My take on titans is they're not only ages away but neither will they ever be in the hands of players (only event people), and it's not the isk that will prevent people from flying them, because they're not going to be sold or produced at all. The reasons are simply just too many...
One reason though, because people think only for their own personal gain, and that is the titan would be a horribly unbalanced ship type... The battleship has for the longest time been the be-all ship, but that's slowly coming to an end when frigates and cruisers are powerful enough to stop one in its tracks. There will or SHOULD not be a be-all ship and a titan would certainly upset that goal, many fold.
Rather we may see some events that involves players in building them. but don't expect to see the blueprint in your factory. Probably we'll have some events just like the Jove one here where we will gather resources (instead of jove parts) and give them to our empires who will then stage an event with titans flying around and perhaps some raiders we have to defend them from. A titan could be very useful in making events seem deep and important. For instance players could change the fate of the titan events by attacking it, etc etc. stuff like that. That's how we will see titans, and not in our hangars.

A Titan would not be a horribly unbalanced ship since it will probably cost near enough its weight in Battleships.
How that balance is achieved is another question either though gun / shields / armour / special abilities (such as carrier and mobile base facilities / jump drives) which would make owning a Titan worth while, rather than just buying 30 BS.

Originally by: Reloaded INC titans have to be made from moons so theirs an idea on how much they will cost, i dought u can buy them with isk it would just be to far fetched.
and 8 miner 2's get real try mre like 20 miner 2's hell what am i talking about something the size of a small moon would just be able to fit a whole asteroid belt inside its cargo hold and refine it with on board refiners and build stuff with onboard factories
if its big enough to shift the gravitational effect of a planet then the share size and requirements of this behemoth would only be attainable buy mining a moon and turning its shell into a titan its self.
the share amount of hi slots would just be mind boggling no ammount of battle ships would be able to stand up to something so powerful
just my impression of a titan anywho no way would it be anything similar to a battle ship, and no way u could buy one
"The construction of a Titan has, in recent years, become an option available to more than just the richest of empires. With the advent of exploration, new resource-rich worlds have been discovered. For the construction of an Amarr corporationĘs newest fleet addition, a lush, tropical moon was decided as a prime source for resource extraction. After decades of aggressive strip-mining, the moon's surface had been mostly torn away. At the cost of tens of thousands of Minmatar slave lives, the Titan was complete, leaving the moon a devastated, tectonically unstable hell."
Nowhere near the size of a moon. But a large piece of equipment no doubt :) Anything the size of a moon, sustaining gravity, and wants to be able to move, i doubt, will ever be able to exist.
From the screenshots i've seen they are the size of stations, and have 8 high, med and lowslots. You can read the full story here.

well i do have those screen shots that show a minmatar titan(think it was TomB flying it),showing up on the chaos server and all the BS pilots that were currently logged on chaos trying to blow it up...
One of the screen shots was especially impressive since it showed a megathron right beside the leviathan, and the ship completely dwarfed the Mega...The size difference could easily be compared to that of a frigate against a current BS... .

Nice sarcasm btw...
Tho just for the hell of it,It wouldn't be possible fill a cargo bay like that in refined minerals in you life time for lack of isk...Even if no expanders were used in the low slots and assuming it can carry 500 000 M3,that's only 500 million units of iso, which an an average price of 60 isk a piece, would mean roughly 30 billion isk...
Or 90 billion with expanders on all 8 lows, and getting that cargo to 1.5 million M3,likely enough to temporarily dry up EVE's isogen supply for several weeks..
Would be 9 trillion isk with megacite selling at 6000 isk and 1.5 million M3 of it in the hold...

You know, that Idea of trading minerals in a titan is the first cost efficient Idea I have ever heard of for a titan actually. 30 billion in the hold worth of mineral on average could be used to move supply around for entire regions at a time. :P Even a 5% profit on a load like that would be truely monstrous. You'd probably be better off buying tritanium for 1 isk and selling it for 1.85 though, since trit is expensive partly due to the diffiuculty of moving it around. Good idea. :)

Price does not balance ships. ever. People are getting richer and richer and ships are not becoming more expensive like they would in the real world (inflation). Eventually everyone will be flying the biggest thing no matter the cost just like everyone and their dog is flying a battleship now, even though we were never meant to. Thus zero balance is achived through costs. And until the overall flow of cash going out will be more or equal to the amount coming in (will probably never happen) then everyone will continue to fly the biggest and most badass thing possible.

