
You may feel that nanos should be taken out because slow ships are unable to deal with them and that is a serious problem.
Others feel that slow pilots being unable to deal with their serious problems are taking it out on nanos.
Nanos are in NO way as overpowered as the other modules which have been nerfed, because unlike the pre-nerfed nano's you can't have a battleship out-racing an interceptor, you can't jam an entire fleet w/ one ship, or run a dual rep, microwarp drive, and all your tackling modules off of the capacitor of a soon to be dead enemy without even having to worry about your own capacitor.
Nanos are NOT an I win button.
There ARE ways to deal with them, and because I like you (not really), I will share with you The Ultimate Secret to Ultimate EvE Uberness.
When someone is whoring a whine-generating module, you need to overdo another whine-generating module to counter it.
Is he nanofied? Nothing 3 sensor damps can't fix. Is he ECMing you? Let out the ECM drones. Then destroy his capacitor when his lock fails.
Then, all of your fights will be draws, with one group unable to lock the other, and the other group unable to actually hold anyone down and kill them. Bringing Peace to the EVE Cluster!
Then the first FC to come on the forums and call the other fleet cowardly carebear no-PVP-skill losers wins!!! ~-~-~-~-~ -[WillChat4ISK]- I can be the handsome Amarr space captain. You can be the helpless Minmatar slave girl. |

Ok...
Speed fitted Ishtar (one of the more common "nano-ships") with maxed skills, republic fleet faction gear, polycarbon rigs and a full set of high grade snakes and other speed implants:
6.9 km/s
Speed fitted Crusader with tech 2 gear, no rigs, no implants and absolutely nothing else helping speed:
7.6 km/s
Crusader fit for speed with the same type of gear, rigs and implants as the Ishtar above:
18.3 km/s
(Edit: Second Crusader speed corrected. Forgot the rigs.)

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
No, seriously, the only nano-ship that comes remotely close to battleship DPS is the Ishtar, and any tard can reduce that DPS quick by killing the drones if you can't hit the Ishtar itself.

Confirming that no one flies anything but nano ships.
Also confirming that Caldari Provisions + Reading the forums gives you a full and accurate picture of what PVP in 0.0 is like.
Personally, I'm going to go refine all of my ships and cry in the corner until I can fly a vagabond. It's just not worth undocking anymore, because these nanos go roughly 314 km/s if I EFT a faction 1000MN microwarpdrive and dev implants onto them. At this speed, my large guns without tracking computers (because they cut into my DPS and Tank, which EFT has shown to be the only important stats on your ship, unless you're nano) can't hit them.

You cant possibly deny that most commonly whined about nano setups are a bit op. Not as ridiculously game breaking as people make them do but still broken.
Their dps aint that good, they dont have that much of tank... But, you need to dedicate a couple of ships in your gang to most basic countering to be able do scare them off. To catch them and kill them you need most recommended nano cures aka Minnie recons. (also nanoed).
Any ship other than a Gall recon with 3 damps is going to sacrifice a lot to fit them. And if you are taking a recon with you, take the right one and kill them.
Still and still, nano HACs are broken. Why? 1 gank or tank set BS running into a 5 man nano gang = dead BS. 1 nano HAC running into a 5 BS gang = nano running away. If you take smaller ships to be able to track and hit nanoes, oh well, they get killed, unless themselves they are recons are HACs (nanoed of course )
Nano setups break the most basic design imperative of EVE, committing to combat. Almost no other viable combat ship can disengage as easly as HAC in case of bad odds. No matter the price, faction fitted non nano HAC or BS will die if under unfavorable odds, its just a matter of time. Old style WCS fitted coward ships were counterable, much more easy than modern HACs (fitting some more scrams in gang, compared to having dedicated E-war or tackling recons), and they still got nerfed hard. Dumping a lot of ISK into ship was never supposed to be "you cant kill me unless I screw up bigtime" mode.

if your ceptor is slower than a vaga you do something really wrong.
It takes HUGE pimpage to get a vaga to 6km/s and I would not bother undocking in an inty doing less. -- Coming to you, Assault Ships fix, by the people saying that the Gallente Recons are fine. |

Not true, because my non-nano Dominix can do all that and better than any "nano HAC"
I call upon members of BoB and AXE, maybe Frontal Impact and others in Delve, who have personally encountered me in hostile engagement to verify my claim.
