one tip.
If you see a few unknown people in local and a frigate or other ship locks you up near a gate. Do not return fire, it may look like an easy kill, but you now you cant jump for a minute while his buddies warp in and gankz0rz j00. ______________________

Please keep the discussion limited to the topic, feel free to add constructive tips as well or answer questions but don't drift too far from the topic. This thread will be moved to the new Citizen forum sooner or later and hopefully it will be easy on the eye for the nubi's

8. Monitor your faction standing closely. If you have a negative standing (-2.0 or more) against any faction you can expect them to attack you on sight.
Well now i'm confused. Some people say that faction stading doesn't matter, only security status does. Now the GM tells me the oposite. I've been doing missions (lvl3, currier)) for 1 month and gain quite some negative faction stadings (Gallente -2.2, etc) but i can travel normal in gallente state. Can some1 explain this crap about faction standings?
GMs are people too, he's wrong about this particular point. Tbh GMs are often wrong. -2 faction rating is not enough for a faction to attack you on sight. It used to be enough but it's been changed since then. I believe it's -5 now. Haven't tested it yet since my Khanid standing is still -3.73, they never shoot at me.

One big rule of thumb for survival when your with someone or solo'ing
ENERGY = LIFE!
Get those skills that make your cap recharge faster and give you a bigger cap. The better these are the longer you can fire your weapons, use your MWD, web someone, shield boost, or armor tank. If your cap can stay recharge longer than your enemies, usually you'll come out ontop.

What a pathetic post. Another pandering attempt at mollifying the evergrowing SimCity crowd. How about a "tips on pirating" or a "tips on avoiding cops and killing people without repercussion?" You never hear any such thing. As the developers and owners of this game, the GMs have a freakin obligation not to focus solely on one segment of the population. Boo. Hiss.

11. No matter how often piracy is nerfed, changed, or adjusted to keep casual players alive, the pirates WILL find a new way to kill you that we don't know about yet, and it will be legal to do so until it is nerfed, changed, or adjusted, at which point the smarter players, err pirates, will find a new way to kill you as per rule #11.

Edited by: Shap Sheegger on 24/05/2004 21:50:58 My 2 cents:
USE INSTABOOKMARKS!
They effectively cut the risk of dying by 99% if you also log-off at the other side of the gate.(The jump-in point.)The only way for you to die to a blockade is if they use deployable warp disruptors. These are expensive and vunerable and don't even fit in most ship cargobays, so don't worry about them, no blockade can stop you!
Instajumps make it so that you don't have to PvP if you dont want to!Call me a carebear but we are not all interested in guns, i just want to haul my zydrine around through 0.0 space without having to die to some pirate in a battleship.
INSTA-Bookmarks are here to stay, face it pirates, the devs hate you.. and they love us 'carebears' they are normal players themselves, they problaly use them themselves so instabookmarks are never going away!
40 jump bookmarking might seem tedious, but i always say One day of bookmarking on an alt in a shuttle, a lifetime of invincibility!

Edited by: Princess Andromeda on 24/05/2004 22:20:22 A member of my corp just had his indy destroyed at a gate in .8 space. The attacking ship was destroyed, but his buddy nearby scooped up the cargo. 30 mil worth.
Shouldn't noobs be warned about this?

yah, but don't travel in indies with big cargo. Use containers to hide the content, less chances to being ganked. Put a little bit of armor to it (200mm) and you'll endur 2-3 cruises :P
Or like first rule, travel in a cruiser. I know it doesnt haul much, but if its refined ores, its safer. --------------------------

Read the forums, and ask the more expirienced players WHO'S WHO. Knowing who these people are in local with you can save you as quickly as a safe spot. Show info on the players in question and check their bio, you would be suprised how many pirate corps post this in their description. Also, check their standings with other corps and with concord. If they are part of an alliance, they will usually post this as well.
It won't tell you who to trust, but it may warn you who to avoid.
Also, use your scanner and check what their flying. 5 rats can be bad news. 5 rats in indies are not

Asses the risk you are about to take and face any unfortunate concequenses with a smile on your face. Congratulate your oponent with the kill. Make sure you were prepared for an event like this i.e. insurance, updated clone. Every ship is designed to blow up once
Remember that there are many more days/weeks/months to come for us addicts in this game.

Something that needs spelling out
There is no such thing as 'safe space'. You can get destroyed in a 1.0 system. Its small consolation thinking "they got theres" as you sit in a pod, or worse wait for the clone to activate.

totally disagree with that 100% eve is about taking risks! if you dont take risks in eve you'll still be mining scord in empire for many years to come. My suggestion is make sure you understand the risk you are taking and do your best to avoid it. E.G getting your first bs then heading up to alliance controled space to join your new corp without fitting warp core stabs or having BM's.......... bad idea.
Deciding you know how to ninja mine because how hard can it be
volounteering to take part in a big battle in your first battleship when you have no idea about pvp (try playing around with your corpmates and alliance mates alot first)
Take the risks, live your eve existance on the edge
walking on the edge and jumping off it are two completely different things though

Edited by: MacLagavulin on 25/05/2004 18:23:26 Hey .. whats this? Why has my first posting in this thread been deleted without any comment? There was no Harressment oder bad language in it and it's a fact that the local chat does'nt show all players in a system. Every player knows this! It's also a fact, that the shown numbers at the map are allways a bit "old". Also the scanner shows people as dangerous without any reason, it's simply buggy. The tipps are o.k., but there's something new players should know about things really work or not!
I wrote it just a few minutes before the second posting and it was there this morning. Come on ... why this kind of censoring?

Tip: stay in secure space...
unless youre intending to join an alliance, theres nothing but death in 0.0 by experienced players who will take delight in killing you, then branding you a *newb and the games not for you etc...*
EI: 'E was right. I was happier then and I had NOTHIN'. We used to live in this tiiiny old house, with greaaaaat big holes in the roof.
GC: House? You were lucky to have a HOUSE! We used to live in one room, all hundred and twenty-six of us, no furniture. Half the floor was missing; we were all huddled together in one corner for fear of FALLING!
TG: You were lucky to have a ROOM! *We* used to have to live in a corridor!
MP: Ohhhh we used to DREAM of livin' in a corridor! Woulda' been a palace to us. We used to live in an old water tank on a rubbish tip. We got woken up every morning by having a load of rotting fish dumped all over us! House!? Hmph.
EI: Well when I say "house" it was only a hole in the ground covered by a piece of tarpaulin, but it was a house to US. "

Normally it should be -2.0 for a 1.0 system, and so on like security status, but it is broken or has been removed.

Most people in EVE (even experienced ones) die because of GREED, LAZINESS and lastly FOOLHARDY INATTENTIVENESS (which could be laziness).
Just one more NPC, Just one more 'roid, I can stuff 50mil isk worth of Mins in this slow ass indy or ALL my BPS at one time. "Ahhh, i'm just jumping from system to system - 30 jumps! How could anyone watch the screen the entire time?" (even though your corp has a few decent war decs against it).... etc..

Yes, share with me all your PvP tips and tricks, so Ill know how to counter them when I meet you in 0.0
But seriously, some PvP advice would be good but probably not in this thread as this seems to be designed to alert newbies of whats going on and how to avoid it. (and, if educating newbies is gonna cut into your PvP habits then you need help...) _________________ [SAK] And Proud Of It! aka Cpt Bogus Is that my torped sig cloaking your base? |
