I know CCP are working on another game now and im worried that this my have an impact on the development of EVE. Im not realy clued up about how long MMOs like this usualy last until the player base dies out. I personal would hope EVE would last at least another 5 years. Just wondering what other people think. fake edit: rereading this post it sounds ******ed but im posting it anyways. ---------------------------------------------

I would like to interject at this point and say that I have a major hard-on for the World of Darkness MMO, especially if I will be able to play a Mage, and especially if the roleplay is up to the quality it generally is in EVE. I don't think the World of Darkness MMO will, by any means, spell the doom of EVE Online. EVE Online is far, far too profitable for CCP for them to just shut it down or let it dangle in favour of World of Darkness. But still. OMG. But that game was much less full of content and size. I think eve's potential is 15 year life span. No game has ever come close to being comparable to the shear size of eve.
J Kunjeh Gallente	Posted - 2008.07.26 03:33:00 - [28] With all that ambulation will bring, and the potential of colonizing planets, going back through the gate to Earth (or conversely, something coming to New Eden from Earth's system), the possibility of planetary warfare, etc., I fully expect that Eve will continue to evolve for a good 15 years or more, and it can stay around a lot longer than that even if it's not constantly being improved. I sure hope so anyway. I know I'll be here that long if it's around.

vanBuskirk Caldari	Posted - 2008.07.26 12:27:00 - [30] I actually rather like the main core mechanic of EVE in space combat, the fact that you give your ship commands rather than twitch gameplay like a 3D shooter. I confess that is because I'm an old fart with slow reflexes, that never had good hand-eye coordination in the first place even when I was 20. I am rather less enamoured of the unrealistic physics - I'm not going to list all the faults, we all already know them. I like even less the heavy bias towards PvP combat. Personally, the fact that after five years it is still difficult to build rather than destroy a big turn-off. For example, why would the empires not want capsuleer corporations to build and develop otherwise unused systems? (There are plenty of systems with loads of belts and no stations.) At the very least, they could tax the income of those stations, quite heavily, and even put a floor on things like docking and factory fees, some of which would go to the empire that the station's territory is in. After all; for example, Kaalakiota Corporation had to build each and every one of their stations and it cost a lot of money and time, and they presumably pay tax to their host governments; why shouldn't capsuleer corporations be able to do the same? In fact, the entire economic system is underdeveloped. A system to be able to make watertight financial contracts (such as loans), with penalties for non-compliance, would be nice! And that's just one example. But it's CCP's game, and they prefer to spend their time making new toys for us to blow up. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent."

Everybody who now gets hooked on starter mmorpg games like WoW and Conan will sooner or later want something different and more mature. None of the other mmorpg games takes the genre anywhere, they are all the same. Wow took the classic mmorpg and made it pretty and easy to understand (like Microsoft did with operating systems and office software), so they attracted lots of customers because of it. Well considering it has been said numerous times I guess it cannot hurt to be said again. It is not the same team working on World of Darkness so that will not be EVEs down fall. I used to think this too until I realized that it wouldn't make any difference because the problem they have is that Python is hamstrung by it's GIL so that the code can't take advantage of additional cores, or other hosts for that matter. So something like VmWare's migration features wouldn't make much difference assuming all nodes are the same.... and there isn't much physical difference between nodes at the CPU Ghz level. Infiniband will make moving between hosts (nodes) quicker as it will help them shunt tons of data quickly. They need 6Ghz Power-6 python running nodes though... plus the infiniband / sol system re-writes meh. whatever.

Z3r0n Federal Defence Union	Posted - 2008.07.27 11:29:00 - [47] My personal hope is that CCP go on with EVE for ever and simply continue to extend the universe... first in space then on stations then on planets with vehicles, troops, buildings that provide resources for planetary and interplanetary economies etc.etc.pp. Basically what we have is a really cool space MMO.. now all CCP has to do is merge it with a over-the-shoulder sort of RPG, merge some sim city and/or civilization in there and mix in some flight simulator, trains simulator etc. in there.
