CTDs arnt all that bad lately.. i havnt had one in weeks..
BUT, its far too easy to avoid combat.. IE log off when fighting...
it just really annoys me chasing a ship through 5 systems, then for him to press quit and he just vanishes .... if u sit back and look at it, its just so darn stupid for words.
i would rather lose 20 ships than log off like a girly.

yes it sure is frustrating to try to gank a lone ship, and then he logs off, its also frustrating to send a fleet, and have toyr enemies, run to a safespot or log off, go figure So Say I. Einheriar Ulrich of the Bloodline of Einheriar.

Lanidng 30km away from the other guy after a jump is not that uncommon. He lands at about 15km away from the gate, and you do too. With the gate being several km across (sometimes even 10km) you'll end up between 40km to even landing right on top of him. But a distance of about 25-30km is most likely.
However it could be that 2 consecutive jumps are made so that they never land too close but i doubt it. Much easier to fully randomise it.

Hmm.
I'm still a newb and I haven't been out of 0.8 space yet, but I'll tell you right now that I would never just "log out". Defeats the purpose of the game - there's an element of risk when you go to an unsecure system. That's why I always have weapons with me when I mine (even in a 0.8 system).
The first time I was mining and got jumped by a Guristas, I realized I couldn't take him with the newb cannon the newbie ships come with. So, I warped away, bought a Particle cannon and some ammo and came back. I didn't have a problem after that.
I think that if you're going to venture into uncharted territory, you either come prepared or you don't come at all. Another reason I fly a full weapons load on courier missions, with my mining gear in the cargo hold - you never know when you'll get jumped.
Logging out is dishonorable. There are plenty of workarounds - warp stabilizers, bookmarks, etc. If someone's blockading a jumpgate, you might be screwed, granted. But if you're an intelligent pilot / tactician, you can make it out alive.
If not, there's always insurance.

Not sure about this darth but I think if you log of with one of your characters and log back on fast with another character your ship just disappears instantly as you can not have 2 active characters at same time.
So if someone jumps in while clocked and imediatly logs off his ship appears and trys to warp, you can stop this by scrambling him but if he loggs in another character on his account his ship will disappear instantly, no warp no nothing just disappears.
Stupid system but ya know the devs..not really bright sparks when it comes to stuff like this.

Quite sure they changed that some time back, might be wrong though

Christ Einheriar, keep the "cloaked" smacktalk down. He's talking about people exploiting game poor game mechanics to avoid a fight. Tactically withdrawing forces is not an exploit :/
On topic, I'd like to point out that this does occur frequently. I haven't seen anyone do it in the past few days, but it was real annoying - particularly when they log to save their pods. I have fraps of a rupture getting ganked (we were travelling north and he was about 1 system behind us - we camped and waited for him to jump in - gank city.) He tried to get back to the gate but logged off before getting there after he knew he was going to lose his ship.
Incidentally he logged back in 5 minutes later - of course we were still there to welcome his pod back online.
Christ I hate exploits :/

Nope!
Some days ago, a ship that logged off while it was cloaked at a gate simply was unlockable and undestroyable.
It has been fixed now: ships are lockable and destroyable now. A ship (of a offline player) wont warp if warpscrambled and it wont just disapear, even if the player logs in with his alt character.
Thank the people that used this exploit that you now all have a higher risk to die if you have a CTD near NPCs.

I agree that pirates logging off when large fleets come to kill them is very very carebearish we had several ca mmbers attack a station but if the fight became even ie 2 bs's to there carebear 5, then they would log and hide to come back on later when it was quite, i feeel that there should be the same system as there is for docking, if you have been caught in a act of aggression then there should be a set period of time from which you cannot log off, also i feel safe spots should be easier to find as there impossible at the mo, thus pirate fleets talking smak on local while hiding in a safespot cant hide for ever.

ah diddums, you got robbed of your easy kill.
How many times have I seen utterly dishonourable exploits used by pirates? Sorry, I forgot - it's only an exploit when a non-pirate uses it. ---------------------------------------------- "Violence is the last resort of the incompetent". ---------------------------------------------- |

The amount of people who log out to save their pod is sickening these days. Something needs to be done because its lame !!!
So HMV consider Andy Williams and Dean Martin to be "easy listening" do they? Tell that to my mate Dave, he's been deaf for 20 years.

It`s not those people that are the problem; it`s those people who don`t want their pink paint-work on their bootifull Battleships scratched.......
