Because EVERYBODY in EVE does the sensible things all the time. Like running missions for Caldari Navy in Motsu... or flying 1 bil ISK worth of stuff in untanked haulers... or ignoring warnings and getting their mission ship in a lowsec system... or using gyrostabilizers with missile launchers.... should I go on ?

New players doesnt aware wth is Jita, so they generally do any mission they get. That includes doing missions in jita for agents in other systems.
Agents should be removed from jita, other agens shouldnt send people to jita for a mission.

Won't removing missions in Jita just put more missions in the surrounding systems like Motsu and Siala? In all honesty, Jita is better equipped to handle missions than those systems...

Well yes, but people with bil isk haulers will think to themselves its ok, no one will catch me, and funny setups are just people not knowing better.
Who logs in and thinks.. well i'm sure Jita wont lag to badly today i'll just do a cpl missions

Motsu and Jita have their own nodes. Motsu and neighbours mainly have mission-runners, and local hardly ever swells above 300. Jita mainly has people trading, and local goes over 800 all the time.
Every person with half a shred of decency gets out of Motsu, because they KNOW running missions for lesser quality agents in a lag-free area is better in the long run than sticking with the "better" agents in a laghole. Keeping away from Motsu is EASY.
People are ALMOST FORCED to go to Jita because of the network effect : if you want something, you go to Jita, because that's the place you're most likely to find it... and for MOST people, lag going there doesn't matter as long as they can still warp around, dock and buy stuff. Keeping away from Jita is HARDER.

If the REMOVE Jita, after a couple of days, either one of the OTHER hubs will become the dominant hub, or a system close to Jita will. Perimeter, Motsu, Amarr, Hek, Dodixie... do you plan to remove them all too ? Well, we could keep doing that until there's no more systems left, but I doubt it would do anything GOOD at any point in this process.
Jita could work just peachy if it wasn't for all the missions. I mean, come ON, Motsu is a prime mission-lag system, and most of the time it's actually worse than Jita. Can you even imagine how Jita would feel like if all missions there would be banished ? I can bet you'd be able to see local swell to over 2k and stil not lag too badly yet.

I run Missions in Jita all the time as I bounce back and forth between Jita and Sobaseki while I am on my market alt. Lag really isn't that bad for me to be honest, and it gives me something to do while I current investments and watch for people to put up items I have my eye on for extremely low prices.

Jita is also an issue for early players because if they rely on the auto pilot route more times than not it will send them right through jita. Once they know better they can go around it but it certainly doesn't help matters. It would be nice if they could add some systems and push jita over so you only go there if you need the market..otherwise 99% of the time everyone can easily just cruise on by.
May not do much for the performance but you would likely get far fewer petitions and less traffic through an already insanely populated system

Then that could possibly not make Jita a trade hub and all the people would move to a more central location.
Jita is the way it is because of location, location, location. Move it or adding systems will not fix the issues at hand.
I agree with Akita, having missions and all the spawning NPC's can not be assisting in cleaning the lag in Jita.

My understanding is that missions take place in the same constellation as the agent that sets them. It wouldn't surprise me if lots of people killing NPCs in Jita had got the missions from (better) agents in the surrounding systems.
A few agents have already been removed from Jita itself, but there are still lots left over nearby; Jita connects to rather a lot of other solar systems. These should be next on the list. Zzz research towers Direrie NEW: Liekuri

Edited by: Astria Tiphareth on 22/07/2008 14:44:36 It would make a lot more sense for lag if high-sec missions were allocated to quieter high-sec systems rather than always within a certain range. Sure it's nice that my level 4 kill mission is always about 2 away max, but I'd rather get sent 3 and actually stand a chance of shooting something than literally lag to death. ___ My views may not represent those of my corporation or alliance, which is why I never get invited to those diplomatic parties... |

The funny thing is they removes the asteroid belts a year ago (or thereabouts) because "it was causing lag". In Jita ? A 0.9 system ? Sure, if by that you mean stripminer team lag... because there certainly were no NPCs around. Then, they introduced recently the "undock at full speed in random tight angle" in order to remove congestion on undock ramps... but just about there only station where this was actually needed was Jita IV-4 ! So, yeah, they change stuff all over the game world just to alleviate things in one station, but they DON'T change things a little bit (if target system = Jita, randomly select a neighbour instead) in the only system that actually needs change ?

Markets flowrish at road intersections. Moving Jita away and having some other system as a good "intersection" will just make the new system become the new "Jita".
Moving away the mission from Jita will have partialy this effect. People will focus on their system and some traders will make sure to provide stuff in the system with the mission runners. But many will still stay in Jita because of the placement of the system. So moving missions from Jita is a very good sugestion.

As a regular player, yes, ships, modules anr rigs, you can probably find most of the things you need just about anywhere else. But Jita has a lot more of it, and usually at slightly better prices ; and if you want the "rare stuff", or some other specific items, again, Jita is the place to be. Heck, a huge amount of T2 materials pass through Jita before becoming part of ships or modules. Almost half of the daily EVE-wide Dysprosium production changes hands in Jita on a daily basis. And so on and so forth.
So, yeah, as a casual BUYER, you don't really need to go to Jita. As a specialty buyer, or as a rare item seller, you'd better go to Jita if you want to see your stuff move any time soon.

They don't even have to move any agents. They only have to add a single "filter" on mission assignment - if the mission has any objective except "drop-off" in Jita, randomly pick another system in the vicinity instead for that objective.

That presumes that the majoriy of the laaaag is caused by missions. I'm presuming most of the 800 people in Jita aren't mission runners but shoppers. Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong

No. It presumes that people running missions there add to the lag.
All the people standing in the check out aisles at the Jita-Mart surely comprise the majority of the lag. But if you're jam packed at the checkout lanes, you sure as hell don't add anything AT ALL that might slow down getting the shoppers checked out and on their way. That would be a bit daft, wouldn't it?

Originally by: vr0p I bought something in Jita once when I started out, saw the lag, and haven't been back. I've never had a significant problem finding items on market before. What is so special about Jita's market that we'd want to "save" it?
I can't stay away from Jita. The place is like crack to trader like me.

The point I was trying to make is that the game mechanics whether it is the missions or the market creates the problem. The beauty of a game is it can be manipulated in a way the real world can't. Spread the load of missions across the galaxy and do the same for markets. More opportunites for the little guy as an added bonus

The more pressing concern is that "the need for speed" initiative is ignoring (for quite a long time now) what is probably the most lag-generating issue, while making a lot of other not so effective, but much more radical changes.

Surprisingly sad to see so many "Jita lags" threads and so little reactions to what could as well be the easiest and least intrusive way to significantly reduce lag in it...

*sigh* Seriously now, another weekend gone, another set of Jita threads, yet again complete silence.

Intelligent players even realize that there are better agents in lag-free systems ^^
