Why does school have to be a bad place? Couldnt it be easier to find parking, couldnt the teachers be more interesting,and could there be less homework. Random thoughs as i sit in a college computer class.

I agree with the people above, however I also believe that a school should be a great and wonderous place of learning, not a place you let out a sigh before entering.

Many many years ago my parents said to me that school days were the best days of your life. I scoffed.
Was one of the very few things they were right about, but it took me a long time to realise it. Having said that, money is nice

So did I when I was little... My years in college were the absolute best (so far), and I miss that world something fierce. Never going back though, dropping out and getting a job was right for me.
Luckily I've still got these loans to repay, they're a nice reminder of how utterly productive and well spent all that time was...

The teachers are from another generation... It's like when your a child of 5 years old, you run like everywhere. When your 20, do you still run everywhere, no you walk, whys that? Probably the same with people that are even older but worse...
Also as said they are from a diffrent generation, their jokes, clothes type of humor and lifestyles are all diffrent.
You ever notice when a young teacher starts (well every young teacher I've met anyway) is much more fun to learn from and interesting. Mainly because they understand how the younglings work, they could kid around with their pupils.
About the homework, I went Natrual Science studys in school (math, fysics, computering, chemistry) were all the nerds go. You'd think we would be nerding ourselfs in class and trying to learn as much as possible... *DUUUUH* wrong, we were chatting, laughing, joking about the whole time. Teachers got ****ed. Homeworks is a form of class that suites yourself, you can schedule it whenever you want, take it in peices etc. However in school your constantly distracted by your friends (I was anyway lol). And yes you do get "tasks" to do everyclass that has to be finished and put it. But if you do your task real quick, guess what, you'll have enough time to maybe do your homework in the same class...
In other words, PEOPLE ARE LAZY AND WANT TO HAVE FUN.
About the parking spot, sorry can't help lol.

Enjoy it as long as possible. Go to undergrad and then find some University that will pay you to go to grad school. It works great trust me

I'd have to agree... If i ever have to sit through that physics class again...
So far the professor has taken 1 hour 30 minutes to explain how to do dimensional analysis... I feel like im in 9th grade science again, not college-level physics. And its a 200 level class to boot...

I do miss school. The lessons were so-so but it's just the place in general... thats why I'm doing another set of A levels then going to uni . Unfourtunally I'm going to have to do the A levels on a correspondance course (self study) to get them done when I want but meh, should be worth it in the end.
I do sincerly wish I could spend forever at school (preferably with the same yeargroup) but unfortunally thats never going to happen. I just pray I get into a job with a similar atmosphere.

Its difficult to find a job with the same great atmosphere as in school. Ive had 4 jobs, and only the current one has had a great atmosphere.
My advice is to switch jobs as soon as you know that you are not enjoying what you do. Im looking forward to go to work as it is now.

School isn't great but remember you're setting yourself up for the rest of your entire life. That's forever as far as you're concerned.
So if you don't do well now, you might end up in a job with no money that you hate.
If you do well, you could end up in a job with lots of money. That you hate.
Oh yeah, and get a pension sorted out as soon as you're 18. And pay off your mortgage by the time you're 50.

