Its about the oil. The Russians are doing what the US have been doing for years.
Russia completely devastated the port of Poti on the Black Sea which is a key port for the transport of energy sources from the Caspian Sea.
People get over Iraq already ffs!!!
U.S. gets most of its oil from Venezuela, Canada, and Mexico, refuting the assertion that U.S. is in Iraq just for oil.
Hmmmm..maybe we should invade Canada....?
I blame India and China.

So what was it about? Weapons of mass destruction? UN resolution violations? Israel has the worlds fourth largest nuclear arsenal, illigally, and has been violating UN resolutions for 30 years. So, when are we going to invade Israel to bring peace, democracy and prosperity to the people of Israel and Palestine?
Why don't you get over your oil addiction already? You can't, and venezuela is really a reliable source of oil isn't it? The US and it's temporary allies invade Iraq, a country that has the worlds second largest oil reserve, doesn't want to be occupied and has repelled all occupiers and the first thing they do is rush to the oil ministery while the country burns. Then they have their troops defend oil installations instead of the populace. Oh yeah, it's about removing a hostile regime (that won't sell cheap oil to the US).
And let me guess. Iran is going to be invaded because they're a threat to the region. The fact that there is an armed resistance that has been waiting to liberate Iran for 20 years is beside the point.
Let Faux continue to do your thinking for you and don't do any research into the area and its history. Farjung is my God |

Originally by: Nathanial Victor Shame on Georgia, being the larger they definitely didn't need to escalate this. They wanted this, and this wont be a fight... not as long as South Ossetia stands alone
See what i did there?
Originally by: Nathanial Victor its easy. BOTH sides are to fault. if your going to pick a side in this particular conflict, realize its just as meaningful as picking a favorite sports team and bastardizing their opponents
if you want to nitpick? sure, pick whichever side you think has performed a bit MORE atrocities (not like you'll really know what your talking about)
Well you know... I know s***load more than you do. Not only i studied the history of conflict closely i also know several refuges from Abhasia and spoke with them in person. So why don you go and stfu yourself.
WTF was Russia supposed to do? Georgians started a mass slaughter of civil people close to Russian borders. It's 1500 dead and counting. Russia was saying for years that it will protect those people because the whole international community ignored pleads of those people for 15 years. They are ethnic majority in this region and they want independence (Abhasia) or reunion with North Ossetia which is part of Russia (South Ossetia). WTF Kosovo has right to be independant and those people do not have freedom of choice? Talk about double standards.
It is pure and dirty politics of western countries lobbign their interests in this region. You do not give a **** about democracy or freedom, money is all you need.

Okay then every person in here should be banned for arguing politics or at most the thread locked before it started. Calling my people American war mongers etc etc.. is not worthy of a ban? and myself simply making fun of other people's crazy idiological nay-say is a no no. I say whatever!
Edit: oh yeah I'm American...and I'm making fun of myself and how people view us. Only fueling the fire ( no pun intended) I suppose. But then again I own guns so what do I know!

First, I'd like to say that this is very sad, and frankly a shame for Georgia and Russia alike to allow tension to escalate to full out war.
It's difficult to say who is saying the truth. Most likely both sides manipulate the facts in their favor. Most South Ossetians hold Russian passports. Obviously they were given to them as a political move, but this does not change the fact that they are under threat of Georgian "aggression". By the way according to an article I stumbled upon on Yahoo website, Georgian president confirmed that timing of their attack (opening day of the Olympics) was not a coincidence. There was no further elaboration on the subject.
Whether the separatists or Georgia broke the ceasefire is at this point irrelevant. Georgia did use heavy artillery and armor against a major city knowing that it is populated by Russian citizens. So the question is, what the hell did they expect?
Now Russia is bombing targets all over Georgia. Definitely not something I approve of, but I hope the West does not cross the line in their attempt to interfere. I'd say Georgia gambled and lost. They hoped there would be no full scale response (why who knows), or that they would be backed up by their Western allies which is probably not going to happen. Saakashvili now throws around terms like war when he should be pulling back Georgian forces and pray it would be sufficient to stop hostilities.

