Anybody know if its a multi-language game, ie. that I can choose which language I want the game to install as?
Originally by: Allisie In a recent interview, a dev mentioned that ships and skills cause lag and will be removed in EVE 2.

Then download it, I don't see anything unethical with you downloading it if you've already pre-ordered the thing

I'm having a real hard time justifying buying the game for myself with the EA three-installs-per-disc scheme.
If there was a way I could pay Maxis premium money directly, I'd even pay double, to get it without three installs only I'd do it in a heartbeat.
But now, I don't know, maybe I'll get the version...

EA wins this round. Granted they've been on a losing streak tbh.
The only 2 games I've bought from EA was Mass Effect (collectors ed. I know there's a future in this game as a collector's item), and Spore (just because its going to be a game-generation-defying game. Look at SimCity for once, and The Sims as well. Will Wright is on the ball. Sad that EA went and swooped em up with that draconian copyprotect) -

I got my copy today too (UK). gameplay.co.uk is awesome like that.
I loved the look on the face of one of my co-workers who ordered it from EA's online store. They paid ú40 I think (-ú5 discount for buying the ú5 creature creator, which cancels out), can't play it until tomorrow, and don't get the physical disk or manual. I paid ú27, +ú1 delivery, +ú5 because I bought the CC too (which still adds up cheaper than them), got it the day before them and got an actual physical copy.
I'm just awesome.

What? How can the space age come so quickly? After all the hype and shameless delays by EA, they could at least have given us a game which takes a while to complete and has some actual depth. DAMN YOU EA!!! __________________________

more like "Damn you Maxis!" since they're the ones who made the game, not EA. EA just shoves it out into the market with their draconian copy-protect.
In any case, I dont see the space age as the end. Will Wright said it himself that the game really opens up by the space age.
Its as if cell, creature, tribal, and civilization were addons to essentially a space-borne god game.
A friend who has the UK copy (sneaky him, he's showing me the box right now on skype, the bastard), assures me that its very sandbox-y, and that his first play-through netted the space age at 13 hours.
His second playthrough, 15 hours in and still at creature phase. Reason: "Cause I want to take my time this time, and I think it'll take me a week till I'm satisfied."
Sounds like Will Wright material to me -

Yeah. Having played it, I'm fairly dissapointed at the length. Each stage only seems to take about an hour to go through. You can't stretch that hour out either. Once you get to the end of the stage, you can kinda wander around, but there's really no point. Your actions in the stage play no major consequence in the next, and parts/upgrades you gather are rendered useless in the next stage

Wikipedia article: Spore (2008 video game)
According to it:
Quote:
PC: Windows XP/Vista 2.0 GHz P4 processor or eq. 512 MB RAM (768 for Vista) 128 MB video card (Pixel Shader 2.0 support) 6 GB HDD Internet connection. (For computers using built-in graphics chipsets: Intel Integrated Chipset 945GM, 2.6 GHz Pentium D CPU, or 1.8 GHz Core 2 Duo, 768 MB RAM)
I say its system requirements are quite "mainstream". A quick test via the Creature Creator (said to be the most CPU-intensive of Spore, because of the creature editor and procedurally-generated animations from the creature coming out the other end) on my PC, a AMD 3400+ with a 8600GT, produces a "middleground" quality-performance outlook.
Only major slowdowns I've noticed is when I had zany legs going in directions not possible by physics. -

It's a warm welcome to the world of modular linear Progress claiming to engage creativity they say... Can someone tell me where the need is to switch from one stage to the next?

There's no real reason you need to progress to the next stage, just there's no reason to stay. By the time you reach the pinnacle of the stage, and prepare to move on to the next, you're so overwhelmingly powerful that only a few creatures can even kill you, and those are so big they're more of a wandering instant death factory. You can wander around collecting parts to make your creature look weird, but other than that, you've already unlocked the most powerful parts by the time you "level" so even that's just an exercise in aesthetics

What a load of shit,
The game gets way boring way fast, even the building your "thing" gets boring.
It does have a few funny things tho but just not enough to keep meh interested, shame I was hoping for a lot more from it.