Edited by: Koris on 09/06/2004 22:31:40 Titans should be a complete ship, the only thing that should present a threat to it is numbers. It should be able to hold it's own with up to 10 bs's attacking them(depending on skill), it should take nothing short of a organized ambush with the assualting fleet containing many different ships all with roles and goal to take out the Titan..... or another titan =)
As for availablity this is off of CCP's site: "The construction of a Titan has, in recent years, become an option available to more than just the richest of empires."
As someone pointed out above and was ignored. Titans should be availible and maybe cost 1b-2.5b isk, I think that's a fair price for one. As cost will sky rocket to Insure one(you'd be dumb not to), supply it, arm it and etc. Just as the price of a BS doubles with all the latest greatest gear the titan will most likely be the same. And here's a few questions to CCP which I haven't seen answered:
1. Will titans be able to dock ? 2. If titans are not able to dock how do you change modules ? 3. If titans aren't able to dock how will people flying them recieve it, shop and etc ? 4. The way titans are described as a "mobile station" is it possible to have people dock into the titan and or you undock in another ship and it remain secure(not from attack just ownership) ?
Finally to answer the thread, I'd probably be a mobile merchant, depends on the answers to the above questions

I'd actually do something useful with mine, i'd use it to get that bloody Damsel where she wanted to go, so i'd never have to rescue her again.
Then i'd use it to move all my shuttles to one station which i'd then blow up, but to be safe i'd move my shuttles one at a time. Those shuttles are my lifes work.....
I would never take it mining it'd get stuck in the roid belt too easily.
Once i'd done all this, i'd find a nice busy jumpgate and park infront of it so no-one can get close enough to jump, now thats a blockade!!! =============================================

it needs to be something where when someone sees one in game they can say "oh wow, a titan". It needs to be one of those rare items only the richest can aquire. Something that requires 5m SP just to pilot. I want a ship in game I feel like I'd be lucky just to be able to see someone fly.
make it cost alot, make it hard to pilot, of course. but only let lose a limited number of BPCs. Make the ship only buildable in a handful of stations in 0.0 space. Let large corps fight for that station and the ability to build it. 3 month production time in a certain station, whoever owns the station when it's done being built gets the titan. It would be awesome.. a 3 month war with the largest corps/alliances fighting for 3 seperate stations or something. A single alliance could and WOULD lose 100 battleships worth of stuff just to protect the station where the titan is being built.
8 total titan BPCs. 8 different stations where they can be built. One per station. Maybe hold this event once a year.. no insurance for titans, you lose it and it's gone.

if i had one, i would sell it IMMEDIATELY and fly away from that multi-billion isk coffin as fast as possible.
the buyer would then likely do one of two things:
1) the buyer jumps into a system to mine, then realises that there are only 8 miner2 on it just like an apoc which would have been a 100 times cheaper to purchase. he starts mining afk in lowsec with a shield tanking rig, and comes back to his pod hours later since in the meantime every pirate in eve has been hunting for it and exploded it.
2) the buyer jumps into the middle of enemy space to declare his "dominion over the region" and orders the enmey to surrender. then the enemy warps a few battleships over to the titan to start shooting. the titan has 15km target range so he cannot even lock onto the enemy. not to mention that he only has 8 guns, the same firepower as a single battleship- but still useless. buyer begins to beg in local channel for the enemy to stop shooting at him. 20minutes later he is in his pod since the jump drives were unable to charge in time for him to runaway.
in each case i have 10+ billion in my wallet and i am laughing my head off as i watch the fraps movie of the titan exploding on the forums.

You obviously wern't around in beta when titan's were around. Firstly it will take 10 Battleships around the same time to kill a titan as it takes to take down a conq. station. 15km target range? Where, prey tell are you getting your facts?
