Suicide ganking is getting ridiculous and ruining the game

Spider Silva	Posted - 2008.07.23 20:50:00 - [1] So today i head to amarr in a crow to pick up a few things, i go afk for a few minutes to feed my baby daughter and i come back to my pod sat on a gate in amarr, my crow had zero in the cargo hold but it was fitted with 2 warp speed rigs, i have kill rights on 3 people. What i want to know is why did they kill me if theres nothing in it for them. This needs fixing its become beyond a joke. Flame away but i hope the normal eve players will agree with me on this, CCP needs to fix this ganking trend or the game is going down the pan.

You should see what the Whine threads are doing to this forum. This forum was fun but it's constantly harrassed by whine threads such as yours. Make posts we actually care about. P.S. Lol. C&P's suicide gank someone randomly day is rapidly approaching. Spider Silva	Posted - 2008.07.23 20:54:00 - [5] 2 tech 2 nanofibres and 1 tech 2 inertia stabilizer and 1 1mn mwd tech 2 nothing of any value at all. i wouldnt fly any expensive stuff on a ship i just use for travelling. It was just griefing because i lost about 50 mill if u add up the value of the crow and the 2 warp speed rigs

Nonetheless, I'd accept the loss as penalty for my irresponsibility if someone did decide to destroy me (though I'd still be mad.) I'm not sure why someone would suicide a crow, but their loss probably exceeded your own, which I guess you can take solace in. But this is not an event that warrants removing risk from High Sec. No matter how many times it happens it doesn't warrant it.

Molly Missile	Posted - 2008.07.23 20:58:00 - [12] logging instead of AFK'ing FTW. It could be that they didn't invest a slot in whatever mods look at your cargo. I've read in the crime and punishment forum of pirates who shoot first and search your cargo later. One had a victim who was just a little too quick to volunteer ransom. Pirate shot them just to see what they were carrying that made them volunteer ransom so quickly. So apparently all pirates aren't outfitted to peer into your cargo. I'm not saying they're smart pirates, but either you're part of their learning curve, or blind kills work often enough to be rewarding their behavior. Then again, maybe they just wanted to create some kills on the map to scare away traffic. Hard to read a pirate's mind.

Three guys in rocket kestrels (~200K each with modules) could easily pop you before CONCORD arrives. So even without insurance paid out to the gankers, they would have still made money. CCP hasn't written an Eve Chronicle about that yet but it can't be too far off.

Listen, I respect that you have a baby daughter, and that you have a family and can't be on the screen at every moment. Here is the thing, though. Interceptors, shuttles and industrial ships are commonly used to carry billions in mods, rigs, implants and blueprints on a regular basis. Sometimes, an opportunistic individual will see one of the above idling at a gate, and will execute a suicide gank with whatever they can afford to loose just in case that they ARE one of the people I described above. In this case, they lost a bet. That bet was that you would be carrying enough in your hold to make the kill worthwhile. On the other hand, usually those types of assaults are calculated to at least make a profit over several attempts, so in this case, they made a bet which they lost, but you can assume that they put on the line what they could afford to lose. The question is, however, why didn't you? If you couldn't afford to lose a 50M crow, why AFK it? If you could, then it's business as usual, and you just took an expected business expense, which you can probably absorb in the long run to continue to run your operation at a profit. Eve doesn't have a "I'm feeding my baby please leave me alone" flag, and I, for one, am glad it doesn't. It means that those that can manage their risk come out on top, and those that put all their eggs in one basket, and then leave that basket on the windowsill while they go do whatever get their baskets stolen.
