Yeah, herin lies the difference between you and me: I don't own a "gaming machine." I own a "computer."
Must not be a very good proffesion if 1) it requires you to use a mac 2) doesnt provide enough money to buy a decent computer...

What I don't understand about the Mac craze is simply this:
Very very few pieces of software are written specifically for Macs. As a PC owner, I simply run to the nearest store and buy the latest game, the latest proggie, the latest audio editing tool.. whatever.
As a Mac owner, I have to specifically find only programs that will work on my "computer". If a PC game hasn't been released for Mac yet, then I have to use a window's emulator on my Mac to make the game work... which makes me feel like "Well what the hell do I have this POS for, if I have to emulate window's for half of what I want to do??".
I dunno, I don't particularly hate Macs, they do have their uses, but for the most part (and I do mean the most part) anything a Mac can do a PC was doing first.

OP, thanks for the credit, secondly thanks for posting this in GD, really, as if being treated the way we currently are isn't bad enough, now we have to deal with all the pc smart-hats telling us to buy a key-logging, virus-attracting, malware-absorbing, blue-screen-of-dead box.
I haven't seen a virus in over 12 years on my Mac(s), stopped buying anti-virus junk since 10 years, then a few months ago I install XP under bootcamp and within 10 minutes I have and malware and a virus on XP. And people wonder why I don't double boot into XP? ----
B.O.T.: this will not help, we get a response when they think they are ready. Probably "next weekÖ".

Why use macs? Why use linux? You can't go shopping in the next store to buy games and programs because they don't have them.
Windows users will always win there, but loose everywhere else :)

I am still waiting for all my favourite movies and music to be released on beta max tapes, mini discs and Phillips CDIs and laser disks!!! stop using minimal market less abundant "alternatives" and you can have nice things to.

Why use mac? Why use linux? Because you no longer need to go to the store to get your programs and games.

You do realise that those who want a Linux or OSX client already own PCs, right?
Either way, thanks to all the Windows users for aiding in bumping the thread. We knew you'd care

Why use Linux? Well, most distros being free is a pretty big attraction. The fact that they have a more robust Discretionary Access Control system than Windows, and allows you to create a secure system without all the troubles associated with UAC is another big reason why a lot of people prefer Linux over Windows.
True, Windows can play a lot of games, but it is bloatware (at least until the mythical Windows 7 comes). And for the common user, you can choose between an unsecure but easy to use system, or a secure, but hard to use system.

First.. LMAO Video editing, system on a computer was the Avid on the Macintosh. And most high end research institutes use ether a mac or linux, not windows, and have been for years. And we aren't going to get into the whole GUI thing, Xerox may have been first to develop it but Apple was the first to release it.
