My 2 day old (in EVE) friend just asked me if he should switch races, and this got me thinking: now that you've played EVE and flown the ships you've always wanted to, would you do something differently? Taking into account the old nerfs and the coming nerfs, would you start as a different race? Personally, I'd switch from Gallente to Amarr...Great BCs, T2 cruisers, awesome BS, great capitals.

Minnie to amarr... though I'm already finishing up the last amarr skills, so it wouldn't really bother me anymore. __________________________________________

a year ago ppl used to laugh at ammar. Now ammar is pretty uber, I dare say arguably the best. uber tracking against nanos and after the nerf their tank is really gonna shine. ammar bs are some of the best for fleet ops.

Edited by: NightmareX on 08/08/2008 20:59:37 After the speed and web nerf hit TQ, i would say Minmatar.
They are a hard mode race to skill, but if you skill your character in the right way, and know how to fit your Minmatar ships, they are pretty good, specially the Tempest and Typhoon.

I'd pick Caldari because out of all the races they are by far the most versatile in nearly every class of ship. Plus the Achura race while being horribly ugly skill up faster than anyone else.

I'm not trying to look like a ******, i'm trying to be the only one here with a brain on how to fit a Tempest and a Typhoon for example with setup that simply owns. That MANY here are failing to do.
And by the way, Imperial Academy, those are really good at PVP, they know what PVP is, yeah, i must say you PVP experience is awesome .

CCP gave out 50 Megathron Federate Issue's as a gift to 50 players for helping CCP with the factional warfare test they had on sisi some time back.

I know Tempest's is kinda crap in big fleet fights, but that's not what i'm looking at.

Does it really matter? Unless it's racing to self destruct button, you could be doing better in just about any other ship. __________________________________________

If you know what i have been doing on sisi the last months, then you know what i'm talking about. Because i have tested every battleships on sisi i can use with all types of setups.
And believe me when i say it, as the things are on sisi now, a Tempest with a GOOD close range setup eats a Megathron seriously. Well i'm not saying i do that to all, but those who fit the Megathrons wrong, will die horribly to my Tempest.
Like i'm saying, i really really looking forward to the changes on sisi to hit TQ.

It's funny, I've seen you post about it already.
It's even funnier, that your setup only works against 2 ships. Lasers will have no problem, neither will missiles, the rokh, or any drones. Projectiles will retain their falloff.
You'll have the same, if not MORE luck running around in a scorpion with torps and 3 gallente jammers.
For clarification: 1 v 1 BS fights don't happen. They don't. There's station games, but thats ship vs ship + station. If you're looking to go around soloing in a battleship, using this setup that is only effective against 2 other ships and gets eaten alive by every other one is a bad, bad idea.
This is the giant area where sisi != TQ. __________________________________________

So FFA 1 is 1 vs 1?
And not to talk about how effective a tempest with the same setup as i'm using, only that 1 or 2 neuts are changed out for a large remote rep.
Put 5-6 Tempest's like that into a gang and then go around to find other gangs to fight that are in the same size, and you will see something nice .

There is something called low sec and factional warfare. And guess what, peoples that sre in FW are mostly using ships smaller than battleships, and guess what sbattleship that is extremely good to kill smaller ships than battleships?
BINGO. Yes a Tempest.

Skill minmatar. They are next in line for a nice buff. By the time you get decently skilled in their ships the buff should arrive. If you skill into amarr starting now you will be very skilled at the next nerf bat beating.

Alot. ;-)
At any rate, you have an absolutely valid point: Training Amarr now is asking for a nerf in a year or so.
However, giving someone advice to play Minmatar right now is exceedingly cruel. They're bad at PVE (really, there's no real way to deny this), and require 25-30M SP to make shine in PVP. You can do better.
My primary suggestion is to fly Amarr, and if you're concerned about a nerf, Caldari. After that, Gallente if you must, and then Minmatar if you're a patient gambling man.
My Minnie pretty well has perfect skills for the Tempest and I don't bother undocking one on TQ. Once the speed nerf hits, I expect that I'll be able to take out Megas but probably not Domis or any Amarr or Caldari BS save the Rokh.
Really the big reason that the Tempest is "great" against smaller ships is because they so have for so long had to operate outside of web range. With the web nerf this is no longer true. For an example of what kind of chance the Tempest really has after the speed nerf we have to look no further than the last Alliance Tourney:
It just sat there and died... it's capless weapons and "superior" tracking did absolutely no good at all.

Drakes will beat tempests or ANY battleship on this task anyday, even more after the speed nerf. Tbh any tier 2 battlecruiser is much better than a tempest to get rid of smaller ships.

this is for fighting smaller stuff not fit because of range ;o
Tempest ability to fight smaller stuff is overrated sure it might be better at it than other BS fit for BS-to-BS combat, but if i want to kill mainly smaller stuff i use a BC anyways or a specially setup BS like phoon with cruise and neuts and drones . ___________________________________
