...and your buddies suddenly scream over vent "OMG, UNDOCK! TARGETS JUMPING IN!!!", what happens? Do you just click undock and poof, you're undocked in your ship ready to go? Or do you have to run down a hallway(s), get back to your berth, change clothes, hop in your pod, plug your pod into your ship and *then* undock?
And who gets to watch the Gallente female pod pilots while they're removed from their pods and covered in lube from head to toe?

Edited by: Dirk Magnum on 07/08/2008 20:51:55 Instant undock would be lame and a half. If you want to enjoy ambulation you have to balance it against a corporate need to be at the ready for undocking quickly (as would be the case in war.) So in other words if the FC says stay in the ship fitting screen and don't walk around in the station, then stay in the fitting screen and don't walk around in the station.

The way the devs spoke of it (see the Questions for Eris thread in this forum), they don't want an instant disappearing act. There will be convenient elevators all over the place, so docking is just a quick walk away.
Will that mean you will actually have to walk your character? Or does that mean that if you go LD or undock, your character walks to it by themselves? Will the actual release be anything like what they've discussed? No clue.
So you want security? That's perfectly alright. But you should be willing to trade freedom and profit for that security. |

I seem to remember that either during one of the fanfest presentations that the devs said that in order to leave ambulation, you'd actually have to get to the hangar - no fading out or disappearing. If you logged out in ambulation, your character would just get up and walk to his/her ship. ---------------- Play EVE: Downtime Madness v0.83 (Updated 7/3) |

In order to be drunk in game you must:
1. Purchase the white wolf USB breathalizer. 2. Blow into the breathalizer.
The server will then calculate (after 20 second lag) your blood alcohol IRL then apply the following effects based on intoxication level :
Negative = <tracking loss> Positive = <somthing booster related>

While this thread may have had lulz as its intention, standing or sitting around in station and suddenly having a nearby group of pilots run for the door would add quite a bit of atmosphere.
More than, say, a name disappearing from a guest list while you sit looking at your ship. -

The lights in the bar dim, and a red flashing light and claxon goes off. A voice comes over the speakers, "Outpost under attack all pilots to your stations!" The bar bursts into activity stools topple over as pilots rush to their hangars, corriders fill with pilots grabbing equipment as they run.

Currently when you logoff and then back on, you reappear in your Captain's Quarters. To people around you at the time you disconnect, you will appear to walk to the nearest elevator and get whisked off somewhere.
As for undocking, I think the current design docs have the process as you heading to the nearest elevator and being whisked off elsewhere, and then loading the station environment (in your ship). Personally I'm in favour of the mad-cap-dash-down-the-hall-and-dive-head-first-into-the-goo method of ship boarding, but theres plenty of time sinks in EVE as it is. Although with some of the avatars it is very desirable
You could just act out whichever takes your fancy; go to the nearest elevator, and then the ship, or strut your stuff back to your quarters, and then into your ship.

What I'd really like to see is something akin to the Voltron team assembling.
We'd get told to undock by the FC, and then we'd all rush for our individual elevators, spending 30 seconds whizzing down on a mechanical rope-handlebar, then be dropped into our pod and spend the next 30 seconds being accelerated through a tunnel and then be thrusted into our ships.

I imagine, given the power that us pod-pilots have, we'll be able to petition for a 'pilot's ready room' right next to the dock - perhaps looking out over the docking bay (now that would be fantastic, commenting on various ships that go by). Then we can just dash down quickly
-- These are my personal views and in no way represent the views of Proxenetae Invicti, which maintains a neutral stance stemming from the strong ethics demanded of its work. |

I think your character gets up, walks to a nearby turbolift and you get a screenfade to undocking window, which is probably similar to the current hangar we have now. You can then undock from there as per the usual EVE.

Not that elite if they can't run, are they?

Sounds like this guy.
Why would they be worried about looking unseemly while going to sit naked in a tub of goo?
Somehow I always imagined being in a pod being similar to what happened to Neo after the 'red or blue pill' part of The Matrix. Wires and all. PvE is VERY SERIOUS BUSINESS... |

Sitting in a tub of goo is something you do in private, with or without a friend.
Yet, I must ask... Is there still plans for implementing 囲碁 (the board game 'go') in ambulation? I would love no more than sitting in front of a board, thinking... And taking a languid look at my com-device as it start beeping, a corp ratter is tackled in a belt by some nano-***s.
Slowly rising up, making a mental note of the positions of the black and white stones, then walking to the elevator to get into my Rook. All the while thinking of the next move to make.

Do you just click undock and poof, you're undocked in your ship ready to go? Or do you have to run down a hallway(s), get back to your berth, change clothes, hop in your pod, plug your pod into your ship and *then* undock?

I see it like scrambling fighter jets during a surprise attack... alarms sound off and the pilots run towards the ships to undock and engage. It would teach people to be always ready, even when sitting at the bar (like an air force pilot).

As for undocking, I think the current design docs have the process as you heading to the nearest elevator and being whisked off elsewhere,
In Mimatar stations this equates to climbing in a dumbwaiter and pulling yourself up the lift shaft

Originally by: CCP Atropos Currently when you logoff and then back on, you reappear in your Captain's Quarters.

In Mimatar stations this equates to climbing in a dumbwaiter and pulling yourself up the lift shaft
In Amarr stations it equates to climbing on a Minmatar and making him pull you up the lift shaft. :P

I can see it now. There will be lots of secret tunnels and slides down to the ship bays like in Thunderbirds on Tracey Island.
If we can get the Thunderbirds music as well then it would be awesome.
