The network layer will always add some overhead from congestion or weird peering. So will your application layer, although for very different reasons.
That's not to say the servers are innocent and contribute nothing. But it's not very fair to expect nodes with fleet battles to perform like Jita. Jita is a known congestion problem, fleet battles are not. If we could pre-emptively allocate systems to dedicated nodes because we know a fleet battle is about to occur.. well that means your enemy can do the same (as in pre-emptively anticipate your fleet). I'm sure you're not asking for the element of surprise to be removed all together and I'm hoping you're not expecting us to make a dedicated node for all the other 5430 systems. Neither is very practical.
But I guess what we can take from this is that Jita works fine, on Sundays, for you. See what did there? So does that absolve us from complaints about pilots going catatonic upon entering Jita?. Sadly, I think not.
the problem with Jita more often than not is people not knowing what to do during the lenghty session change.
yes, once your there the lag sux, but at least you know its laggy so you get on with your job and leave.
the problem comes at peek hours when people session change in to jita, they end up staring at a black screen for 5 mins + sometimes (the same with logging in in jita), at this point most people quit the application (eve) thinking it to be huge as the client does not give any decent feedback at this point (mainly i assume as its not had the right set of messages back off the server yet).
rest assured that if you sit there and stare at the black screen long enough you will "zone" in to jita.
still though, right now the server are struglling under the load, any fleet fight (even the small ones), are totally unexceptably laggy, (talking say 80 a side in factional warfare),this didnt used to be the case, its actually got MUCH WORSE, causing me for one to quit factional warfare and go back to small gang pew pew.
frankly your system scales upwards just fine, but it scales sideways in a terrible manner, its worse off than most MMO's and really needs looking at when we have 100 + people fighting.