Yes, Georgia has declared war on Russia: Linkage.
We'll see what the rest of Europe or the US does. If anything. Personally I think they wont do anything, and Russia will pull back their troops when they feel they have gotten sufficient revenge.

And sadly this is most likely true. Such is the nature of super powers. I become more and more affirmed anarchist every little war at a time. At some point we will have to learn to take care of ourselves, think for ourselves, assume responsibility for our actions and overthrow the government parasite.

The Georgian parliament has meanwhile approved a presidential decree declaring a state of war for 15 days linked And meanwhile ofc Georgia says they're willing to obey a cease fire IN CASE russia withdrawn their troops
Russia blames Israel and the US for arming Georgia.

... and I see that you also live in Estonia(? war statue = pronkss)dur)
imho the origins of the conflict are similar to those in Estonia.
Imho, you don't know anything. There was no huge "Conflict" in Estonia, it was all blown up by media.
What happened in estonia: War statue gets moved because people are getting drunk, spitting etc on it every friday, and it was considered disrespectful by the Estonian government Russia blows it up into a huge ass thing about "they don't respect our dead, so they move them out". After that, there are petitions and other crap started by some Russian extremist groups in Estonia. They gather up as many dumb ass 15-19 year old russian teenagers as they can, and do vandalism. Russia imposes mild economic sanctions, which last for less than half a year, end of story. The war statue was not about an armed conflict, it was about dumb people needing to vent their "rage" which was "inspired" by some leaders of extremist movements. Those leaders are now sitting in jail fyi. And all the people on camera, who did vandalism, too.
This conflict bears completely 0 resemblance to anything about the war statue. Also, besides me being 3/4 russian, I am also 1/4 Estonian. I live in a city, where there is about 15% Russian population, 80% estonian, I have gone to an Estonian school, university, I know Estonian far better than Russian and the strong majority of my friends are Estonian.
So where does it put me? In a pretty neutral viewpoint. Unlike you.
Fact is, in this conflict, Georgia attacked a civilian town with peacekeepers. They were the direct provokers of the aggression. Twist it any way you like. It also reminds me of Kosovo, as someone else said... double standards ftw.

Can you stop contradicting yourself? You did not fix anything.
Neither did you answer my question... I'll ask it again... How is russia your enemy?
Hell, China or India are more your "enemy" than Russia, because shit gets outsourced. Or does your brain work like this?
if (country != US) { enemy = true }
how is that contradicting myself? wtf is the flaming for?
and no, im not going to be politically correct like you, im not saying our countries are at war, but they have been one of our long time enemies for the last 50 freaking years, and im almost certain they wouldnt help us if our country were in need, they contradict us at every turn in the UN, they supply Iran with tons of weapons, like planes, tanks, ect they help them build their nuclear reactors, which "could possibly" be used (hate being politicall correct) to make nuclear arms, and/or dirty nuclear weapons, that im sure iran would have little problem to use on its enemies which does include the US, and is probably one of its main targets, next to israel
you dont have to be at war to have "enemies" otherwise that would mean that the US has only one enemy right now, and that would be terrorists
so according to your defintion, and if your brain works like this
US at war = our only enemies; (Terrorists only) US not at war = our best friends
hey all americans, guess what? american has NO enemies in this world besides extremist terrorists, lets celebrate because according to Ryysa, Iran doesnt hate us, nor does North Korea, or Russia, or China
and go learn some english before you start flaming me for fixing a typo

Russia = makes me cry
Because nearly all of osetians have russian citizenship. Because osetians wanted it. Because Georgia doesn't respect S Osetia's desire of independence. Since 90's. Nearly 20 years.
It reminds me of Kosovo and Chechnya. But it doesn't matter, Georgia is provoker and agressor, that is. And talking about who did what years ago kilometers away from Tskhenvali is dumb.
I want only peace. Best solution would be to send third-party peacekeeper troops to calm down and drive away from S Osetia armies of both sides.
ps third-party =/= nato
