Anyway, tengu all the way for me. Its just good allround. Tanks pretty much everything, it might not always be the fastest but it definately is one easy going ship to run missions in.

While I do love my Tengu, I do not agree that it's the fastest ship. Against Angels Mach is faster, against Blood and Sansha Nightmare is faster, against Serpentis Kronos/Nightmare is faster. I own all these ships and Tengu is best when I want to blitz, but when I'm looking to kill all rats there are faster ships. |

It's obviously different based on the area that you mission in but if you had a choice, I'd take Nightmare (or Paladin) in Amarr space over Machariel (or Vargur) in Minmatar space myself. Faction ammo is usable to great effect, not necessary to use T2 ammo to push damage projection out to a reasonable level when fighting farther rats, and moving isn't even necessary.
Even with both using faction ammo, the Nightmare outdpses the Mach starting at 25km, and while there are quite a few missions where rats start close to optimal there are also missions where they do not, which means you need to take the time to get to the rats. Barrage is an answer yes, but not only does it do less dps even at maximum, but it only starts outdpsing multifreq at 70km, which does not even matter with the Mach's 77km lock range, and that is easily answered with ultraviolet etc. WIth the dps gap, and the damage projection difference I would think that the Nightmare is strictly superior not only against EM weak but thermal weak rats as well. Due to a lack of kinetic focused ammunition I would also wager that for kinetic rats with a secondary EM or thermal weakness the nightmare is at least on par. That leaves just angels and minmatar as a potential situation for Mach superiority. The damage projection difference is very important, even with an MWD the travel time on a Machariel is not negligible
I've been a proponent of projectile superiority for some time now but taking a hard look at the differences between these systems I think I would recommend flying a Nightmare anywhere outside of Minmatar space, and even then it's not that big of a deal to either decline a few angels missions or even just do them with a laser platform, the dps is so high. |

Yeah obviously, I would never run something like this, I was merely implying that 10billion on a domi just to tank a room is a ridiculous amount, if you really wanted to you can do it in a Draek. I would never do something like this, it's straight up ******** as you want as much deeps and as little tank. |

Disagree.
Big clunky ship, slow as fuzz, and getting jammed in caldari space with that thing happens way too often to my tastes.

Yeah well you could outfit a tengu for less than a billion and get enough tank because the speed tank would just make the battleship dps lulzy, but the dps will never remain that high for long because you're normally killing stuff, tanking whole rooms is just not the way its meant to be. |

I won't say much for the proteus except that it's the best of the T3s for drones. Take from that what you will.
Assault ships, however, definitely do do enough damage to handle L4s. I was able to solo L4s in a drake pulling barely 250 DPS and the ishkur can, with nearly but not quite maximum skills, push 350 or so DPS and the Enyo can push 400. Other assault ships will very and those are with setups that pretty much require that you shield tank the ships, but it's do'able from a DPS perspective.
On the flip side the Nemesis, for example, can lay down 400 DPS (at maximum skills, no relevant implants) at around 110-120km with Inferno Javelin torpedoes and T2 BCSes. Not what one would consider the ideal setup either, but potentially fun if you can keep at that range.
Of course at this point you're probably doing this for fun and mission time isn't a big factor. In that case I'd probably just use several T2 ships. I'd use the stealth bomber to take out the (battle) cruisers and any short-range (read that as machariel) battleships, and until NPC destroyers get buffed them as well, probably use something like an interceptor to take out frigates and spider drones if I'm feeling suicidal or an assault ship if I'm not, and then use an assault ship or the stealth bomber for the remaining battleships.
Of course truth be told if I were doing this stuff for fun I'd just use a deimos or curse. |