Creche/preschool was horrible.
Enforced bedtime, all sorts of early childhood diseases every other time I got in it, a bit too young to remember it properly.
Learned to read in last year of preschool, so at least I wasn't getting bored easily, I had books to keep me busy.
Elementary school was fun.
No effort, top grades, a few fights with older kids, made a lot of friends, easy as pie overall.
Handwriting, ungh. I used to write the way you see books printed. Took me a good while to get used to it, seing how I learned how to write like that before I learned how to "properly" handwrite. My handwriting STILL sucks today.
Got into Sci-fi quite early on, I used to DEVOUR books, 3 to 5 weekly, depending on cash on hand. There went all my pocket change and "lunch money" until the end of highschool.
Started developing a habit of getting to sleep really late (1-3 AM) and skipping school the next day... oh boy, did I rake up on "medical leaves" (or whatever those things where you claim you're sick and the doctor gives you a note that you don't have to go to school a couple of days is).
Middle school was interesting.
Plenty of extracurricular competitions, shedloads of new stuff to learn, made even more friends.
Then came the switch from communism to... well, non-communism, and half a year later, Hepatitis B.
Got better quite fast but a lot less playtime, and got really, really fat.
Social life went from hectic to moderate, too lazy to bother getting awesome grades, but still well above average with next to no effort.
Plenty of TV, some Z80 programming (but mostly gaming), even more book-reading, even later hours for sleep time, even more skipping of school.
High-school was... how should I put it... hectic.
Got heavily into physics and maths, winning contest after contest in school, county and country levels.
Got heavily into PC gaming (hooray for Doom, Mortal Kombat, Warcraft 1, Command and Conquer).
Got heavily into Sci-fi clubs too, in 10th grade we organized the national Sci-Fi convention.
Yes, I kid you not, our pathetic high-school club full of teenagers not even eligible to get a driver's licence got government funding, signed up additional sponsors, organized events, shows and lectures, handled housing arrangements for guest speakers and so on... pretty damned hectic times, early post-revolution Romania. Fun as hell, but tiring to a degree you wouldn't believe.
Between the sci-fi convention (excused from school during preparation and event days), my weekly local radio show (don't ask), national physics contest preparations (days off from school again) and medical "too sick for school" notes (read: too damned sleepy), I thing I MIGHT have attended about 200 hours of school in the 10th grade. 11th grade wasn't that far off either.
Last year of highschool things cooled down, at least a bit.
University was... a waste of time. Literally.
Non-mandatory class presence, technical university, student dorm rooms with freshly installed LAN, add in early-days internet access, easy as pie exams (I mean come on, I aced several exams without cheating and without ever attending ANY classes or labs at all) most of the time (alongside the "who the hell thought this is a thing they should teach us" ones that you finally passed on re-re-re-examination by cheating your ass off, because the teacher couldn't care less about the stuff he was teaching anyway)... can you say "recipie for procrastination" ?
First job. Ungh.
Government-owned company. Loads of morons in the leadership chain. Ineptitude and uber-slacking everywhere. Took a couple of hours tops to do the things you were supposed to be doing the entire week if you had half a clue.
****ed off the "local boss" before I got hired, got slapped on with a 375-hour monthly workload going by the "normatives" (I kid you not). Still only took about 100-120 hours to sort out, would have been less if it wouldn't have involved travelling.
School was ok. |

Urgh, I hated secondary school. Least fun of my life. Unpleasant environment, unpleasant people (many of them, anyhow), unpleasant attitudes. Everything pre-secondary school was fun, and everything since has been pretty good too.
Still, might have been influenced by going to an underfunded state-school with a new administration and rapidly declining results. Probably an entirely different time if you live in an area with a good state-school, or can afford private school. And probably a lot worse if you live in an area/country with even worse state-schools (statistically, UK state-schools are head and shoulders better achieving than US ones, for example).

Thanks for all the replies. I actualy have a job, part of why it sucks so much to do all this, at least they are paying for a few of my classes. Yall have also been dead on with the young teacher thing, the only interesting teacher i have is in his 30s, whish the others could at least attempt to be funny.
Oh and i cant acces eve on the college network :(, so no eve during my breaks.
ps. that video was one of the worst things i have ever seen

last year before i get to run of to uni and make stuff explode (well, hopefully not, i want to get into the development of artificial organs/body parts) and the worst part got to be the lack of time to play computer games ^^
Going for top grades in everything is time consuming, who would have known?
But yeah... my first 10 years at school was horrible. 1-7 was spent having a teacher thinking i was the devil himself and should be sent of to a special school, then two and a half year of school -> homework -> ice hockey -> sleep followed by half a year of staying in the bed thanks to physical contact with a "half a body larger than me" defenseman from Belarus
