Theres plenty of ships out there that already make good salvagers, i dont think a specific ship is needed, after all, do RL scrap merchants use specific scrap trucks? no, they just use a truck with a crane 'mod' salvage is just that, scrap. |

No, I'm talking about my cormy with 4 tractors and 4 salvagers turning those useless wrecks into sellable things. Unless there is good loot (something worth more than 500k, or something I can personally use) it stays right were the wreck was salvaged.
Try doing one without picking anything up and jettisoning all the metal scraps. A salvage ship should be speced to salvage not also be a mini hauler and looter.

Now I agree with that. I was just saying that back when I was a carebear that I had to make multiple trips (and metal scraps weren't worth the cargo space then, I don't know if they are now or not).
Heck, I know people that used to fly a frig around salvaging stuff, then fly in with an indy with a tractor and mwd fitted to pick stuff up. Adapt to what you have available, that's part of the fun of Eve.
I'd really like to seen a missile boat destroyer (8 light missile slots, or 8 rockets would HURT). Just for S&G's.

Originally by: Ydyp Ieva Instead of the salvage bay, I would rather use it as a ship bonus just like you have on the mining frigates/cruisers. But even then I would skip it out fully. I haven't encountered salvage that took a load of space (except the scrapmetal which is virtual useless). And salvaging <> looting.
this is the reason you wouldnt really need a "Salvage Bay" if im correct, all salvage atm takes up like 0.1m3 of space, you could carry like 10,000 tritanium bars in a shuttlecraft or something, so you wouldnt need a salvage bay for that
i do agree on the heavy tractor beam idea, though, not with 100km range, more like i would guess of a 50km range would be a bit more realistic since the small tractor beam has only a 20km range

Are there many players that would really train to destroyers V when the only benifit is to salvage (as light dictors are of little value outside nullsec). This is a ship for an alt, and while alts are a fact of life in eve, they shouldn't be catered to
Why do people train skills to level 5? Like interceptors 5, command ships 5, carrier 5, freighter 5. All mentioned skill don't even unlock new ships or modules or are required for other skills. You will always have specialising people. More options are good anyway :)
uh actually those skills do help, if you read the bonus on ships descritptions (lets use the megathron for example) it says something like "Battleship Skill Bonus: 5% increase in Large Hybrid Turret Damage, and 7.5% increase in Large Hybrid Turret Tracking Speed per level"
so if you have battleship to lvl 5, you do like 15% more damage than someone who has it at say lvl 2 (minimum for the megathron) so it does help, especially that 5% since that is quite a bit when related to large weapons

Thank you for the responses, I see now some good points and places where I've gone wrong. I might make changes to the ships to better suit dual purposes, one is salvage but what will the second be...maybe able to fit four or so missiles to better fit the HEAVY Salvager.

Honestly you have a good idea but its slightly misplaced. T2 destroyers should welll... destroy things
what we do need is maybe an ore ship (kinda the industrial becon of light (the ORE corp that is)) that is a dedicated salvager maybe needing advance space command 1-4 and liek salvaging 4-5.
If you could think of one of those up and post a theoretical ship i would love to see it

No, no and no.
Destroyers are meant to be ships for combat, not salvaging. It's an unfortunate course of events that lead to them being used as such.
If at all, there should be a dedicated 'civilian' salvaging vessel like a T2 industrial ship or a mining barge variant.

Sorry for that blank post, view the new ORE variant, the others are scrapped as is the Salvage Bay
